The more women see it as an option, the more will get involved,’ she said. Amy wants to stay in the intermediate division for another year before moving on to opens, so she can try for entry to the world championships. ‘It is definitely a goal of mine,’ she said.

Further tries to Byron’s Matt Gallagher and Mullum’s Brett Kelly Wirth saw the sides go to halftime oranges with the Red Devils hanging on to a six-point lead. The second half belonged to the Giants who looked far hungrier as the Devils lacked the fight in the contest. Against the run of play the Red Devils were first to score on the back of an Andrew Battese 40-metre solo effort. But the Giants took advantage of their sustained attack and added three tries to Zac Docking, Sio Alefosia, and Rhys Carruth to close out the game-worthy winners.

Teams from BrunswickByron, Tweed, Lower Clarence, Ballina, Casino, and Grafton associations competed at the carnival. There were approximately 330 players plus coaches, managers, umpires, volunteers, and supporters. Although competition

was fierce, games are not officially scored. Representative carnivals are held in order to give players a chance to develop their skills, as they prepare for two sets of statewide championships played in and around Sydney in June and July. It was a perfect day for netball, and as always, there were incredible aerial displays by the players as they jostled for possession. Teams range in age from U12s through to Opens. Netball was the winner.
