LETTERFROM

THEHEADOFUPPERAND LOWERSCHOOL

After the long doldrums of winter, everyone at school is always anxiously waiting for the next big event to celebrate the school and its community There is nothing better than the Spring Fair at East Woods School. This is a time when the whole community bands together to put on a fabulous fair filled with activities, music, food, and great community bonding experiences From the bistro to the numerous vendors, it is a timeless classic at the school that has been happening for decades. I am always blown away by the level of commitment by the members of our community who come together to put on a great event that has the sole focus of building community and making it a great day for the kids

East Woods School has always prided itself on being nurturing and helping each student reach their full potential With the ages of our students ranging from two years old to fourteen, the fair is a time when the older students volunteer their time to help with kiddie rides and events to further enhance the experience for the younger students I have always been proud of the Upper School students and their desire to help the younger students have a great experience at the fair and in the halls of East Woods School. I hope you all have a wonderful time today, as we embark on this time-honored tradition of the Spring Fair

EWS COMMUNITY SERVICE

Community service is an essential part of the East Woods experience Every year, our students participate in beach cleanups to reduce pollution and maintain the beauty of our shores At this year’s Soup-er Bowl, we collected 750 cans for the Helping Hands Rescue Mission Our school also organized a toy drive, coat drive, and book drive to help those in need. This spring, the students raised money for Water for South Sudan, a charity that provides access to clean, safe drinking water At our first Upper School Open Mic Night, over $1,000 was raised for The Children’s Heart Foundation

A long-standing tradition at East Woods is the Science Symposium, which takes place every February The Symposium is for all Upper School students from fifth through eighth grade The Lower School and ECC also prepare class projects, which are showcased on the bulletin boards in the school hallways. Judges from the Cold Spring Harbor Labs come to the school and get to see the students give their presentations The judges then submit their selections for prizes, first by each grade and then an overall winner. Later that day, students, parents and faculty all come to the school and get to learn about all of the different projects and celebrate the winners.
