But we are more than just a portfolio of great high schools and programs.
The most important thing we do is take care of students. A successful high school program is more than just a school. It is how each student is supported - academically, socially and practically. From the first arrival to the last goodbye, our deeply committed and experienced teams guide students through school life, culture, and adjustment.
Our Service Promises guarantee consistent quality and a predictable process across all Educatius programs, so agents and families can trust that every student is in good hands. Download the Service Promises in the agent portal.
The Global Youth Resilience Initiative.
We’re on a mission to support the well-being of all students on our exchange programs.
It’s no secret that youth worldwide are experiencing an increase in mental health challenges. Students on exchange programs often experience culture shock, homesickness and adapting to a new academic environment.
We've partnered with teen mental health specialists to provide proactive support to our students and the adults who support them - their host families, Local Coordinators and natural parents - to build their resilience through training and interactive exercises.

High School in the United Kingdom.
Introduction to the UK
The UK is a country of approximately 68 million people, with an unrivalled popularity. Thanks to its unique cultural traditions, fascinating history and the presence of some of the world’s best educational institutions, it has held its position as one of the world’s top study abroad destinations for many years. The UK truly has something for everyone – from stunning natural scenery, iconic youthful cities such as London, Manchester, Brighton and Edinburgh, and breathtaking architecture and historical sites everywhere you look. British weather is typically cold in autumn and winter, with spring and summer giving way to warmer, sunnier days. The UK is a friendly country with a long tradition of welcoming people from all over the world.
Scotland & England
Educatius UK work across two countries – Scotland and England. Both are unique and have very different experiences to offer potential students. English is spoken across both countries. Despite differences in education systems, academic rigour is a key component to an education in both Scotland and England.
Academic system in England
High School in England starts at age 11 and ends at age 18. School is compulsory until age 18 in England. The first three years of High School form a general education with no exams. This is followed by a two-year exam cycle during which students prepare to sit their GCSE exams (General Certificate of Secondary Eductation). The GCSEs are a set of compulsory qualifications sat by all English students at age 16. Upon completion of the GCSEs, English students have the option of continuing into Year 12 at their high school or moving to a standalone 6th Form College. Regardless of their choice, typically students will then complete a further two years of education in Years 12 and 13. These two years are usually referred to a ‘6th Form’ and conclude in a final set of exams. During 6th Form students can choose between a number of academic pathways including A Levels, the IB, or vocational courses.
Level of Education

A Level / IB Diploma / Career-Focused Diploma – 2nd Year

Secondary School 3rd Year
Secondary School 2nd Year
6th Form in England
Students aged 16+ opting to study in England will always enter Year 12, the first year of 6th Form. The most popular academic pathway in this year is the A Level subjects – A Level stands for ‘Advanced Level’. Typically, students will choose three or four subjects in total. There are no compulsory subjects and students are encouraged to choose subjects that relate to the course they wish to study at university.
An alternative to the A Level pathway is the International Baccalaureate (IB). This is not widely available and is open only to students completing a full two year programme. The IB pathway includes 6 academic subjects (a mix of compulsory and elective) and a core study called ‘Theory of Knowledge’. Although the IB is the equivalent of A Levels, it is widely considered a more challenging academic option due to the breadth of study. Finally, students may consider a vocational / career-focused option. Typically, vocational courses are referred to as ‘BTECs’. This stands for ‘Business and Technology Education Council’ and these are specialist work-related qualfifications. Again, these are equivalent to A level and IB options but offer a very different method of working. Instead of a reliance on end of year examinations, the student’s grade is accumulated throughout the year. For example, they may complete several different pieces of coursework, a presentation, an exam etc. And each of these elements will be worth a set percentage of the final grade. This is a good option for students who prefer more practical, hands-on learning or who tend not to do well in exam conditions.
Regardless of the pathway chosen, at the end of the two-year 6th Form cycle, students will graduate from high school. At this stage, typically at age 18, students are able to start university.

Academic system in Scotland
Much like in England, the first three years of high school in Scotland form a general education made up of many compulsory subjects. Following this, students sit examinations at the end of S4, S5 and S6.
Typically, in S4 students will take 6-8 subjects. In S5, students will usually take 5 subjects. Finally, in S6 students will take between 3 and 5 subjects depending on the level of qualifications they are sitting.
