This is a testimony to the goodness of God Who is the author and finisher of all that is unfolding in each issue of the magazine. We are publishing the third issue.
Over a thirty day period, there is so much happening that is worth sharing; and not only is the present worth sharing, so too is our reflection of the past. It is always important for me to reflect on the past and remember where and how it all started. With a grateful heart I offer praise to God for His faithfulness.

MESSAGE FROM THE PUBLISHER Every issue of Singled Out Magazine gives a new wave of excitement in my heart. I am encouraged by the widespread readership each month as I pound away at sharing the publication online, and enjoy the support of so many others who help to spread the good news with others. Then there is the unwavering support of the women who believe whole heartedly in the vision of our magazine project; their fervent prayers are fuel for this fire. I can't say enough thank you. Singled Out Magazine is read by readers from all over the world; they know that our base is in Jamaica, and we are privileged to be able to share with them the richness of our experiences and culture. The month of November is celebrated as Parents' Month in Jamaica. It's a time we set to recognize, celebrate, inspire and empower parents. The role of a parent is so important and we never want to take for granted the great value that parents give to the life experience. In the November issue of Singled Out Magazine, you will hear from the mothers who are extremely supportive of their daughters' call to purpose. Also you will meet mothers who share their personal tips for parenting with God at the helm. If you are a parent, you will be encouraged and inspired to believe that all good efforts have great rewards. We are delighted to be able to recognize some young women; High School students who excelled in the recent CSEC Examinations (Caribbean External Assessment for High School Students). Their academic accomplishments are worth celebrating, especially considering that the Global Pandemic of COVID-19 interrupted their studies. There is much in store in this issue; we are so grateful that you will take the time to indulge. Thanks a Million!!!

