East 52 VFD 2022 Donation Letter & Newsletter

Dear resident, On the behalf of East 52 Volunteer Fire Department, we would like to express our appreciation for the continued support from our community over the years. The attached newsletter outlines our activities for 2021.

We strive to provide the best service possible to our community, utilizing our resources at the fullest extent. We pride ourselves in our members, who are 100% volunteer. We are a 501(c)(3) charity, and receive $2,500 funding yearly from local government. The remainder of our operating expenses must be raised through fundraisers, donations, and grants. This year, we were faced with expensive repairs to our tanker and our engine, and both apparatus are crucial to our department operations. If it is within your means, we are asking for a donation to aid us in our operating expenses. East 52 VFD Newsletter In 2021, East 52 VFD volunteers logged 3,481 volunteer hours during our weekly training and meet-up’s. Our volunteers worked hard on a project to improve our ISO rating, and effective November 1, 2021 our new rating is 5/5x. The lower the score the better, and our previous score was 6/9. We were also able to resume many of our regular fundraisers. In addition, we continued our work in receiving grants for equipment and fire education gear, as outlined below.

Turbo Replacement : $4,848.18 2021 Grant Activity

● We have had a challenging year in terms of maintaining aging fire trucks.

First, our fire tanker required expensive maintenance, and we feel that it needs to be replaced as soon as possible. In addition, we had to replace the turbo in our fire engine, costing us $4,848.18. Unfortunately, it is nearly impossible for us to locate a grant that will assist us with our aging fire trucks, and we do not get the run volume required to

Free Smoke Detectors Available

East 52 VFD is part of the Get Alarmed TN! Program. With this program, the State Fire Marshal's office provides the department with free smoke detectors to provide to the community. We are tasked to install the detectors in homes and provide safety information to residents. This program has saved 324 lives state-wide since it began in 2012.

Our department has installed over 60 detectors in the community since we began participating in the program.

Horse Creek Marina Fire

Christmas Day Fire

On January 6, 2022, East 52 VFD was paged to a houseboat fire at Horse Creek Marina. Upon arrival, the houseboat was half-way engulfed and was unhooked from the dock. Water was sprayed from the open hull fire boat and the engine to extinguish the fire.

There was damage to a few other boats, but thankfully the fire did not spread to the dock or other boats and no one was hurt or injured.

East 52 VFD, along with Celina VFD responded to a house fire on Christmas day, 2021. Although it was a huge loss for the family, it could have been much more devastating if not for the smart thinking of the residents. Because the door was closed to the room for which the fire started, the fire did not spread to other rooms.

While they have a lot of repairs and clean-up to do, the results could have been much worse.

Remember: Close the bedroom door when sleeping, if possible.

Also, close doors behind you when escaping a room or building that's on fire.

Community Outreach

We would like to thank the Horse Creek employees and boat owners that took quick action to help to keep this from becoming a much larger disaster.

Rope Rescue Efforts In 2021, we responded to several calls that required us to go over steep embankments to rescue victims and retrieve animals. We are looking to secure further funding for our rope rescue efforts to ensure that we are fully equipped and trained.

We received a $5,000 grant from State Farm to help us begin getting equipped, but we will need further funding to ensure that we can get trained on rope rescue skills.

East 52 VFD visited the nursing students at the high school to teach them fire safety. We also participated in the Health and Safety Day at the fairgrounds, the Christmas parade, and Halloween on the Celina square. We handed out safety materials door-to-door and at the Standing Stone State Park car show. We, along with Timothy VFD, visited the residents of The Pointe this summer to tell them about our departments and provide them with fire safety information.