Upon completion of S6, students are able to proceed to university to study at undergraduate level. Students can apply for university with either Highers or Advanced Highers qualifications. To compare these qualifications to those in England, the Higher is typically the equivalent of AS Level (roughly half of an A Level) and the Advanced Higher is the equivalent of A Level.
UK programme types.
Educatius UK provides two main programme types – Classic and Select. These programmes are made up of two distinctly different pools of schools. Educatius UK partner with public and private schools across England and Scotland.
Classic programmes.
UK Classic programmes are available for 4 weeks, 8 weeks, Term and Semester programme lengths. They are open to ETA-eligible students only. It is not possible to guarantee subjects on the Classic programmes.
Classic Exchange
The Classic Exchange programme is very much the traditional High School Immersion experience. Students do not choose their school. Instead, Educatius UK will choose the school placement on the student’s behalf. Placements can be anywhere in the UK, although students do have the option to guarantee a placement in England or Scotland respectively if they wish to narrow down their location.
Classic Plus
On the UK Classic Plus programme students are able to choose their school from the pool of Classic Exchange schools. All Classic Plus schools have a PDF profile that can be accessed via the Agent Portal.
Select Programmes
Select programmes are available for Term, Semester, Academic Year and Multi-Year programme lengths. They are open to all nationalities of student.
All UK Select schools can sponsor the Student Visa (Public) or the Child Student Visa (Private). Therefore, any student wanting to study in the UK for more than 6 months will be required to apply for the Select programme.
Select Day
The Select Day programme in the UK allows students to choose their 6th Form College. They can make their choice based on the specific location, subjects availability, academic goals or the offer of extracurricular clubs or activities such as sports academies. Subject guarantees are more widely available on the Select programme.
All Select schools have a detailed PDF profile available via the Agent Portal.
Select Private Boarding
Educatius UK offers Private Boarding Programmes across England and Scotland. Students are able to choose their preferred Private Boarding School from the Educatius portfolio of school options.
Whilst previously described programmes include host family accommodation, students opting for a Select Private Boarding programme will live in a school boarding residence instead.
Educatius UK partners with an AEGIS Gold accredited Guardianship organisation to ensure that students are thoroughly supported throughout their programme.
High School in Ireland
About Ireland
Ireland is a small country with an impressive reputation. Thanks to its unique cultural traditions, breathtaking scenery and some of the world's best educational institutions, it has held its position as one of the world's top study abroad destinations for many years. Also known as the 'Emerald Isle', Ireland is perhaps most famous for its rolling green hills and pictureperfect landscapes. The weather in Ireland is typically cold in autumn and winter, with spring and summer giving way to more mild and sunny days. Ireland is a safe country where the people are known for being friendly, generous and hospitable.
Main language spoken English.

• Classic Exchange – Ages 12–18
• Select State – Ages 12–18
• Select Private Day – Ages 12–18
• Select Boarding – Ages 12–18
Host Family Information
Host families in Ireland are paid a monthly stipend by Educatius. Host families are from all walks of life and come in different shapes and sizes in all parts of the country. All families are screened prior to being accepted by us and this process includes submitting an online application, undergoing referencing and background checks, an interview with one of our Local Coordinators and a personal visit to their home.
Many of our Irish host families have been hosting with us for several years and they have a proud tradition of welcoming international exchange students into their homes. Host families are not necessarily traditional families with a mother, father, and children. Our hosts can be single women with no children or a family of two parents whose children have already moved out, for example. The majority of our
Irish host families have large homes and therefore may have space to host more than one exchange student at once. When we arrange double placement such as this, we always ensure that the students are of different nationalities so that only English is spoken at home. In some cases there are triple placements.
Outside of major cities like Dublin and Cork there are few urban centres and most students find themselves in rural and small-town environments.
School Information
Schools are traditional with uniform mandatory in almost all schools. Almost half of Irish students attend a single-sex school and these are very common on the Educatius program.
Ireland Education Pathway
Studying in an Irish Secondary school is an exciting and academically challenging experience. The Irish education system may differ from the system of your home country so please find an overview below.
The Irish Secondary School System contains three stages: Junior Cycle, Transition Year (optional), and Senior Cycle
Junior Cycle
The junior cycle is a 3 year programme, culminating in the Junior Certificate Examination. The Junior Certificate examination is sat in all subjects (usually 10 or 11) in early June, directly after the end of the school year.
Exchange students are usually placed in 2nd year, as 3rd year in the Irish school system is heavily focussed on preparation for the Junior Certificate.
