Jamie Okuma (b. 1977) an enrolled member of the La Jolla Band of Mission Indians with Shoshone-Bannock, Wailaki, Luiseño, and Okinawan heritage, is a multidisciplinary artist and designer celebrated for her elaborate soft sculptures, intricate beadwork, and wearable art. In 2000, at just 22, Okuma became the youngest artist to win “Best of Show” at the Santa Fe Indian Art Market, establishing her prominence in the art world. Her practice naturally expanded into culturally informed fashion, where she designs couture and ready-to-wear collections, as well as adorned accessories and shoes. In 2023, Okuma made history as the first Native American designer admitted to the Council of Fashion Designers of America.

Celebrate the season with handmade American Indian ornaments in a vibrant range of styles and mediums at the Heard Museum Shop’s Annual Ornament Marketplace. Meet the artists and discover pieces that will make your holiday gifts and décor as meaningful as the moments you share with your loved ones.
This year’s signature ornament by Sampson Gray (Navajo), features a Sun Face design, a symbol of warmth, life, and harmony. These sterling silver ornaments are available in a limited edition of 40, each signed and numbered by the artist.
The 2025 Signature ornament will go on sale at 10 a.m. on the first day of Ornament Marketplace, Friday, Nov. 28 for $195 each in-store and online.*

Enjoy live performances from Eric Hernandez (Lumbee), Grammy®-nominee Aaron White (Northern Ute/Diné), Sydney Marian (Diné) Chi’Chino Spirit O’odham Dance Group, hands-on family activities, and, of course, time to explore the incredible exhibitions currently on view. Monday, Dec. 29 will focus on weaving through the lens of the story, The Goat in the Rug. Come for story time, crafts, and to meet some adorable goat friends!

Corn Boy Ka’e Katsina Doll

Kerry David was awarded Best of Show at the 2025 Katsina Doll Marketplace. This katsina is carved in the contemporary style from traditional cottonwood root, combining cultural tradition and modern expression. The “Corn Boy” figure embodies Hopi prayers for growth and abundance.
