A look ahead to all of our residential trips
We are delighted to share with you this booklet outlining the residential trips planned for our pupils over the next four years.
Each experience has been carefully chosen to support our educational aims, build confidence and independence, and broaden students’ understanding of the world around them
We appreciate that residentials can be a significant financial commitment, so we have included approximate costs for each trip to help families plan ahead
We hope this guide provides clarity and reassurance as you look towards the years to come, and we look forward to the many exciting adventures ahead.
The below trips are open to all children in the relevant year groups, but please be aware that apart from Golden Eagle Week, all trips have a maximum number of places and will be subject to a first come first served basis once a deposit has been paid.
Academic year overview
Year 8 – Belgium: Exploring the Legacy of the First World War
Annual trip - October 2026, 2027, 2028
Duration - 2 nights
As part of the Year 8 History curriculum at Wellington College Prep, pupils explore the origins, experiences, and lasting impact of the First World War. They examine how the conflict began, what life was like for those who lived and fought through it, and how its consequences shaped the rest of the 20th century In English, pupils deepen this understanding through a study of First World War poetry, giving voice to the human stories behind the history
To bring this learning vividly to life, pupils have the opportunity to visit Belgium, the heart of the Western Front During the trip, they will:
Take part in the moving Service of Remembrance at the Menin Gate in Ypres
Visit both British and German military cemeteries, reflecting on the shared experiences and sacrifices of soldiers on both sides
Explore a reconstructed trench, gaining a powerful sense of what daily life was like for those on the front line
Discover museums and historical sites that help them connect the past to their classroom studies

This memorable trip offers pupils a meaningful, first-hand understanding of the Great War and the importance of remembrance.

Year 7 and 8 – European Sports Tour – Boys Football, Girls Hockey
Biannual Trip – October half term 2026, 2028
Duration - 5 nights
The highlight of our sporting calendar is always the sports tour, a memorable experience that combines competition, teamwork, and adventure. This exciting trip gives pupils the opportunity to represent the school in matches against international teams, developing both their sporting ability and confidence.
Next year, we are delighted to announce that our destination will be Holland, but in previous years we have gone to Spain Over the course of the tour, pupils will take part in a carefully planned mix of training sessions, competitive fixtures, and cultural excursions They will have the chance to train with professional coaches, test their skills against local Dutch teams, and explore the landmarks of the region
Beyond the sport itself, the tour aims to build independence, resilience, and lasting friendships, creating memories that our pupils will treasure long after the final whistle

Year 5 and 6 – Ski Trip to the French Alps
Biannual Trip – December 2026, 2028
Duration - 6 nights
We are excited to announce that this year’s Year 5 and 6 residential trip will be a six-night ski adventure to Isola 2000, a stunning resort set in the southern French Alps, less than 60 miles from Nice. This trip offers pupils a wonderful opportunity to experience the thrill of skiing while enjoying the breathtaking mountain scenery of France.
The resort provides excellent facilities for both beginners and intermediate skiers, with professional instructors on hand to guide pupils through daily lessons and help them develop new skills on the slopes. Alongside the skiing, pupils will enjoy a range of evening activities and cultural experiences, making for a well-rounded and unforgettable trip.
Looking ahead, we are delighted to share that the following year we plan to take Year 7 and 8 on their own ski adventure.

Year 7 and 8 – Ski Trip (location TBC)
Biannual Trip – December 2027, 2029
Duration - 6 nights
Our ski trip offers pupils an exciting opportunity to develop new skills, build confidence, and enjoy time together in a stunning mountain setting. Whether they are beginners or experienced skiers, students will be supported by qualified instructors and staff, ensuring a safe, fun, and enriching experience. Beyond the slopes, the trip includes evening activities and plenty of chances to relax and socialise, helping to strengthen friendships and create memories that will last long after we return home.

Year 6 and 7 – MFL, Cultural Tour – Paris
Biannual Trip – March 2026, 2028
Duration - 2 nights
The Paris trip is an unforgettable cultural experience designed to bring classroom learning to life. Over the course of the visit, pupils will have the chance to explore some of the city’s most iconic landmarks while immersing themselves in French language, history, and culture.
Highlights of the trip include a crêpe-making workshop hosted by local chefs, where pupils can try their hand at creating this classic French delicacy; a visit to the world-renowned Louvre Museum, home to masterpieces such as the Mona Lisa and the Venus de Milo; and lunch in Montmartre, offering aweinspiring views from the Sacré-Cœur and the chance to watch talented artists and caricaturists at work in the charming Place du Tertre.
The itinerary also features a trip to the Montparnasse Tower, where pupils can take in breathtaking views across Paris, including the Eiffel Tower, and a morning river cruise on the Seine, providing a relaxing and scenic perspective of the city’s most famous sights.
This trip promises to be a fantastic blend of culture, education, and fun an experience the pupils will remember for years to come.

Year 7 and
8 – Cultural Tour – China
Biannual Trip – Easter 2027, 2029
Duration - 7 nights
In April 2027, our Year 7 and 8 pupils will have the incredible opportunity to embark on a cultural trip to China, offering a truly unforgettable global experience. The visit will begin in Shanghai, where pupils will spend time at the Wellington Schools, taking part in a full day of activities alongside local students, an exciting chance to build international friendships and experience school life in a different culture.
A visit to Shanghai Disneyland will undoubtedly be one of the highlights of the trip, giving pupils the chance to enjoy world-class attractions and entertainment. From Shanghai, we will travel to Nantong, where pupils will stay in Wellington College Nantong’s boarding house and explore a range of local cultural sites, gaining a deeper understanding of China’s rich history and traditions.
The trip will conclude with a night-time boat cruise along the Bund, offering spectacular views of Shanghai’s illuminated skyline, a magical way to round off an unforgettable journey.

Golden Eagle Week - Compulsory Curriculum Trips
Annual Trip – June each year

Each year, pupils across the school take part in our much-anticipated Golden Eagle Week, a series of compulsory curriculum trips designed to enrich learning beyond the classroom These experiences encourage independence, teamwork, resilience, and a strong sense of character education, helping pupils develop qualities such as responsibility, perseverance, and leadership while making lasting memories with their peers
This year’s destinations are as follows:
Year 8 – Aberdovey, North Wales (4 nights)
Year 7 – Pembrokeshire Coast, Wales (4 nights)
Year 6 – Treharris, Wales (4 nights)
Year 5 – Mendip Hills (4 nights)
Year 4 – Oakwood, Crowthorne (2 nights)
Year 3 – Dinton Pastures day trips plus 1 night in the WCP Boarding House

Each trip is thoughtfully planned to provide age-appropriate challenges and experiences, from outdoor adventures and team-building activities to exploring the natural environment, all with a focus on building character, resilience, and self-confidence. Golden Eagle Week remains one of the highlights of the academic year, offering pupils the chance to grow both personally and socially, while enjoying the joy of learning beyond the classroom walls.