Transition Year
Transition Year is an optional one-year school programme that can be taken the year after Junior Certificate in Ireland.
Level of Education
1st (11 years)
2nd (12)
3rd (13) 4th (14–15) 5th (16–17)
6th (17–18) Age
Junior Cycle Yr 1
Junior Cycle Yr 2
Junior Cycle Yr 3
Transition Year
Leaving Cycle Yr 1
Leaving Cycle Yr 2
Irish students may skip Transition Year, and choose to proceed directly to 5th year. This year is designed around allowing students to build life-skills and engage in work experience. Both foreign and local trips are made available to students during this year, in order to give a more hands-on aspect to learning.
Students follow a set of core subjects including English and Mathematics, plus taster subjects that run in 10-week blocks. This allows student the chance to follow a range of diverse classes. In addition there are scheduled experience classes with activities that range from fashion design to sports to work experience and more.
Transition year is a very popular choice for foreign exchange students, as there is less of a focus on exam preparation, and more focus practical and real-world skills.
Senior Cycle
The Senior Cycle is a two-year programme designed to prepare students for The Leaving Certificate Examination. The Leaving Certificate Examination takes place directly at the end of 6th Year.
Subjects at the Senior Cycle level can be studied at Ordinary Level or Higher Level. Students normally study 6 or 7 subjects during the Senior Cycle. Students must study a minimum of 5 subjects. In most schools, English, Irish and Maths are a compulsory part of Senior Cycle Programme, however an exemption for Irish Language can be sought for foreign students.
A variety of continental languages can be studied at the Senior Cycle level, including, French, German, and Spanish, however not all languages are offered by all secondary schools and students usually can only study one language.
Foreign exchange students usually choose to study on a 5th Year programme, unless trying to gain entry to the 3rd level education system in Ireland.
Notes
Direct entry not usually on offer

Most 16+ attend this year

Reports and progress
Schools and colleges monitor student progress and address concerns about attendance or progress with the student and Educatius Ireland. Periodic reports or online monitoring systems may be used to track homework submission, teacher comments, and attendance rates. At the end of the program, schools provide a final report detailing attendance, subjects studied, study dates, and grades, which are shared with agents after the student's departure.
Academic Calendar
The Irish Academic Year runs from September to June/July. Each Academic Year is made up of 3 terms:
Term 1 – August to December Term 2 – January to March Term 3 – April to May
Term 3 is traditionally a revision and exam preparation term and we do not accept applicants for this period. Between term 1, 2 and 3 is a 2 week holiday period which is in addition to mid-term breaks in October, February and May.
School term dates are standardized by the department of education, this means that all schools will start and finish on the same date.

Once the placement has been confirmed Educatius will share the following information:
• Designated Arrival /Departure Date (s)
• Designated Arrival / Departures Airport (s)
• Designated Arrival / Departure times
The designated dates, airports and times are set accordingly to allow for adequate onward transfer time to / from Host Family and allows for sufficient support upon arrival at the airport.
Educatius will provide supplementary fees for flights that arrive or depart to different airports, on different dates and at different times.
It is important to provide flight information no later than 10 business days prior to arrival and input via the online enrolment system and not via email. Failure to provide flight information to EDUCATIUS within this timeframe and in the appropriate manner will result in a supplementary fee invoice.
Providing that flight information has been received according to our guidelines and using our online system the airport pickup / departure information will be shared with the student and agent at least five business days before the student arrives.
Educatius organises transfers using the following methods of transportation:
• Host Family or Educatius staff
• Private coach along with other Educatius exchange students arriving at similar times and travelling to similar areas
• Private taxi along with other Educatius exchange students arriving at similar times and travelling to similar areas
• Public transport using coaches or trains – students will be advised by Educatius staff in order to take the correct form of transport and will be met upon arrival at designated drop off by Host Family or local coordinator
Some countries will not confirm departure dates until after the program has commenced. This is often due to the departure date being linked to exam schedules that cannot be confirmed by the host school until later in the academic cycle.
Insurance requirements.
All students on Educatius programmes in the UK or Ireland are required to have full insurance coverage for the duration of their programme.
Students are advised to use the insurance coverage offered by Educatius. This includes coverage for accidents, health care, luggage, medical evaluation, repatriation and third party liability. When the student is enrolled in the insurance plan, they will receive an email notification to the email they provided within their student application on Juno. This will allow them access to their insurance portal, where their insurance ID card will be stored.