How It All Started MEET THE
CHARACTERS
The Introduction
WITH: SHAMELIA SIMPSON-MCKENZIE Do you know that one unforgettable moment that sets something in motion that you cannot come back from? I know that you do. The idea of this magazine began with one of those moments. As often as I can, I am compelled to look back and reflect on HOW IT ALL BEGAN. This is one of those moments, especially because you, as a reader have joined this journey. I believe that it is extremely important that you have inside knowledge of how this idea came to be a reality so you are able to follow the progress and even play a role. Looking back matters; this concept is actually an ancient teaching, It is called “Sankofa; it is a metaphorical symbol used by the Akan people of Ghana, generally depicted as a bird with its head turned backward taking an egg from its back. It expresses the importance of reaching back to knowledge gained in the past and bringing it into the present in order to make positive progress. (Source: )Sankofa.org The vision of Singled Out Magazine began long before even I knew it did; the idea was in the mind of the Creator. It was a matter of time before it would be revealed and later manifested; in between that it was about asking and seeking. In the next article, HOW IT ALL STARTED , you will meet the three women (including myself) who were together on the day that unforgettable moment occurred... it was April 9. Now, fifteen years later we all are able to "go back and get it" (all the knowledge we have gained) and "make positive progress".
Meet Elaine, Shamelia & Ineke
PAGE 10| SINGLED OUT MAGAZINE
HOW IT ALL STARTED ELAINE SHARES HER STORY Thinking it all ended at the age of eighteen, I soon learned that parenting an adult child was a whole new ball game. I often wondered if I had done all that I needed to in parenting my daughter during her formative years. While her reality at that time was not all that bad, what concerned me most was that dream I had. In the year 2000, I began to see life from a different perspective. I had learned that nothing could be left to chance...seeking God's counsel was essential. In the year 2000, I had come to understand the importance of being prayerful. I share these stories to encourage mothers of the hope that they have in trusting God with everything that concern their children. By the time the story would begin, it is March in the year, 2005. One morning, I had an unpleasant dream about my daughter, Shamelia. I prayed for revelation, and by April, I was lead to take a trip to visit her in New York where she lived at the time. I had no idea what would happen, all I knew, I made the decision to walk in faith and obedience.
One thing I remember is that by the time it ended, both Shamelia and Ineke had an encounter with the Holy Spirit that was a life-changing moment. Little did I know that it was the day that their journey to wholeness would begin, and their lives would never again be the same. I remained with them for four months, sharing the Scriptures and encouraging them in their faith. They both were growing in the knowledge of God; and soon began hearing the voice of God.
I arrived in New York on April 8 and was picked up by my daughter, Shamelia and her friend Ineke; they were best friends since high school and had been sharing an apartment.
Fifteen years later, it now makes sense. It was all part of God's plan to lead them both into their life purpose. Today; this magazine is all part of what they were preparing for; they were Singled Out by God.
How it started, the next morning, I invited the girls to join me in morning devotion. I remember them being quite excited to join me.
They now have the opportunity to support other women who are on their own Singled Out journeys. PAGE 11| SINGLED OUT MAGAZINE
HOW IT ALL STARTED SHAMELIA SHARES HER STORY
All glory, honour and praise belong to God; Who is the author of the story of which I share.
The Bible teaches that God does not change; I have come to learn that this is an unchanging truth. I also know that God is still active in the earth; He is doing mighty things. I know that this project is one of the many things that God is doing. I encourage that we be attentive to what is unfolding, and seek God for revelation knowledge of His inspired activities. My mother Elaine shared the story about As time passes the details will be the dream she had about me, of her shared, but there is not much time visit to New York, where I was living, and today. her invitation to Ineke and I to join in her devotional exercise. All in all, how it really started was: An unpleasant dream Talk about the moment that takes your A mother's prayer and proactivity breath away; for me, and I know for God's intervention Ineke too, it was that moment. There A call to pursue purpose. began what I call our Transformational Journey. After fifteen years of staying the course, For me, it was almost as if I entered into a new dimension of myself. Possibly similar to the Apostle Paul's experience on the Damascus Road. It seemed that at that moment I was able to see; definitely from a different perspective. The stories between now and then are many; some happy moments and some not so much; all in all, they are inspiring and will benefit other women who will hear that call and dare to answer. PAGE 12| SINGLED OUT MAGAZINE
the result is God's faithfulness to bring to pass the plans He has for me and by extension for many other women who will be impacted by the vision in progress. The Singled Out Magazine project is one aspect of the purpose to which we all have been called. I am grateful to God for choosing us, and extending His hand to lead us on the path of purpose. The Most High is worthy of all praise!!!
HOW IT ALL STARTED INEKE SHARES HER STORY After 15 years of being best friends, Shamelia and I were sharing an apartment in New York City in 2005. After picking up her mom, Elaine at the airport on the Friday evening on April 8; that Saturday morning devotion was a gateway to an unexpected experience. The encounter was so intense it brought tears to my eyes not because I was in pain but because a transition was taking place within the very core of my soul. The beginning of this journey was a bit different for me than for Shamelia. I was raised to believe in God but attending Church was not a practice in my family. When I heard Elaine talk about God the way she, it made me curious to learn more about the God she shared such a unique relationship with. Along the way, there were joys and peace; there were also moments of uncertainty, of sadness and definitely moments of anger. Choosing to live God's way meant walking away from things that I once held dear and clinging even more to Him and in some ways the letting go hurt. I remember at some point, the journey for me was exciting, exhilarating and packed with what I considered then great adventures; much like some of the characters in the Bible.
I truly didn't know what to expect but I knew the feeling I was having was like no other, and it was enough for me. Then seemingly the sensational feeling wore off, and I realized that saying yes to God didn't mean life was all rose colored and issue free. In fact it would take real work, real commitment, real dedication and real diving into the Word of God in order to build a real and meaningful relationship with God. As I look back and reflect on my present relationship with God, I have come to realize that without those moments of happiness, sadness, confusion and joy; I would not be where and who I am today. I have become a better version of myself I am eternally grateful for the journey and the privilege to be Singled Out by the Creator of the Universe. PAGE 13| SINGLED OUT MAGAZINE

THE LOVE OF A GODLY MOTHER Trusting God with the Life of Her Child
by Shamelia Simpson-McKenzie
Elaine Simpson is my mother; a woman of faith and perseverance. Her prayers and unwavering support has helped to make the vision of Singled Out Magazine a reality.
She is the leading character in the story and as her daughter, I celebrate her. November is Parents' Month, in this issue of Singled Out Magazine I am honouring my mother. She has a platform to encourage other mothers as they parent their children.
In her article: Learning to Let Go, Elaine Simpson encourages mothers to freely release the lives of their children into God's capable hands PAGE 16| SINGLED OUT MAGAZINE
LEARNING TO LET GO Trusting God with the Life of Your Child
As we celebrate Parents' Month in November, I pause to honour the mothers who are so deliberate in nurturing your children with the hope that your best efforts will be enough and life will be kind to your precious ones.
WITH ELAINE SIMPSON Time has been kind to me; as the years have passed, I have learned so much about parenting with the help of God. What I believed were lost opportunities during the earlier years of my motherhood journey, I now am able to redeem as I

