SENIOR SCHOOL

We know the 11+ process can be a little daunting for families but the key is finding the right school for your daughter as an individual.
We hope you will find the information in this booklet useful in guiding you through your application. Along the way we will do our best to help you find out all there is to know about Edgbaston High School and our friendly Admissions Team are always on hand if you have any questions.
We hope to welcome you to EHS at one of our open events but in the meantime you can find out more about us via our website and social media feeds:

News stories written by pupils and staff, images and videos are posted to the website each week as ‘Friday Headlines’, and our social media feeds illustrate activities in the classroom and beyond to build a picture of the modern and inspiring education we offer at EHS.
From our youngest to our most senior pupil, we aim to nurture confident, considerate and intellectually curious young women.
We will do this by:
• Inspiring a life-long passion for learning, to encourage a thirst for knowledge and to provide each girl with the opportunity of becoming an independent learner.
• Delivering education of the highest standard via a comprehensive programme of study consisting of a broad and balanced core curriculum complemented and enriched by a wide variety of co-curricular pursuits.
• Fostering interests which will enrich each girl and enable her to make a valuable contribution to the school and the wider community.
• Providing a caring pastoral system, which supports mental health and wellbeing, enabling every girl to develop her character, confidence and demonstrate her talents, and to take on roles of leadership and responsibility.
• Promoting a strong sense of community in which girls are helped to develop respectful and tolerant attitudes which will enable them to live in harmony with all members of society.
On the website you will find a range of school policies on matters such as safeguarding and data privacy as well as information about the curriculum, co-curricular activities and our outstanding programme of pastoral care: www.edgbastonhigh.co.uk
Entry to the Senior School is academically selective and the main entry point is Year 7 (11+). Assessments are taken in Year 6 for entry into Year 7 the following September.
If you wish to enter your daughter for the examination please ensure you register her before the deadline of Monday 23 September 2024.
The Registration Fee of £80 covers our administrative costs and is non-refundable. This may be paid via the Admissions Portal. Acceptance of a registration does not constitute an offer of a place. We cannot accept late registrations.
On acceptance of a place a deposit of £400 is due, refunded to you when your daughter leaves, less any disbursements.
You may register your daughter by completing the form on our Admissions Portal. The portal will allow you to create an account, register and pay for your daughter’s registration and track the progress of this.
Before signing up to the Admissions Portal remember to have to hand:
• A scanned head and shoulders photo of your daughter.
• A pdf of any relevant medical or Educational Psychologist’s report you wish to submit (which may results in Extra Time being allocated in examinations).
• A VISA/Mastercard debit or credit card to pay the registration fee.
Girls applying for entry to Year 7 are assessed on the basis of online Entrance Assessments in English, Mathematics, Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning, and an interview. In addition, a confidential report on achievement and progress is requested from your daughter’s current school. All candidates will sit a 50 minute online assessment that will be taken at EHS in October. Candidates will be invited in small groups to the Senior School and take the assessment in one of our ICT rooms.
We are keen to meet all prospective pupils in person to find out more about their individual interests, gifts and talents. All girls are required to attend a 10 minute interview with the Headmistress or another member of staff. All interviews will take place on the day your daughter sits her entrance examination. We would be grateful if you could attend on your allocated date as the interviews for both parents and daughter form a key part of our decision-making.
The content will be based on the National Curriculum and, as such, no special preparation is recommended. We are not looking for what a candidate has been taught so much as to identify their potential. We do not provide past examination papers, however, all candidates are given an opportunity to familiarise themselves with the format of the examination beforehand. Parents might also find it useful to look at the Bond 11+ books in preparation.
Once the examinations are complete the results will be considered alongside a candidate’s school report and the interview. Place offers are made in early December.
Offers will be made on Friday 6 December 2024.
The school reserves the right not to interview candidates on the basis of poor performance in the Entrance Tests and is under no obligation to enter into correspondence concerning such decisions. Parents’ decisions on acceptance (or otherwise) are required on, or as soon as possible, following the first Monday in March - a date agreed by local independent schools.
Occasionally, due to parental demand, we run a supplementary Entrance Examination around Easter time. Please contact the Admissions Office for further information and to be added to the Waiting List.
All girls that register for the entrance examination in October will be automatically considered for an academic scholarship based on their performance in the examinations; there is no need to register separately for this. Scholarships are awarded between 10-50% remission of school fees.
You do not need to make a separate application to the Academic Scholarships as all girls will be automatically considered.
If you wish to apply for your daughter to sit the music scholarship examinations, please request an application form from the Admissions office. This will be sent out to you within 10 working days following registration. Application forms must be received on Monday 23 September 2024 in order for your daughter to be entered for the music scholarship examination. Late applications will not be accepted.
The school is able to accept new pupils into Senior School, subject to availability of places. Please contact the Admissions Team in the first instance to discuss if there is room in your year group of interest. Please note that we do not offer entry to Year 11, or into Year 10 after December.
If you wish your daughter to be considered for a Music Scholarship, you must make a separate application. Invitations to the music interviews/ auditions will be sent following the registration deadline of Monday 23 September 2024.
Our school fees are set by the School’s Governing Body at the beginning of the Summer Term and covers text books, stationery and Personal Accident Insurance. Please note that school fees and extras are subject to an annual increase. For the current fees list please visit the Admissions section of our website. Lunch is compulsory for pupils in Years 7-11 and is charged separately.
If you wish to apply for bursary funding, please request an application form from the Admissions Office. This will be sent out to you within 10 working days following registration. Application forms, together with the accompanying documents, must be received by the bursary application deadline of Monday 23 September 2024 in order for your application to be considered.