For any student who insists on using any other insurance policy, the sending organisation is required to send clear information about the policy to Educatius at least one month prior to the student’s arrival. This must be in English. If the policy does not meet the required standards, including providing coverage for third party liability, Educatius will require the student to use the
insurance policy offered by Educatius and invoice the sending organisation for the cost.
Please be advised that any student opting to use an insurance policy other than the one provided by Educatius cannot be given assistance by Educatius in any claim / insurance matters. Students should also travel with an existing European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) or Global Health Insurance Card (GHIC) if eligible.
Students applying to the UK using a Student Visa or Child Student Visa will also be required to pay an Immigration Health Surcharge as a part of their visa application. This will entitle the student to the use of the National Health Service in the UK including general practitioner (GP) appointments, hospital treatment and emergency care without charge. Certain services such as eye tests, prescriptions and dental care may still require payment.
Pre-departure orientation
Educatius asks that all agent partners organize a Pre-Departure Orientation for their students. This helps ensure that students arrive to their placement country with a good understanding of program rules, resources, and expectations.
While this orientation can be done in one session, it is often helpful to break this up into two parts: one about two months before departure and the second about a week or two before departure. This gives students ample time to review what is expected of them after the first session and allows you to ensure that they are fully prepared for their program just prior to departure.
Educatius offers resources that may be helpful as you organize your Pre-Departure Orientation, including a Programs Student Handbook and a Pre-Departure Orientation Guide for Agents.
These materials will be sent out to all agent partners well in advance of the fall intake. Should you require any resources or further support as you plan for your Pre-Departure Orientation, please contact the local team.
In addition to your own Pre-Departure Orientation both UK and Ireland will offer a specialised Orientaion that students, agents and parents will be invited to attend prior to arrival.
These will take the form of live or pre-recorded events and will allow students to interact and learn from our local specialists about their destination of choice and get the opportunity to ask questions directly to our local teams.
The Pre-Departure Orientations take place in the month prior to arrival and the local office will invite students and agents directly.
Resilience training for Educatius students
We have created resilience training for all students, designed by teen mental health professionals and our support staff. This series of trainings proactively addresses stress, anxiety, and other common scenarios that international students may face during their program.
Student training will be available at key stages of their experience:
• Pre-departure before they leave home
• After arrival
• Before the holidays – December (for year-long students)
• Getting ready to return home
Training for students’ parents:
• Pre-departure before they leave home
• After arrival arrival
We are committed to providing the best support to our students before and during their program. To help us do this, please communicate all current and past student physical and psychological medical conditions prior to program start.
On-program orientations
Day School Programmes.
Educatius staff will deliver an on-programme orientation to all Day School students within the first two weeks post-arrival. Attendance is mandatory event and the session will review programme rules and address any student questions or concerns. This meeting will be held virtually with a member of the Educatius Management Team. This will then be followed by an in-person event with the student’s Local Coordinator. Again, attendance is mandatory and this is a good opportunity for students to meet the other international students in their local area.
Private Boarding School Programmes
As students will be living on site, the school will handle the in-person orientation once the student is in country. Students will receive an introductory call from their Educational Guardian to answer any questions and assist them with settling into their new environment. Orientations will differ per school.
Welcome Camps.
We strongly recommend that students join the Educatius UK and Ireland Welcome Camps.
Statistics show that students who attend the Welcome Camp settle into their programme faster than those who go directly to their host family placement on arrival.
Our Welcome Camps in the UK and Ireland are arranged and run by our Management Team and take place several dates before the official start of the High School programme start dates.
The Welcome Camp is a great opportunity for students to meet the staff involved in their programmes, including their Local Coordinator. A programme of engaging information sessions and fun on campus activities, combined with sightseeing trips into nearby city allows students to experience a supportive but exciting start to their programmes.
Our focus is very much on developing friendships and supporting students in building relationships with the students they are going to be living and studying alongside. Educatius staff and student ambassadors are on hand at all times to answer questions and help settle any nerves.
If you require any support/training regarding selling the Welcome Camps to potential students, please do get in touch.

Host family accomodation
Day School.
