lets you invest energy and effort in a pleasant and funny activity, trains executive functions, that are important for the development of the basic and higher scholastic learning, thanks to the specific contents of each game, activates strategic thinking and stimulates discussion on the offered contents between peers, develops emotional, cognitive and behavioural autoregulation, because it requires connections with others and the sharing of simple rules.

Through multiple gaming activities and thanks to its diversified contents, the series MEMOplay entertains and cognitively stimulates at each age and at different levels of competence.

YOUNGER CHILDREN can be introduced to the game with their cards showing and with a limited number of cards (16 cards): the number can gradually increase depending on the child’s feedback. Players compete to reduce the duration of the game, with positive results for their self-esteem. Moreover, describing and nominating what is depicted–together with the adultstimulates verbal expression and will teach them to abstract the quality that characterizes the content of the illustrated card. Set out the cards in an ordered array of rows and columns in order to facilitate spatial memorization.

THE MERRY-GO-ROUND OF EMOTIONS

The games of the series MEMOplay are a real “gym” for the mind. Players train memory and concentration by trying to remember the position of the matching couples. Also, the specific content of each game (emotions, contraries, etc.) stimulates memory of work, which is necessary to withhold information for the time that you need to elaborate them and to find the correct associations. Flexible, focused and sustained attention permit you to keep in mind various information at the same time; in addition, through this game, players learn different strategies that are applicable to other contexts and they can train abilities linked to the specific offered contents.

A TRAINING FOR YOUR MIND

The merry-go-round of emotions provides 40 «emotion cards» (happiness, fear, anger, surprise, sadness) illustrated with 4 different characters. The box also provides 4 «character cards» and 5 «emotion cards» for a few variants of the game. Moreover, this game provides three graduated variants based on different levels of difficulty: the players start with the first variant . They begin with a limited quantity of couples to learn the mechanism of the game, and then they increase the number and make the challenge harder. The variants 2 and 3 not only increase the difficulty, but also stimulate the flexibility in adapting to different rules that are necessary to get the couple, and they introduce a more strategic playing mode. In the game merry-go-round of emotions, children activate the reading of the emotional expression that body language provides (mouth, eyes, look, position, etc.), and they also develop the ability to give emotions a name. *The box contains also a white card.

DESIRÈE ROSSI Primary school teacher, graduated in Science of Education and in Clinical Psychology. She taught in Primary Schools of the province of Trento, where she focused on the theme of emergent alphabetization. She collaborated with the Research and Formation Sector of the Centro Studi Erickson for the project SOFIA, an expert system for the drafting of PEI and PDP. She is the author of the Tablotto cards, a didactic game edited by Erickson.

Variant 3 – «Emotion cards» Max 5 players The 5 emotion cards are dealt to the players. Depending on the assigned emotion, each player shall find the couples of his or her emotions in each of the 4 characters. Variant 2 – «Character cards» Max 4 players The 4 character cards are dealt to the players. Depending on the assigned character, each player shall find the couples of emotions that are related to his or her own character. It is not possible to take up the cards that are related to another player’s character. The one who first finds all the 5 couples of emotions of his or her own character wins.

Variant 1 – Cards are shuffled and turned with the drawing down. Each player turns two cards, matching the visible card to its corresponding (same emotion in the same character) to get the couple. If there are any doubts about the match, just make the cards’ sides with the white symbol combine. If the symbol completes with the close-proximity of the two cards, the match is correct and the game goes on. The one who gets the highest number of couples wins.
