LOOKING BACK Â Â You see the all knowing God knew what was ahead, and prepared all who accepted the invitation to meet with Him ahead of time. At the event I and the other women in attendance were given an opportunity to recommit our lives to the King. All who did received physical crown to seal this covenant. Within weeks there were reports thousands of people getting sick; and many even dying. Residents were ordered to stay at home, there were curfews, special days to go shopping; it was chaos everywhere, and no one knew when it would all end. As I give thought to the event that was held I can't begin to imagine what would have happened if I wasn't reassured by the Lord of His love for me. It would have been difficult to cope with all the changes that were happening. All the while, through it all the Lord gives me a peace that I have never experienced before. During the season of the COVID-19 Global Pandemic I became more focused on my personal relationship with God. Through the strength He gives me, I have been able to support other women on their faith Journey by hosting Book Club Sessions. The aim was to encourage them to pray fervently so they can experience growth in their spiritual lives, and build a close relationship with God. Additionally, l was also able to identify my life purpose clearer than I had before. This led to me enrolling in an online Life Coaching Course; which I successfully completed. Today, I am a Certified Life Coach. I can testify to what the scripture says; "And we know that all things work together for the good of those who love God, to them who are the called o according to His purpose". (Romans 8: 28).

I purposed in ,my heart to see all that was happening through God's eyes; I asked Him to help me to understand it from His perspective. Instead of viewing the situation as a negative experience, I was able to see it as an opportunity. I took the time to reflect on what God has done for me since He called me to a journey to wholeness, and assessed how I could make a positive impact in the world. The Creator has "Singled me Out" to be prepared for the purpose for which I was created, and gave me the opportunity to see more clearly who I am and what I was born to do. PAGE 9| SINGLED OUT MAGAZINE

LOOKING BACK It is true that the year 2020 can be perceived as a year uncertainty, chaos, and confusion, It will seem like such if we rely on our own interpretation of events, and we can become overwhelmed. I personally made a decision to seek God for revelation of the times and managed to view the realities of 2020 as an opportunity to become a better version of myself. The relationship I now have with myself and others have improved; I have experienced growth in every area of my life. God is indeed faithful and continues to demonstrate His love daily. There is no doubt that He is active in the earth, and is doing great things to bring His plans for the earth to pass. Those who connect with the Creator will experience His goodness; I encourage all persons to draw closer to God everyday; He will draw close to you, and sustain you now and forever more. LOOKING BACK

BY AALIYAH SIMPSON MASON When 2020 began I thought it would be the year I would accomplish most of my goals. At the end of 2019, I got my drivers license so it seemed like it was only up from there. I turned 21 in January; I thought it would be my time to shine. Then COVID-19 hit and New York , the state in which I live went on lockdown. In an effort to protect myself from the virus, I took leave from work, but after a month of being home it seemed like a year had already passed. I decided to use the time to reflect and get to know who Aaliyah is and what she wanted. As cheesy as it may sound I spent a lot of time searching for who I was and what my purpose was. I had an internal battle with myself in terms of what I wanted versus what others wanted for me. Some days I cried, some days I laughed; other days I felt nothing. But I’m grateful for every day because it taught me a lot about myself. I learned to be honest with others even if it may not be something they want to hear. I learned to be honest with myself. I found that my tendency to be available to others was not reciprocated. I learned to be ok with being alone and how to protect my energy and preserve my peace. The habit of giving to others without receiving was exhausting so I had to adjust how I extend myself. I believe that taking care of me first is necessary for my wellbeing. Despite the challenging realities, the year 2020 was rewarding for me; I am better for it.

BY SHAMELIA SIMPSON-MCKENZIE Reflecting on the year 2020; I know for many persons all over the world it was a period of pain and loss. I sympathize with those persons who were adversely affected by the Global Pandemic of COVID-19. Our island, Jamaica had it's share of cases; and a low number of deaths when compared with other countries. I am grateful for God's protection. I am also grateful that my family and I have been safe. I've often wondered what could possibly happen on a global scale to affect the normal flow of life activities of humans. I would never would have guessed what it would be. I know that it is easy to see the Global Pandemic in a negative light, but I believe that that would be missing the radiance of God's love. During this period, I have learned that the zeal of the Creator is stronger than anything. He will stop at nothing to save His children from what ails them. What ails the inhabitants of the earth is busyness. With the almost global lock down in the year 2020, so many persons had the opportunity to get back to what matters; one's self. Many have discovered, or re-discovered passions, talents and skills that we forgot we possessed. Personally, I re-discovered my love and passion for writing. This magazine is the product of re-igniting my passion. The lesson I learned; in the face of adversity there is still hope. My faith in God kept me focused to know that: this too shall pass.