Students Students enrolled on the all Ireland or the UK Classic Exchange and Classic Plus programmes in will live with an Educatius-vetted host family. This is also the case for students on the Select Day programme in the UK, unless the student applies for a public school with their own halls of residence / student houses and they opt to live in one of these instead. Host families in the Uk and Ireland are paid a monthly stipend by Educatius. Many of our hosts have been hosting with us for year and have a proud tradition of welcoming international exchange students into their homes.
Living with a host family can offer a unique and rewarding cultural exchange experience, providing the opportunity to develop meaningful connections with local people and immerse onceself in the new culture. Our families come from all walks of life and have a variety of family structures (i.e. 2 parent families with children, families with no children, single parents etc.).
We will place students with a fully-screened host family. The screening process includes a detailed application, an in-home visit and criminal background checks.
In the UK and Ireland it is typical for host families to host one or two students. This would be referred to as a single or double placement respectively. Whilst not common, some families opt to host three students in total. This is only the case where the home is big enough to accommodate those students and provide them with space and privacy. This would be referred to as a triple placement.
Students in double or triple placements will not speak the same native language and will never be of the same nationality. Sometimes, if on a UK Term, Semester or Duo programme or on all Ireland programmes, they will share a room. If so, each student will have their own bed and storage area for clothes. Students on a UK Select Academic Year programme
will never share a room. It is possible for students to guarantee a single room regardless of programme lengths via a supplement at point of application.
The host family profile, including pictures of the family and the home will be provided at point of placement. Select programme students will receive their host family placements at least 4 weeks prior to the programme start date. Classic Exchange and Classic Plus programme students will receive their host family placements at least 2 weeks prior to the programme start date. Once placement details are provided, please encourage the student to introduce themselves to the host family. We kindly ask that natural parents do not contact the host family.
Once on the programme, students are asked to try to adapt to the family for at least 30 days. The student and host family will have the support of the Local Coordinator. Students are also able to contact the Educatius UK/Ireland Independent Listener if they find they are having difficulties settling into their host family placement. We understand that it can take some time to adjust to a new culture, family, friends and school, and that culture shock and homesickness might affect some students. Please encourage your students to become independent and successful by motivating them to work directly with the Local Coordinator to get to the root of the problem, should one arise.
The host family and Local Coordinator will help the student become acclimated to their neighbourhood and local community. They will also assist the student in becoming comfortable with their commute to/from school and social activities. While our host families will wish to share their town, region and country with students, they are not required to provide a programme of sightseeing or touristic activities as a part of their hosting duties.
Students can expect:
• A bedroom – furnished with a bed and place for storing clothes. If no desk in the bedroom then there will be a quiet place elsewhere in the home for the student to study. The bedroom may be shared with another student.
• Half board meal plan UK – inc. Breakfast and dinner Monday-Friday during the school term. Lunch also included on weekends and during school holidays.
• Full board meal plan Ireland – inc. Breakfast, lunch and dinner Monday-Friday throughout programme duration.
• Transportation – The host family or Local Coordinator will advise on how a student is to travel to and from school. Public transport such as bus or train is frequently used, although some students may be able to walk. In Ireland, host families driving students to school is common. The school commute will vary between students but will never be more than 60 minutes door-to-door. The costs of any transport required for school will be the responsibility of the student.
Family First UK & Ireland
Educatius UK & Ireland are delighted to offer students the opportunity to choose their own host family placement. We appreciate that, for many students and their families, the host family placement is the most important element of the programme. Any student who does not wish to wait to receive their host family placement details and who would like to feel in control of their placement, can do so by opting for Family First.
Educatius UK & Ireland each provide a Family First Availability List. This is a database of families across the respective country available to host students on various programmes (Classic and Select in Ireland / Classic Plus and Select in UK). The database allows agent partners and students to browse family options based on criteria such as family structure, any pets, distance from school and method of transport for commute etc. Detailed Family First profiles are available for all families on the database.
All families on the Family First Availability List have provided their consent for their information to be shared in this way. They have also agreed to the possibility of students choosing
to be hosted by them, rather than Educatius making the match. Finally, they agree to earlier contact with the student. Agents are asked to communicate with the UK / Ireland team once a student has made a selection of their host family. Educatius UK & Ireland will request a deposit to be paid to confirm the family selection. Once received, the placement is complete. On May 1st, Educatius will release the contact details for the host family so that the student may introduce themselves and take the time to get to know the family in advance of arrival. The remaining balance for the Family First payment will be due alongside the final balance of general programme fees.