God knows you and your children by name and nature; He is aware of all your needs and cares. In the Bible we are encouraged to: "Cast all your cares upon Him (God), for He cares for you." (1 Peter 5:7).
I learned from my own parenting journey that if I ask God for help, He will help me. I encourage you too to trust God with the life of your children; pray without ceasing, have faith in His love for you, and open

On Children Kahlil Gibran Your children are not your children. They are the sons and daughters of Life's longing for itself. They come through you but not from you, And though they are with you yet they belong not to you. You may give them your love but not your thoughts, For they have their own thoughts. You may house their bodies but not their souls, For their souls dwell in the house of tomorrow, Which you cannot visit, not even in your dreams. You may strive to be like them, But seek not to make them like you. For life goes not backward nor tarries with yesterday. You are the bows from which your children As living arrows are sent forth. The archer sees the mark upon the path of the infinite, And He bends you with His might That His arrows may go swift and far. Let your bending in the archer's hand be for gladness; For even as He loves the arrow that flies, So He loves also the bow that is stable. The Poem above: On Children is the work of Kahlil Gibran, the author of the book, The Prophet. Kahlil Gibran, was a Lebanese-American writer, poet and visual artist, also considered a philosopher although he himself rejected the title. Through Thick and Thins by: Sheena Murray Sheena Murray is an amazing woman whose faith and unwavering support has contributed to making the vision of Singled Out Magazine a reality.
The story of how it all happened is one that will unfold over the course of the magazine's publishing.
In celebrating Parents' Month, Singled Out Magazine is recognizing Sheena as a model parent who I deeply admire. She is my second mother, and I am so excited to have her share her story in this issue.
In her article; Through Thick and Thins, Sheena Murray shares some

life to ultimately nurture and guide the designed footsteps of another human being toward the fulfilment of their purpose.
This is my perspective now, but it wasn't always the case. When I conceived my first child I was overjoyed! I was 'madly' in love with my boyfriend - now my husband - who was a loving, kind, caring person and still is. My thought was: What could go wrong?
Having the money to raise our child was the farthest thing from our thoughts! Then, reality and panic hit. The question in our minds was:" are we really ready for this"? The other worry was: if my mom would throw me out? Because, you see, even though we had both finished high school, we still lived with our parents, and we had no permanent jobs.
But God had a plan for us; it took the support of our village - our parents, family and friends to cushion us in those early years. When we went to work, there were more than enough hands to care for our new baby girl- Ineke is her name.

Through my daughter's transformational journey I've become more spiritual, relying more on God and less on myself. I'm more at peace when things do not go as I expect them to because I know everything has a purpose and that regardless of how challenging or confusing situations may appear to be, that too shall pass as God always has my back.
Being a mother to an adult child is an adventure of its own. The needs your children have at that stage of their lives differ from when they depend totally on you. REVELATION OF THE PLAN So here is what I found: "For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. (Jeremiah 29:11)

LIVING A LIFE THAT MATTERS
As for me, I fell instantly in love with the passage; the question I had in my mind was answered. This became my favourite Bible passage ever.
So what did I learn? I discovered that God had a plan for me;
surely, He has one for you too, What else? I no longer had to worry
about what I was to do with myself, how I was to use my time. All I needed to do was to ask God to reveal His plans for me.
I did, and He was kind enough to share His plans with me. Soon I became better at knowing what to do, and how to do it. I made it a daily habit to simply ask God: what would you have me to do today? I know that it may sound a bit weird, but its just that, and it's Scriptural too: "Ask and you shall receive; seek and you shall find. Knock and the door will be opened... (St. Matthew 7:7)
You should know that God had a plan for you; it's a plan to prosper you and give you a bright future. Believe that with all your heart and then prayerfully seek God for that great plan. You will be excited about what He has in store for you.

