2016-2017 ANNUAL REPORT
Welcome to the 2016-17 Dean’s Circle Annual Report! Friends, this year’s report is our Centennial. No, we have not been in existence for 100 years. Rather, this year marked a monumental milestone in our Dean’s Circle membership growth. Yes, folks… we reached 100 Dean’s Circle members! Your gifts demonstrate a lasting legacy of giving back, enriching the experiences of others, and paying it forward. Your generosity is a veritable game-changer. Without your valuable contributions, I firmly believe that the Edwards School of Business would be hindered in its ability to reward student success and enhance educational experiences. Truly, your gifts enable our students to accomplish more than could be otherwise achieved. Thus far, Dean’s Circle members have donated or pledged $1.6 million. Your genuine generosity funds 75 student awards and prizes each year. Moreover, you provide important support for student experiences like the JDC West business case competitions. Because of your monetary contributions, a host of Edwards students traveled to Stuttgart, Germany this past year. Your kindness has permitted Edwards to develop a High School Business Competition Prize to help recruit the next generation of undergraduate talent. You offered vital sponsorship for the creation of a Saskatchewan Business Teachers Association Case Competition. Friends, I could continue… but you get the idea. Dean’s Circle funds support the school’s mission to develop business professionals to build nations. Let me assure you that we earmark every contribution for the primary purpose of enhancing student experience. Thank you to Shelley Brown and Scott McCreath, two Dean’s Circle members who volunteer expertise and guidance on the Dean’s Circle fund approval committee. Thank you to Daphne Taras, former Dean of the Edwards School of Business, for pioneering the path that helped to create the Dean’s Circle fund. And thank you, each and every one of you, for doing the good that you do. Thank you for answering the call and enabling student success. Debbie Macomber, a 20th century American author, wrote: “You can't live a perfect day without doing something for someone who will never be able to repay you.” This is what Dean’s Circle is all about. I am honoured to be considered your friend and fellow Dean’s Circle member! I trust that you will enjoy reading our third annual report.

“It has been another year of growth for the Dean’s Circle which has allowed us to continue to broaden the enhancement of the student experience at the Edwards School. We are taking steps to ensure the continuation of this funding by growing the membership and establishing a reserve that will allow us the flexibility to meet special requests or ensure funding should contributions decline in any particular year. With membership in the Dean’s Circle now at 100, we are confident that enhancement of the student experience will continue to reach new levels.”
“I am one of two Dean’s Circle members responsible for keeping an eye on the use of funds entrusted by you. Also, as a proud alumnus I am happy to report that we have had another record year. There isn’t enough time to tell you how sharing your hard earned treasure has enhanced the Edwards’ student experience. You would be very proud of what your generosity has done to allow students to engage in activities that they could not normally afford. They are grateful! Shelley Brown and I continue our vigilant audit of the use of funds towards the greatest good. Don’t stop contributing as you are making a big difference in student loyalty to the college and in influencing young minds.”
