Inside this issue: Food of Faith is a community service for low income and homeless people in the Bay County area. Local churches prepare, serve, and clean up. Trinity Episcopal Church on Center Avenue opens their building, and coordinates the calendar. The ministry feeds around 150 people every week. The Missions Board has committed EBCC again this year to prepare and serve the meal on Sunday, October 20. There is a sign-up to donate items or funds to purchase items for the meal, as well as people to prepare the food, serve, and also to clean up afterwards. The meal is served from 2:30 - 3:30 pm. Volunteers please arrive at 12:30 pm. The menu will be ham, scallop potatoes, green beans and cookies. We are looking for 8 dozen cookies from congregation. Look for the sign-up poster in the Lounge. Contact either Michele VanSnepson or Sheila Reid if you can cook.

Student Ministries Activities

Youth Group Meets Tuesday Nights Middle School and High School Students—come for a great time with friends and discover something new about God. The Youth Group meets on Tuesdays at 6:00 pm. Bring your friends! On November 15—16 the youth group is planning a “Gamers Challenge Lock-down”. The registration and parental consent form will be mailed out this month. Be sure to mark your calendars.

Adventure Club Wednesdays, 6:00 - 7:30 pm For 4 years old thru 5th grade Adventure Club resumes this Wednesday, October 2, 2013. Ms. Rose welcomes all children 4 years old through grade five to come for a Bible story, games, snacks and fun. If anyone would like to help with Adventure Club, please call Ms. Rose at 989.892.9892.

Missions “Shoebox Ministry” The Missions Board invites you to take part in this unique ministry, Operation Christmas Child Shoeboxes. Every other month there will be a list of suggested items that we wish to collect. For the month of October, please bring socks, long or short sleeve Tshirts, Toys like small puzzles, games. No toys with liquids or war items. Items can be left in the drop-box which is available in the lounge. We are looking for a covered trailer to haul the shoeboxes to the Mt. Pleasant collection site. Contact Michele VanSnepson if you know of one available. Pack a box and see how the collection of boxes grows!

Communion Sunday Is Food Pantry Sunday Every Communion Sunday bring in specific food items to help stock the food pantry. This month we are looking for the following items: Soups/stews, Applesauce, can fruit, coffee/tea and oatmeal/cereal. Paper products are always welcome. Items can be left in the designated containers at each entrance of Church.

The Lighthouse The regularly scheduled meeting of the Church Council was on Monday, September16. Sixteen members were present. The minutes from the August meeting were reviewed and accepted. The resignation letter from Jane Kinnamon for Adventure Club, Children’s Sunday school, and as Worship Leader was received. Cooks are needed for Food of Faith. Copies of the letter that Dr. Landis sent last month will be distributed for discussion next month. The Part-time Pastor position will be open. Open house for the Kinnamon family will be held Sunday September, 29. Invitations will go out on Tuesday. Guest speakers will be scheduled until an interim pastor can be assigned. Positions that Jane vacated will be filled. Music and Worship committee will cover the worship music. Shirley Reid will take care of posting the music on the computer for the projector. Missions: Food of Faith will be October 20. Cooks are needed. Michele VanSnepson will attend the annual Food of Faith planning meeting for 2014 on October 15. It was decided not sign up for dates next year. The Operation Christmas Child shoebox collection will be November 18 through November 25. There is a need for a cover trailer to deliver the shoeboxes to Mt. Pleasant. Christian Ed: Scott and Michelle Wynne are considering teaching the elementary Sunday school. Kelley Edmonds will coordinate the Jr. Church program and Vickie Roller will continue scheduling teachers. Rose Smith will lead the Adventure Club. Les Anderson will head the Men’s Group. Deacons: Don Buschlen has agreed to schedule the guest speakers and set order of worship. Pat Smith has volunteered to help Don Buschlen as service leader. The Sunshine Fund has a balance of $2817 at this time. Trustees: The window project is complete and a final check was mailed out. A written request from the Smiths to reduce their custodial pay to help the budget was accepted. Guest Speakers will be paid $125 plus 50 cents per mile. Boards were asked to reduce their spending where possible. A security bell will be placed at the office side entrance for the safety of Jeanne and anyone who is alone in the building. Emergency numbers will be available for notification. Don Buschlen and Mike Osterhout will be contacted for emergencies and the Chair of Deacons will be asked to be on call. As requested by Pastor Richard, Mike Osterhout will be present when he packs up his office. The next regularly scheduled council meeting will be on Monday, October 21.

Do You Like to Decorate or Do Gardening? We are looking for a cooperative committee of men and women with willing hands to care for the Church inside and outside. This means decorating the sanctuary, bulletin boards and caring for the gardens outside etc. Contact Peg Brunner if you are interested in this ministry.

Men’s Group Meet October 12 & 26 The location for the Men’s Group will be the “Texan” on Euclid. A buffet breakfast is available for $6.95. We meet on

the second and fourth Saturday of each month at 8:00 am. Come join the men who meet for Bible study, prayer, and fellowship.

J.O.Y. Group Visits Tiny Apple Orchard October 16, 2013 11:30 AM The J.O.Y. group will take a trip to Tiny’s Apple Orchard on Wednesday, October 16. Bring a sack lunch and meet at church at 11:30 for car pooling. Ice cream, donuts and cider will be available for those who have a sweet tooth. Please mark the welcome card if you plan on attending. We will contact the Orchard on the number of attendees. If it rains we will meet in Harfst Hall for our sack lunch.
