The Value of Financial Advice: Long-term Care Planning

As more and more of us are living for longer we are increasingly susceptible to ailments which challenge our physical and mental well-being. This is why it is advisable to investigate long term care plans which could give you the financial support you may need in your advanced years.
A Familiar Story Jean and Arthur’s story is a relatively familiar one. Arthur had been diagnosed with dementia and was no longer able to carry out many of the routine functions of daily living. Jean was still physically active but she was simply not strong enough to cope with Arthur’s physical needs. So she set about finding him a Residential Home, where she could be confident that he would be well cared for and close enough that she could visit him every day. The Concern Jean’s over-riding concern was that Arthur would still be cared for if anything happened to her. Her greatest fear was that she pre-decease Arthur; his care home fees are neglected and administrative chaos might adversely affect Arthur’s well-being. She wanted to guarantee that Arthur’s fees would continue to be paid regardless of whatever happened to their investments and ideally to include provision for increases in the cost of Arthur’s care. A Solution An experienced adviser is likely to be familiar with various options that can be used to address individual concerns – whilst minimising any impact on the existing financial status. In Jean and Arthur’s case an Immediate Needs Annuity was the best solution. This is unlike a conventional annuity, in terms of how it is funded, paid and protected. 8
A lump sum is derived from any non-pension fund and paid to an insurance company. The company then pay regular fees directly to the care home. The payments are free of tax and will continue for the rest of Arthur’s life. The Outcome There are certain details to look into beforehand, including the average level of past fee increases, in order to incorporate future increases at a fixed rate of interest. Sometimes the care home may be happy to negotiate reduced fee increases in exchange for certainty. In Arthur’s case, the annual increases had been averaging 5.5% but the home incorporated a fixed rate of 4% each year. Certainty and peace of mind are the key outcomes of this approach - which is exactly what Jean wanted in ensuring that Arthur was secure and comfortable at his residential home. top tips for the perfect picture New camera for Christmas? Let me share some tips for taking better, more appealing pictures.
4. Subject Space
1. Most of the time you will be taking pictures of children or pets. When photographing any of these you will most probably find you are taller. Avoid taking the picture looking down at the child or pet. Position yourself lower and take the picture on their level. Make eye contact this adds a connection from the subject to the viewer. Example Below.
Much more appealing when taken on the same level as the subject.
2. Do not make the subject too big or small in the frame. When photographing the subject, you do not want it to be tiny in one corner of a picture, alternatively you do not want it to be so big that it fills most of the frame. This Deer is taking up the correct amount of space in the picture. He has space around him and is not so small that he is overpowered by the foliage.
Leave space for the subject to move into, notice the parakeet has room to the right to fly towards. 5. Sunshine Shoot with the sun behind the subject. Where possible put the subject in the shade. If the sun is causing heavy shadows on the subject, you may need some flash to fill this in.
3. Rule of Thirds Position the main subject on a third.
