AMY SMITH Corrine’s Flowers & Gifts Amy is a native southern Oregonian, residing in East Medford with her husband and two children. Her family is deeply invested in the community and frequently attends community activities, concerts, and sporting events.

For 28 years Amy worked in senior living at the Rogue Valley Manor, but made a career change in 2021 to work for her family’s business, Becker Properties, offering property management and commercial real estate and development services. A

chance encounter at a college dance put Adam and Savannah Fox in the same orbit. Now, the pair are raising five kids in

Southern Oregon and enjoying each day with their full house.

Savannah and Adam’s meet-cute happened while the pair were attending BYU in Provo, Utah. Savannah explains she was the president of her freshman dorm Residence Hall Association (RHA), which put on a formal dance. “During the actual event, I took a break from dancing to make sure there was still sufficient food and drinks, and saw my friend from RHA, Genie, sitting near the food chatting with some people,” Savannah says. “When I went to say hi to Genie, she introduced me to her friend from back home in Arkansas: Adam. We chatted for a few minutes before parting ways, and I thought there was a connection there.” But later, Savannah saw Adam going into the dance with another girl, so she figured the attraction was one-sided. Genie cleared up the confusion– Adam told Genie he was very interested in Savannah and had asked for her number!

Later that week, Adam asked Savannah out on a date. The rest, as they say, is history!

Savannah is a Medford native, and after she and Adam finished college, they came to Medford to be near her family.

The Foxes eventually made it their home before moving away for several years to attend dental school and do a residency program. They landed back in Medford in 2016. Adam owns and operates Fox Dental and is a family dentist at the practice, and Savannah is a stay-at-home mom to the couple’s five kids. Their kids vary in ages and interests but share many commonalities. “They all love reading and books and spend a lot of their free time in books,” Savannah and Adam. “They are all friendly and outgoing and make friends wherever they go and are never shy or reserved! They all love school and learning.”

The oldest in their crew is 14-year-old Denali, whom they say is the quintessential oldest daughter. Savannah and Adam describe Denali as mature, responsible, and dependable. “She is very trustworthy, easy to get along with, and a good friend,” they say.

“She’s definitely an old soul.” Her favorite activities include volleyball, basketball, track, swimming, playing piano, acting, and singing in the choir. Second in the Fox sibling lineup is Carter, who is 12 years old.

He’s the only boy in the family and leans into this unique role. “He is fun loving and has an intensity to his personality,” his parents explain. “He is very active and especially loves soccer and running but is also very talented in music and plays several instruments.”

Carter’s top extracurriculars include choir, soccer, piano, cross country, and track. The middle child of the quintet is 9-year-old Piper. Her parents say she loves being silly and funny. “She is very friendly and doesn’t mind being in the spotlight,” they describe.

“She is a great friend and loves to give people gifts.” Piper enjoys soccer and ballet and often helps out in ballet classes for younger kids. Choir and basketball are two other activities she’s keen on.

Next up in birth order is Miley. This 8-year-old is described as a sweetheart who loves helping others and making them happy. “She is generally easy-going and good-natured, but if she has an opinion on something she won’t be swayed from it!” Miley spends time playing soccer and practicing ballet, and she also loves hanging out with her sisters. The most recent addition to the Fox family is 4-year-old Liza. “Liza is the baby of the family and knows it, and she uses it to her advantage,” the Foxes say. “She is funny and feisty and always busy doing something.” Liza revels in being part of a big family—she doesn’t like to be alone and wants to be a part of the action at all times. Her parents add that Liza is interested in doing everything her older siblings do.

As a family, the Foxes enjoy a host of activities. They especially like swimming, hiking, playing games, watching movies, exploring, and going on trips (especially to Disneyland!). “On a typical Saturday night, you can find us eating pizza and playing a game or watching a movie together during the cold months,” the family explains. “In the summer, we like hosting swimming and dinner!”

As members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, they’re deeply connected to the community as they serve others and bring joy to their friends and neighbors.

Looking to the future, the seven-member Fox family is excited to see what adventures are on the horizon for their boisterous and loving crew.