YOU'RE GIVEN THIS LIFE BECAUSE YOU'RE STRONG ENOUGH TO LIVE IT.
WHAT TO DO WITH THE PLAN Stay with me darling; remember now, we are talking about: "LIVING A LIFE THAT MATTERS". Earlier, I mentioned that this possibility hinges on FAITH. It requires believing in God's love and goodness. We also talked about the GREAT PLANS that God has for you according to Jeremiah 29:11.
Now let's say that you earnestly seek God for the revelation of His plans for you, and you get insight into what those plans are; what then do you do?
This is where your attention and commitment will be required. it will be necessary to take great care to focus on the plan so that they can come to pass. Some effective ways to do this are:
How to Pursue God's Plans for You Write down what God reveals to you
LIVING A LIFE THAT MATTERS
Pray for clarity about the plans you see in your mind's eye Daily seek God to instruct you what to do in preparing for the fulfillment of His plans for you. Read the Scriptures daily; there is usually instructions, directions and revelation in the Word of God. Invest in a journal; write in it daily. Use it to write prayers, express your thought, and ideas that come to your mind. If I know nothing else, I know this one thing: God is faithful to do what He promises to do. His plans for you are guaranteed to be successful; but you have a part to play. PAGE 34| SINGLED OUT MAGAZINE

FULFILLING YOUR HEART'S DESIRE When God reveals His plans for you, what you will also learn is that they are actually the desires of your heart. Oftentimes we cannot find the words to express what we feel in our hearts. God created you and I; He knows us best, and He is very aware of what is best for us all, and
If you are curious about God's plan for you, I encourage you to ask Him. I guarantee that when you discover those plans and pursue them you will have a sense of fulfillment that you never imagined.
LIVING A LIFE THAT MATTERS involves doing things in a certain way. In seeking God's counsel and direction, you will experience a sense of peace and fulfillment; and why? Because you will have God's blessings and favour to accomplish what is His good and perfect will for you.
Why How You Live Your Life Matters God created you for GREATNESS; anything else is unacceptable. TIME is the MASTER; how you use your time will determine what aspects of the plans are realized and when. The promise of peace involves you discovering why you were born, and what you are to do - GOD'S PLAN FOR YOU. Your ETERNITY is dependent on your PURPOSE. Your PURPOSE is revealed when you DISCOVER God's PLANS for YOU. PAGE 35| SINGLED OUT MAGAZINE

PARENTING

BY SHALLIAN LEWIS-MCLEAN
The journey into motherhood can be one of the most exciting life changing a woman will ever experience; especially for those who are expecting for the first time. The pregnancy period will be a good time to learn about this new role that will bring many changes and adventures of being a mother. I remember the very first time I saw my baby girl (my first child); even after all the pain I went through it seemed like nothing when I held her in my harms. Looking at her gave me so much joy; I knew right there and then that my life would be changed forever. I told her that I would never let any harm come her way. God knew it would not be easy being a single mom at the time, but I knew that He was always watching over us. The little things that she used to do just made my heart melt, or a painful cry that could break my heart.
TIPS FOR SUCCESSFUL PARENTING
Always spend quality time with your kids, they will appreciate it and you will get to know more. When your child/Children wants to talk, take the time to listen, ask God to give you patience with them. When your angry think before you talk, God knows, I learned the hard way, trust me they do remember.
Parenting has not always easy, but I always remember that: " I can do all thing through Christ who strengthens me. (Philippians 4:13) The Bible teaches that we are to raise up our child / children in the way of God: ''Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it. (Proverbs 22:6). I am a mother to three wonderful children, and I am grateful to God for being my guide as I raise them to love and honour Him. I encourage mothers to always pray for your children; ask God to guide you in your role as a parent. Believe me, He will; He delights in helping His children to live a peaceful and successful family life. PAGE 38| SINGLED OUT MAGAZINE

''Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations. (Jeremiah 1:5)
Before giving birth to a child, mothers may believe they will know and understand their child in every way. For me, I have come to learn that I am just a guide for my children, and my Creator and King is our parent. As a practice, whenever I am going through a challenging situation, and I need to make a decision, I often feel confused and disoriented, so I say: 'Lord I don't know how or what to do, please take control of this situation for me. I have tried but it is not my will it is yours, have your way Lord let your will be done.' Sometimes instantly, or within a few hours or days, I forget about my troubles because I asked the Lord to help me to handle the situation. He always comes to my aid. I am always reminded of the Scripture that says: ''Oh, that their hearts would be inclined to fear me and keep all my commands always, so that it might go well with them and their children forever". (Deuteronomy 5:29) In parenting my children. I rely on God's help and direction. He reassures me through His Word. ''I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth. (1 John 1:4.)

