Take this year’s Revolution Continental road bike (page 11). It hasn’t just had its butted 7005 aluminium frame upgraded for 2012. Its red-anodised gear hanger, red cable housing, red stripe tyres and red-anodised headset spacers combine to create a striking unified look. Despite these upgrades, at £449.99, this fast road bike costs £10 less than last year’s model. BEST-EQUIPPED COMMUTER/ HYBRID FOR THE MONEY. Not so long ago you visited a bike shop and the choice was between a skinny-tyred road bike and a knobbly-tyred MTB (mountain bike). Many Edinburgh Bicycle Co-op customers let us know they craved something in between. This inspired us to create the Trailfinder. Its alloy MTB frame and wheels make it perfect for Sustrans paths. Then we civilized the bike for city use with smoother-rolling 26x1.95 semi-slick tyres. We fitted it with mudguards to protect you from wheel spray. We spec’d a steel rigid fork that was lighter weight than any suspension fork and would never require maintenance. We gave it adjustable-rise handlebars so you could explore trails in upright comfort. That was back in 2005. The Revolution Trailfinder worked so well, we have retained its key features to this day. If it ain’t broke.... Even though it’s the least expensive bike we do, many Bike Co-op customers have told us that it’s as good a bicycle as they will ever need. Why pay more? We are confident that you won’t find a better equipped commuter/ hybrid bike for this kind of money in Britain today.

ADVANCED MTB SPEC @ ENTRY-LEVEL PRICE. The Revolution Ascent XC Disc brings you the key features of a better quality MTB (mountain bike) at an entry-level price point. The lightweight lifetime-guaranteed 7005 aluminium alloy frame has been tried and tested on Revolution MTBs for the past decade. Check the business-like welds and the sculpted rear dropout. The Ascent’s suspension fork is equally reliable. It’s made by SunTour - probably the world’s largest fork manufacturer. Amazingly for the money, the fork’s 63mm travel can be locked out - a feature you might appreciate on smooth road rides, and definitely on ascents. Shimano EZ Fire shifters control the 3x7 (21-speed) gears. The 640mm-wide alloy riser bar, with 31.8mm centre clamp, steers the Ascent with authority. Should you need to scrub the Ascent’s speed, you will be grateful for its mechanical disc brakes courtesy of renowned bicycle brake manufacturer, Clarks. The Revolution Ascent XC Disc comes in 5 sizes to suit near-any adult. The 14” model is a perfect intro to the pleasures of mountain biking for kids as young as 12.

WE’RE PROUD OF OUR HERITAGE. Brand new for 2012 our Heritage Deluxe proves that elegant traditional-styled bikes are a great way to travel in the 21st Century. Its tall handlebars with faux leather grips, its matching sprung saddle and its swoopy unisex frame invite you to step on the pedals and enjoy the ride - perhaps with a punnet of cherries and a bottle of pop in the wicker basket. The bike’s full mudguards and chain guard reduce the risk of soiling your clothes. True to its great British biking heritage, it boasts Sturmey Archer drum brakes and 3-speed hub gears. These are intrinsically longer lasting than brakes and gears that are obliged to live on the outside of the bike in all weathers. The bike even comes fitted with a kickstand, making it as easy to park as it is a pleasure to ride. The only deviations from the Heritage Deluxe’s old-school vibe are the frame, wheels, cranks, seatpost and stem which are all lightweight aluminium alloy. We wouldn’t want you to get too weighed down by tradition.

A ROAD BIKE FOR ALL SEASONS. When Cycling Plus magazine reviewed last year’s version of our Continental road bike, they summed it up as follows: ‘The Revolution Continental’s looks received positive comments even from cyclists riding machines costing three times as much. Just as positive was the riding experience: during faster-paced group riding on the flat it can easily steam along at over 20mph.’ For 2012, we have refined the bike’s frame with new features such as a flattened/profiled hydroformed top tube and a butted seat tube. Weatherproof internal gear cable routing with full-length cable outers help ensure flawless communication between the Shimano 2300 2x8 Dual Control shifters and the gear mechs. This internal routing reinforces the Continental’s credentials as a bicycle for all seasons - that is, it is one of the few road bikes with the clearance and the eyelets required to fit full mudguards. For all these upgrades in spec, the 2012 Continental costs £10 less than last year’s model. Revolutionary value, indeed.