Carly Sue and Dobby

eet Carly Sue and Dobby of Farwood! In the quiet countryside, their wagging tails

and contented barks echo a bond forged amidst the vast beauty of Oregon’s farmland. Whether chasing the rustle of leaves or basking in the warmth of golden afternoons, these two dogs bring a delightful energy to the scenic beauty of Southern Oregon’s rolling hills, and weave their own tale of canine charm.

The lovely Pembroke Corgis live on a small ranch in Sams Valley and are pretty much in charge of all of the animals! They also supervise their owner, Penny Barreras, very closely.

Carly Sue is a tri-color, spayed female born on May 11, 2016. She is significantly smaller than Dobby, but has a very big attitude and likes to be in charge of everything. She also makes ugly faces and growls when she’s playing–but doesn’t mean it! She was bred locally in the Medford area.

Dobby is blonde and very large, his date of birth was December 23, 2019, and he is a neutered male. Penny fell in love immediately after a friend sent her a picture while she was out of the country.

She picked up Dobby in the Salem area right before the Covid shutdown happened.

The family lives harmoniously and often travels together, as the dogs are very easy to be around. Penny says, “They just want to please people and get along.”

Both Carly Sue and Dobby are extremely friendly, and enjoy meeting other people and animals. Dobby even loves baby humans and baby animals. Carly Sue takes a moment to warm up to other animals, but

Penny says the hardest part for her is when she travels without them. “Hopefully they are happy while I am gone, but I miss them terribly. They are wonderful to come home to.”

What eight-year-old wouldn’t love the idea of being master of the house?

Lucas loves cheeseburgers from In-N-Out. He is glad that it comes already made for him and he doesn’t have to hunt for his food like a lion, his favorite animal, does! All kids dream of having a super power: Lucas would choose invisibility. However, Lucas already has a super power. He likes being kind and loves his family and friends, which in a world where kindness is becoming obsolete, kindness is definitely a superpower.

If Lucas could go anywhere in the world, he would choose to go to Alaska. With his kind and hardworking personality, Lucas’ dream to visit Alaska can someday become a reality.

When you put your mind to it, you can accomplish anything, and that’s what Lucas does best.

incredible things, and find much success in his lifetime. What is the key to Lucas’ rise to success? At a young age, Lucas understands that greatness requires hard work.

Lucas works hard at school. He is a third-grader at Abraham Lincoln Elementary and his favorite subject is math. He is learning to play the guitar in music class and wants to keep learning and progressing in his guitar playing.

Lucas works hard at play. He is very involved in sports and has been playing baseball for four years, basketball for two years, golf for one year, and football for one year. Lucas says the hardest thing about playing football is trying to tackle, but he knows that if he works hard and gives it all he has, it will pay off. Lucas aspires to be a professional athlete, particularly a football player. Lucas’ favorite sports teams are the Chargers, Blazers, and Dodgers and he looks up to Damien Lillard and Travis Kelce.

Lucas works hard at home. He has three pets to take care of; Isabelle, the 12-year-old cat, Jack, the 11-year-old cat, and Diesel, the three-year-old dog.

Lucas also maintains his relationship with his family by spending time with them. Lucas has fond memories of going to Blazers games, and vacation wouldn’t be the same without a game at Dodger Stadium. Family time at home is spent Your Local Community Magazine

Lucas enjoys hunting, especially shed hunting.

Amid all of Lucas’ hard work, he still has time to enjoy childhood. Lucas decompresses after a day of school and sports by playing video games. He enjoys movies and music, too. His favorite song is “Right Foot Creep” (the clean version) and his favorite movie is Home Alone.

Soft Batch Gingerbread M&M Cookies

No-Bake Chocolate Peanut Butter Crispy Balls

Ingredients

• 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg

• 24 oz Chocolate Almond Bark

• 1-1/2 tsp ground cinnamon

• 2 ounces shortening

• 1-1/2 tsp ground ginger • 1 tsp baking soda

Directions

• 2-3/4 cups all purpose flour

1. Melt butter and, while hot, stir in peanut butter.

• 2 cups M&Ms

2. Mix well and add vanilla, powdered sugar, and Rice Krispies.