In the unlikely event that a selected Family First host family withdraws from hosting commitments, Educatius UK & Ireland will offer the agent and student the option of a full refund of Family First fees or the opportunity to select another family from the Family First Availability List.
Host Family Moves
With the best intentions in the world, it can happen that a host family and student match that looks perfect on paper, does not work out in real life. Our experienced Local Coordinators, supported by managers, will seek to address, and resolve any concerns. It is the expectation that all parties will make a good faith effort to resolve any issues or dissatisfaction. If necessary, however, we will find a new qualified family to host the student.
If a new host family is required, the student will move within 4 weeks from the date the move decision has been made. Educatius will share the new host family profile and confirmed move date with the agent before moving the student.
If there is a reasonable concern that the student’s safety is at risk, the student will be moved immediately to a temporary host family and the agent will be informed as soon as practical.
UK Private boarding programme
Living on campus at a boarding school dormitory is an exciting experience for international students. Schools take great care to provide some of the best accommodations available to students. In most cases, international high school students will be sharing a room with other students. Room setup can be anything from two students in one room using a common bathroom, to four students in a room with a shared bathroom. Some boarding schools also offer single rooms, but they are usually reserved final year year students.
Boarding schools provide students with all the on-site services they need. There is typically 24-hour adult supervision, providing students the chance to ask questions about homework assignments or for help during challenging times. Here are some of the reasons that students love boarding school life:
• Students get to live with friends and classmates
• Boarding schools make campus life fun by offering activities after classes
• International students can practice their English in the dorms with friends
• Students have access to varied food options during mealtimes
• Classes are usually only walking distance away
• Help is always right around the corner, whether it is a classmate or an adult supervisor
• Some schools coordinate trips for dorm students. These off-campus trips can take place on weekends or during vacations and can include: visiting a nearby city/town for shopping or sightseeing, going to the beach, visiting the local amusement park, hiking, skiing, and more.
Boarding schools are typically closed during holiday Educatius and/or school partner will assist students with finding host family for breaks. Please note that when the student stays in a host family for a school break, they are charged an extra fee.
Where do Educatius work?
Educatius UK work with Private Boarding School partners across the UK. Every school offers something slightly different from the next and the team can guide partners and their students on the best school options to meet their requirements.
What is included within the Educatius UK Private Boarding School package price?
Historically, Educatius UK have used an ‘indicative’ pricing structure for the Private Boarding Programme. This is because UK Private Schools tend not to set their fees until April for the coming fall. We appreciate that this can cause a sense of uncertainty for agent partners and natural parents. Therefore, for September 2026 and beyond, Educatius UK will be packaging Private Boarding programme fees to include a confirmed Boarding and Tuition fee. The package price will reflect what will be charged by Educatius UK regardless of fees published by the chosen school in the spring. We hope this will provide agents and their clients with a sense of confidence and security.
The package price includes:
• School Registration Fee
• School Tuition & Boarding Fees
• Educational Guardianship Fee
• Educational Guardianship Expenses Deposit
• Commission (set amount dependent on programme length and published on pricelist)
The School Acceptance Deposit is indicated as a seperate fee on the pricelist and is in addition to the package fee. This is returned at the end of the student’s programme minus any unpaid school fees.
What is included within the Educational Guardianship package?

Educational Guardianship
UK Visa and Immigration law requires international students attending Private Boarding Schools to have an Educational Guardian. This is a representative within the UK to step in and take care of the student’s welfare in the case of emergency,
suspension or explusion from school, and during school breaks.
Educatius UK partner with an experienced Educational Guardianship provider. They are accredited to Gold Standard by AEGIS and provide an excellent service. Educational Guardianship is included within the package Private Boarding fee published by Educatius UK. The Guardian will be introduced to the student and parent before arrival in the UK. They will ensure that all communication comes via Educatius to be passed to agent and natural parents.
It is important not to confuse the term ‘Educational Guardian’ with ‘Legal Guardian’ as these two terms denote very different responsibilities. The parents/legal guardians maintain their legal responsibilities whilst the student is on the programme – their rights do not change. The Educational Guardian acts in loco parentis to support the student whilst they are in the UK. In most cases, the Educational Guardian is involved in the logistics around a student’s programme including arranging airport transfers and host family accommodation over school holidays. However, it is also important to understand that the Educational Guardian will step in to support in an emergency situation, such in the case of a serious health issue requiring hospital treatment. The Educational Guardian will have permission from parents/ legal guardians to make important decisions on their behalf if required. In no way does the Educational Guardian replace parents, instead their presence provides an extra level of security. An Educational Guardian is in no way related to the school and their focus is on promoting the welfare and interests of the student.
