What is your go-to Music?
For sure, Classic Rock. To name a few: Def Leppard, Bob Seger, Journey, The Cars...80s on 8 is a steady in my car.
Your go-to type of Movie?
I'm not really a movie guy. I guess I can't sit still for 2 hours. Sports are on in my house all of the time.
Your go-to Food?
Mexican mostly, and a good steak sure tastes good every so often
What is your go-to Snack?
Unfortunately, I'm a candy addict. Skittles and Swedish Fish do the trick for me.
Where did you grow up?
New Richmond, WI, about an hour from St. Paul, MN
Tell us about your family.
-Are you married, and do you have any children?
Married to my wife of 29 years, Jamie. I have two sons, Tanner (26) and Parker (24). Where have the years gone?
What is the best part of your game?
My iron game is generally my strong suit.
What is your best round of Golf?
63 at the Creek Club (private club at Reynolds Plantation). It was the second 18 holes of the day before heading to the airport, returning to Pittsburgh. I hadn't slept really well the previous night and did not want to play. Oh well, I got the round started and shot 30 on the back nine on fumes. Go figure.
If you could play one round of golf with any three people (alive or deceased), who would it be with?
I would have to go with Tiger, Rory, and Jack Nicklaus. I play with my sons a lot of rounds, and I did with my dad a lot before he passed.
Can you name two of your favorite golf courses that you've played, and what makes them unique to you?
I have been blessed to play numerous great courses. Playing and working in the New Jersey and Met Sections (by far the best courses per capita...not even close), I was able to play Pine Valley twice. The mystique of Pine Valley says it all. Muirfield Village for the beauty and a Jack Nicklaus design as well. What initially drew you to the game of Golf, and how did you get started?
My father introduced me to the game at age 8. I fell in love immediately. I grew up at a 9-hole public course. I think the staff there got sick of me being there every day in the summers. I began working in the clubhouse, cleaning bathrooms and clubs, before a promotion to bartending and taking in green/cart fees. From then on, I just knew I wanted to work in the golf industry.
Please give us some insight into your prior positions. Head Pro at Williams Country Club for 19 years and 7 years at Southpointe Golf Club.
What made you decide to pursue a career in the PGA of America, and how long have you been a PGA member?
Enrolled at Ferris State in 1982, and from then on, I was off the "races". Three internships and then my first-ever assistant job at Plainfield CC (NJ) cemented my career choice. I have been a member of the PGA since 1988.
Talk about being a PGA of America member, what it means, and having PGA after your name.
Having the PGA member title beside my name means I am an expert in the golf industry. These days, it motivates me every day to be the best instructor I can be. As all of us know, it is a love of the game that keeps us grinding away on a day-to-day basis. Further, being a PGA member solidifies me as a leader in the lifelong game that I love.