PAGE 11| SINGLED OUT MAGAZINE

Habakkuk 2:2 The penning of this story began over fifteen years ago; it seemed like only yesterday. So much has happened as evidence of God's love and faithfulness. There is so much to report, but where do I start? I will start here; the time has come for women to experience the favour of the Lord. How do I know; because the Lord Himself has said it: At the time this vision was revealed to me, I was elated and could not wait. This is the word the Lord gave to me: "For the revelation awaits an appointed time; it speaks of the end and will not prove false. Though it linger, wait for it; it will certainly come and will not delay. (Habakkuk 2:3)

When the prophet Habakkuk received a revelation from God; he was told to write it down. Like Habakkuk, I received a revelation over fifteen years ago and I wrote it down. Today, it is coming to pass by the leading of the Holy Spirit of God. I had no idea how it would happen, and when. What vision do I speak of? Here it is: The Virtuous Woman Project - Where Women Discover, Pursue and Fulfill Purpose. Here is how it started. It started with a PRAYER; it went like this: Dear Lord, Please show me how You expect me to serve You as a woman?

What do you know? I was led to Proverbs 31. It was this first time I had seen that Scripture; and as I read, it all made sense. This was the answer to my prayer. Since that time, year by year, the revelation has gotten clearer and clearer. The reason for the vision is more plainer now than ever before. I know one thing for sure; it is that as women we all have the same purpose; that purpose is to "become the righteousness of God in a feminine way". The Virtuous Woman in Proverbs 31:10-31 has managed to master the art of attaining righteousness and pleasing God through her works. We are blessed to have her as a role model; the record of her life story will make ours easier to write. Please take a moment to read the summary of the VISION - The Virtuous Woman Project. Merry Christmas

We would like to wish you and your family a cheerful Holiday Season.

T'IS THE SEASON TO BE JOLLY FROM THE SINGLED OUT MAGAZINE TEAM

THE HUMBLE STORY THAT CHANGED THE WORLD

The Babe in Swaddling Clothes SHAMELIA SIMPSON-MCKENZIE It is undoubtable that from the beginning of time there has been a purpose in God's plan for humans. The design of the universe is evidence that everything exists for a reason, The Scriptures state: For everything there is a "season", and a time for every purpose under heaven. Ecclesiastes 3:1. We can all agree that if there is a season, and purpose for everything, this also means that every person was born for a purpose. Every year at this time we celebrate the birth of the babe who was born in a manger and wrapped in swaddling clothes. His name is Jesus, and He is the Saviour of the World. PAGE 16| SINGLED OUT MAGAZINE

The Scriptures record the Nativity Story; l the book of St. John, we are made aware of the reason for the birth of the Babe of Bethlehem. This Babe was the Saviour of the World. The Scriptures at St. John 3:16 tells of the great love that God has poured out on all men and women: "For God so loved the world that He gave His only Begotten Son that whosoever believes in Him would not perish, but have everlasting life". (St. John 3:16)

We are so blessed to be able to reflect on the blessed gift of God, the birth of the Christ child.