''I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth. 1 John1:4
As I strive to live to please God, I strive to guide my family to embrace the will of the Lord and allow the Him to be Lord of every thing. ''Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it. (Proverbs 22:6). As long as God is the Head of the family, in the good times and challenging times, it is beneficial to allow the Lord to lead. His reassurance will give you peace that your family will be well. It did not have the best start, but as it went along it became more of a learning experience and created some of the best memories that I could ever have.

best support during my tenure as well as my sisters. My pastor, Rev. Orton Deans and his family, who are like my second family, were also of the greatest support. At school, my principal, Mrs. Reynolds, the guidance counselors, Ms. Brown and Mrs. Barnes, along with my 8 subject teachers continually motivated me even when things got stressing. My friends, more specifically my friend group, my church friends and some of my batch mates, also helped me through my time in high school. My extended family was also there for me. Lastly, and most importantly, I had the support of my Father in Heaven to whom every praise and honour is due.

Naturally Gifted written by Shamelia Simpson-McKenzie / photography by Aaliyah Simpson-Mason I am so excited to be able to celebrate Parents' Month in a unique way. In this issue of Singled Out Magazine I get the opportunity to highlight my first-born child: Aaliyah.
It amazes me how fortunate millennials are; they have so much information at their finger tips that makes it easier for them to come into themselves.
She is my joy; I am so proud of her. While I parent her from a distance, since she lives in the United States she makes it easy for me. Thank you darling.
Aaliyah has a natural interest in make-up artistry; with the help of YouTube she teaches herself. Take a look at her work on herself.

Supporting Aaliyah's Gift Aaliyah's talent is undoubtedly natural; I've always wondered why the area of my gifting is not expressed in these practical ways. I guess it skipped a generation, because my mother and grandmother are skilled too. Nevertheless, I celebrate my daughter and pledge to support her in her endeavours. believe it or not, she is not interested in making it a career path. She is currently pursuing a Bachelors Degree in Social Work. I know that God will inspire her work and undoubtedly she will use her talent to glorify Him. It's a joy to support her in celebration of her own Singled Out journey.

Healthy Living A Natural Way to Maintain Good Health BY DIANE PRINCE
The body is the temple of the Lord; this truth is confirmed in the Word of God at 1 Corinthians 6:19. As a child of God, I know that you desire to make your temple a great place in representing God. How we treat our bodies has a great deal to do with how it looks and feels, As a skin care specialist, I have a passion for the skin, which is the largest organ of the body. We will look at ways we can nourish the body with proper nutrition that will benefit the skin. PAGE 52| SINGLED OUT MAGAZINE
The earth produces every ingredient that humans need to lead a healthy life. All we need to do is to learn about the foods that are good for us and develop the discipline to eat in a way that promotes good health in our bodies. Our health depends greatly on what we eat; what we eat will determine how our bodies look and feel. We will look at the foods that promote healthy skin and no doubt health in other organs too.
THE VALUE OF COLOUR
BY DIANE PRINCE
Indulging in the Earth's Bounty; consuming brightly coloured fruits and vegetables Natural fruits and vegetables are a great source of natural vitamins and minerals. It is important to eat as much from these food groups as possible to benefit from the nutrients that they give to the body. Some nutrient rich fruits and vegetables include; Carrots, Apricots, other yellow and orange fruits and vegetables.. Spinach and other green leafy vegetables. Tomatoes and Berries. Beans, peas and lentils. Fruit and vegetables contain powerful antioxidants that help to protect skin from the cellular damage caused by free radicals.
"EAT A RAINBOW OF COLOURFUL FRUITS AND VEGETABLES EVERYDAY" Free radicals, smoking, pollution and sunlight can cause wrinkling and age spots. Eat a rainbow of colourful fruit and vegetables and aim for at least five portions a day. Drink plenty of water too. Remember also to schedule your appointment for a facial at least once per month. Diet and great self care makes for really good health and wellness. PAGE 53| SINGLED OUT MAGAZINE
