Our intention is to make you aware of such a common mistake we do unknowingly and try to avoid it in our daily practice. So let’s get started with the first one now, which is the colour.

The Right Colour: You would have noticed many times that the pictures you are taking are not having the right colour. As a freelance photographer in Dubai, we have worked with many photographers and seen that it happens many times when we keep our camera on auto settings and forget to adjust the white balance according to the light we are shooting in. in this case, the camera decides automatically the white balance based on the subject and sometimes it cannot decide the right white balance resulting in the improper colour settings for the subject. As a freelance photographer in Dubai, we have used different cameras and we know that there is an option available in every DSLR camera settings, for adjusting the White Balance. So how would I know which white balance setting I should use? It is very simple.

• DayLight: If you are shooting in sunlight then please select the setting as daylight. It is generally depicted as the Sun. • Shed: If you are in daylight but the subject is under a shed then you should select this option it generally appears like a home with a shed on one side.

• Cloudy: Its outdoor shooting and the weather is cloudy then you are in daylight but it is not so bright and having some dark sheds on the subject but surroundings do not seem that dark as the subject. In this case, you should be selecting this option, which is having an icon as a cloud.

• White fluorescent light: if you are shooting indoor in white fluorescent light then you should set your camera accordingly. It is showed as a small rectangle bar emitting light.

• Yellow light or tungsten light: This light is of a normal bulb with a tungsten filament. Under this light or similar light of yellow halogen light, you should set your camera for this light. The icon of this setting is generally displayed as a bulb emitting light.

The latest cameras may have other modes and setting options so study your camera manual well and then it is always better for you to take

your camera and start experimenting with it. Click photographs in different white balance settings and observe the difference in colour and brightness.
