Well there is no denying that the Murray-Darling River system is one whopping great mess. The question is, who’s responsible and how is it going to get sorted out? For those who believe the best way forward is a Royal Commission into the management of the MurrayDarling basin then it is time to get online and sign the Australia Institute petition at: https://bit.ly/2MWO8ia. Scam warning: Criminals are targeting unsuspecting individuals by suggesting their computer or phone is being ‘hacked’ by scammers and they are at risk of being accused of assisting criminal activity. They do this to scare you into providing remote access to your device. The modus operandi of the criminal is to shut down the part of your brain that thinks clearly so that your more primal brain is led into the trap. How to protect yourself: www.idcare.org. Q Q Q Q

Did you know that there is a purpose to the fart? Well at least for manatees, who use flatulence to balance and stay buoyant. Perhaps it is due to all the sea grasses that they consume, that they rely on digestive gas to keep themselves afloat. Then they either store, or let it rip, to sink or float at will. A human chain was formed from the North to the South of Lebanon last week to symbolise the country’s unity. The 170km chain was to send a message that the Lebanese reject ‘sectarian affiliation’. Protests aimed at driving change in the elite political system have been taking place since 17 October. Q Q Q Q

Viola Smith, the world’s oldest drummer, is still playing at 106. According to openculture.com she ‘played with the NBC Symphony Orchestra, performed for Harry Truman’s inauguration in 1949, and played in the Kit-Kat Band in the first Broadway run of Cabaret from 1966-70.

A little reminder from one of our readers who sent in this photo of a random sign in the Shire. They said it was time for everyone to keep a close eye on your pets so our wildlife can flourish.

Many say that we can’t afford to have a free health care system, compensate our Rural Fire Service (RFS) and State Emergency Service (SES) volunteers, or look after refugees – but hey what’s $150m between mates? ScoMo has recently promised his mate Trump that he can have $150m of your dollars to go towards the US mission to Mars! Q Q Q Q

Queensland has predictably cracked down on climate activists, passing new laws that criminalise locking-on devices. Many of the claims made by the government in support of the law changes have been debunked, or weren’t supported with evidence in the first instance. The Greens MP, Michael Berkman, was the only MP to vote against the laws.
