Dear East Woods School Community,
Huge thanks to our Dinner Dance Chairs Sandra Coudert Graham, Cynthia Murray, Fern Senior and Perry Tehrani and their incredible committee of parent volunteers on planning an unforgettable and fabulous "Gatsby" evening for our community at Oheka The Dinner Dance is the single most important fundraising event each year and immediately benefits all aspects of East Woods students' experience and learning, from our very youngest two and three year-olds to our soon-to-graduate Class of 2024
Just as Otto Hermann Kahn had a vision for Oheka Castle when he constructed the stunning building and grounds in 1920, the East Woods School mansion was built in 1918, and the school was founded in 1946, by a group of parents who had a specific vision for a school that would provide a great academic program underscored by attention to character and integrity in a close community. But for Oheka, over the years, subsequent owners of the castle and grounds essentially destroyed this great building and gardens It took Gary Melius' dedication, investment, and painstaking attention to detail beginning in 1984 to restore Oheka to Kahn's vision and current beauty East Woods has been luckier Through the years, of course there have been changes in the school's existence; however, in every age of the school's development, there have been core groups of leaders, teachers, Board members, and parents, who have nurtured the school's mission and traditions while ensuring East Woods stayed current with the best in educational practices. As you look around at the guests in this room, understand that we are a part of East Woods right now, and that at this moment in history, our actions will protect and constantly refine our founders' original vision for future generations Thank you for all you do to keep the mission and beauty of East Woods School alive for students now and in the future.

A long-standing tradition at East Woods is the Science Symposium, which takes place every February The Symposium is for all Upper School students from fifth through eighth grade The Lower School and ECC also prepare class projects, which are showcased on the bulletin boards in the school hallways Judges from the Cold Spring Harbor Labs come to the school and get to see the students give their presentations The judges then submit their selections for prizes, first by each grade and then an overall winner Later that day, students, parents and faculty all come to the school and get to learn about all of the different projects and celebrate the winners