What is the Guardianship Expenses Deposit?
The Expenses Deposit of is included within the package price and held to cover any additional guardianship costs. The value is £450 of the package fee. This can be refunded at the end of the programme if any value remains unused (however, in our experience there tends not to be any remaining funds by the end of the programme).
Examples of additional costs covered by the Expenses Deposit include:
• Airport Transfers
• Transport to and from homestay accommodation during holiday times
• Homestay hosting fees during holiday time
• Additional attendance at school events/meetings requested by parents or as a result of student disciplinary issues
Parents will be kept up to date regarding the remaining balance of the Expenses Deposit and will be notified if a top up is required.

Any bookings accepted by Educatius Group constitute an agreement of the terms and conditions in the agent agreement, irrespective of whether the agreement is signed by the agent or not.
On programme support
Educatius UK and Ireland have a network of local coordinators throughout both countries.
The coordinators are trained and experienced in working with young people and taking care of them.
The local coordinator plays a key role in checking the suitability of a host family home and interviewing the adults in the home, prior to the student being placed. They help to prepare the host family for the arrival of their student and will also provide assistance with settling in.
At the start of the programme, the coordinator will hold an Arrival Orientation with the new students. This will be an opportunity for the students to get to know each other, their coordinator, and their new home town.
During the programme, the coordinator will keep in regular contact with the student and host family. They will arrange face-to-face meetings and also keep in touch by phone.
Should any issues arise, the coordinator will help the student and the host family solve them. Alternatively, if it is necessary to arrange a new host family placement, the coordinator will make such arrangements and communicate these with the student and with the Student Support Team. This information is then fed back to the agent partner also. The coordinator will do their best to ensure that the whole programme runes smoothly for both the student and the host family.
Students in the UK and Ireland will also be contacted by the relevant Student Support Manager during their programme. They will be asked to complete our ‘Happiness Check’. This is an opportunity for students to provide very quick feedback on how they feel about their school, host family and the support from their local coordinator. If any student raises any concern, the Student Support Manager will follow up with them to help resolve the issue.
During the programme, if students feel that they need additional support but do not feel they can communicate this to their local coordinator for any reason, they are able to use the Educatius Independent Listener Service. Students are provided with the phone number during Welcome Camp and Arrival Orientations. This is a direct line to the Student Support Team and students will then be assisted in working out the best way to move forward.
Student Disciplinary Process
Whilst we very much hope that a student’s programme runs smoothly, it is important that agent partners are aware of the process should student behaviour be an issue. Educatius UK and Ireland work to a three-step disciplinary procedure as follows:
1. Verbal Warning – the student will receive a verbal warning from their local coordinator. The reason they are receiving the warning will be explained as well as the expected behaviour moving forward. The Educatius Head Office team will notify the agent of the warning.
2. Written Warning – in cases of more serious behaviour issues, or where an improvement in behaviour has not been seen since the receipt of a verbal warning, a written warning will be issued. This is a letter that explains why the warning is being issued and clearly lists the rules from the ‘Student and Parent Programme Rules and Agreement’ that have been broken. It is made clear that any further behaviour issues will result in dismissal from the programme.
3. Dismissal – in the most serious of cases where it is not deemed safe to keep the student on programme, or where poor behaviour has continued despite previous written warning, the student will be dismissed from the programme. The Educatius UK & Ireland Head Office will liaise with the student’s agent to ensure that they and natural parents are fully aware of the situation. Typically, the student will be required to depart the host country within 48 hours.
Our impact.
We believe education can change lives—and that our work should make a difference far beyond the program itself. Here’s how we do it:
Access to education.
Through Aiducatius, our non-profit initiative, we support schools in Africa by funding teachers, meals, and school supplies. Every student who joins an Educatius program helps open classroom doors for others.
Climate-conscious exchange.
We’ve planted trees in Tanzania since 2009 to balance the environmental impact of international travel. These forests help restore ecosystems and create sustainable livelihoods for local youth.
Resilient youth, global future.
Our Global Youth Resilience Initiative gives students tools to thrive abroad and beyond. Being a teen isn’t always easy—but with support, every challenge becomes a lesson in confidence and growth.
