Operational Strategy

Edson College of Nursing and Health Innovation is proud to be a health care education leader in the most innovative university in the nation, where the term “strategy” is never seen as a “one and done” element of operations; rather, it’s considered a living thing in a state of perpetual motion. After all, a true and impactful strategy involves being able to visualize the future and anticipate education and workforce development needs; it’s the ability to create, test and scale solutions; to learn fast, pivot as necessary, and never become complacent. Nowhere is this more important or necessary than in the field of health care education.
Of course, strategy isn’t just about the mechanics of operations. We are training professionals in a human-centric field, and as such, our strategy is based on fundamental values; of inclusivity, of personal wellness, of diversity and creating a sense of belonging for all who are part of our college. We are strategically investing in people - people who learn, who teach, who mentor, and who guide and support. We strategically invest in partnerships - with clinical and industry partners, other universities, social and community groups, professional organizations - because we know creating networks of like-minded individuals and organizations committed to collectively advancing health care education is a communal necessity.
In the pages that follow, you see key areas of strategy for the years 2003-2026, as well as key achievements in the past year. Please feel free to direct any questions or comments to appropriate members of our Executive LeadershipTeam outlined in this document.

While theArizona State University charter has long advocated for inclusivity in all aspects of university life and operations, the Edson College of Nursing and Health Innovation is taking that premise a step further. The college’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives have added one more key element: belonging
“There are many layers to DEI, and at the heart of things, the goal of DEI work is to create and maintain an environment where people feel they belong,” explains Edson College Dean andASU Chief Wellness Officer Judith Karshmer. “Edson is guided by a set of values, one of which is wellness,” says Karshmer. “Feeling you are truly part of something - a community, a cohort, a university environment - is fundamental to a sense of overall well being.”
