Dear Eastside Catholic Community, We are pleased to share with you the 2017-18 Eastside Catholic School Annual Report.

Without question, the EC community, through its generosity and support, positively impacted the EC experience. The Annual Report highlights many of the stories and milestones made possible by our community this past year.

Eastside Catholic remains focused on promoting the educational, spiritual and physical development of our students. In an ever-changing environment, we worked hard this past year to embrace our traditions and create new opportunities for our students. our faculty and staff were instrumental in fostering an environment where students felt safe and were challenged to be their best selves.

We are humbled by the consistent and varied ways our community bands together to make EC the welcoming and special place that it is. We are grateful to the many individuals and parent groups who organized and attended the 10th Anniversary Celebration of our campus and Middle School, and to those who supported an ambitious and successful effort on behalf of all students—the joy we witnessed during this year’s student-organized Spring Fling was truly heartwarming.

We are also thankful for our alumni who returned to campus to teach, coach or offer advice to seniors, and to the hundreds of community members who supported the auction and our STEAM initiative. our community’s passion for nurturing each student’s unique greatness remains unmatched.

Strong annual giving allowed us to adapt to the changing needs of our students, to constantly improve our programs and to offer the benefits of our school to students who could not otherwise attend. From unrestricted gifts to the Annual Fund to directed gifts to specific programs, these funds

support our touchstones of Academic Excellence, Servant Leadership and Relationships and encourage our students to thrive. We are grateful for each and every contribution.

We hope you enjoy learning about the many ways your commitment to excellence manifested itself at Eastside Catholic School during the 2017-18 school year and look forward to partnering with you to make this school year even stronger.

EC Parent Groups Invest in the

Student Experience We are grateful for the support and spirit of our parent-led and parent-funded organizations. These groups enable us to provide a broader range of programs and events that our students would not otherwise experience. The dedication and creativity of the program leaders and members is truly inspiring. These groups not only work to create and support opportunities unique to their organization—they also worked together this past year to bring new and exciting experiences to our students like the Spring Fling and the 10th anniversary Celebration. here we highlight just a portion of their efforts in 2017-18.

Through your generosity, we were able to fund a comprehensive learning program for faculty and staff that focused on intersectionality. This analytical framework attempts to identify how interlocking systems of power impact those who are most marginalized in society. This ongoing professional development effort has been integral to helping us meet our strategic goal of developing and retaining a diverse and inclusive community.

Following the model of a graduate-level university seminar, faculty and staff members meet regularly in small classes with an expert facilitator to study diverse perspectives on social, cultural, economic and religious issues within american society.

In their groups, the faculty and staff have learned to further appreciate the diversity of human experiences and develop a stronger sense of empathy. They also continue to explore ways to collaborate more effectively across disciplines to enhance our students’ educational experiences and opportunities.

Through this work, our faculty and staff are able to address and adopt new approaches for discussing challenging issues within their curriculum and create a more informed and welcoming classroom environment. Support for this critically important work helps our community to grow in understanding and create well-rounded students who are prepared for an increasingly globalized society.