AMALGAMATING CULTURES TO ENRICH A RACE BY SHAMELIA SIMPSON-MCKENZIE Â Isn't it amazing how history unfolds? Throughout the journey of humans since the day of creation there has been numerous experiences among different races of people. Such journeys sometimes take them to distant lands; often not under the most pleasing circumstances. Like the Nation of Israel, the African people journey involves being taken from their homeland, transported thousands of mile across the ocean to a foreign land away from all that we know to be familiar. However painful these experiences were, there can be some glimmer of hope and pride that will be of benefit even while living away from the Motherland. After witnessing his people suffer because of lack of a common vision, one visionary found a way to bring them together by researching the rich cultures of Africa to creat a concept known as KWANZAA. kwanzaa Influences and Practices of Kwanzaa The name Kwanzaa is derived from the phrase “matunda ya kwanza” which means “first fruits” in Swahili. The Kwanzaa celebrations often include songs and dances, African drums, storytelling, poetry reading, and a large traditional meal. On each of the seven nights, the family gathers and a child lights one of the candles on the Kinara (candleholder), then one of the seven principles is discussed. Kwanzaa also has seven basic symbols which represent values and concepts reflective of African culture. An African feast, called a Karamu, is held on December 31. The candle-lighting ceremony each evening provides the opportunity to gather and discuss the meaning of Kwanzaa. The first night, the black candle in the center is lit (and the principle of umoja/unity is discussed). One candle is lit each evening and the appropriate principle is discussed. ACTIVATE FAITH How to Trust God in the Face of Doubt

BY ELAINE SIMPSON

It is human nature to be hopeful and to strive to improve one's standing. I believe that the desire for better and more is universal. I am sure you will agree with me that as we mature we we desire to acquire property: a house, car; we desire companionship and seek for a partner, we want to be successful and we pursue a career. We plan for a family and the lists goes on.

I had saved enough money for the deposit, but my salary was too low to be qualified for the loan. I pressed forward; on the day of the sale I went to the location by faith gave all the necessary information made the down payment signed the agreement. Seemingly the agent did not realize that based on my income I was not qualified.

All these hopes and desires are put in our hearts by our Creator; He desires to give us all that we need and more. Oftentimes though, we hope outside of God and we can sometimes become frustrated when our hopes and dreams are not realized.

This was all God. Three months later I attended a second interview and it was at that point that it was revealed that based on my income I was not qualified for the loan. But the God of the Universe is a miracle worker. I was given a date for another interview and I used this time I sought direction from the Lord.

The Scripture teaches about faith: " Now faith is the substance of things hope for the evidence of things not seen (Hebrews 11:1) In order for these hope to become reality faith needs to be activated. How do you activate faith? Based on this verse, faith and hope works together. In my personal life I have experienced the power of faith. At one point in my life I desired to purchase a house for my family. After renting a house for many years, and came to that point in my life where I purposed in my mind that the time has come to own my own home. At the time my financial reality put me out of the game to secure a mortgage to purchase a house. My faith was quite young at the time, but I decided to extend my faith and believe for what seemed impossible. I prayed about the situation and when the next phase of houses came out for sale I was instructed by the Holy Spirit to apply.

PAGE 32| SINGLED OUT MAGAZINE

I held firm to the Word of God, and activated my faith based on the Scripture that tells me to: " ask and you will receive, seek and you will find, knock and the door will be opened to you. (St. Matthew7:7) . During that time in addition to my regular job, I was sewing clothes for persons in my community and church. The Lord directed me to record all that I earned from my dress making skill as a second income. I did so by writing all the sales in a small notebook. On the date of the interview I presented the information as well as copies of the receipts I gave to my customers. Would you believe that I was now over qualified for the loan. Four months later I received the keys to my first house. The faithfulness of God is guaranteed when we trust Him to be Who He is.

ACTIVATE FAITH

How to Trust God Even When It's Hard

The human tendency is to rely on what the eyes see; and sometimes this practice prevents us from experiencing God's best for us. The God's word says: "without faith, it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to Him, must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him. (Hebrews 11:6) God's Word is settled, is is sure, and does not change. All that is required is to open your heart and believe that God's love for you is unconditional; He is faithful to His word. Then you need to allow God opportunities to prove how much he love you by having the courage to activate your faith: " ...speak those things that are not as though they were. (Romans 4:17) You are special to God; He desires the best for you, and has great plans for you (Jeremiah 29:11). The missing piece of the puzzle in the fulfillment of God's promises is your faith. It is true that sometimes life can get challenging, but one thing never changes: that's God's love, plans and purpose for you and I.

When we read the Word of God, our faith will grow; it is written: "Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God" (2 Corinthians 5:17) Having faith can be hard work, but I can say that it is work that is possible. We can develop strategies to increase our faith; and we can be assured that God will honour our efforts and prove Himself to be Who He is...a faithful God.

ELAINE'S TOP TIPS FOR STRENGTHENING FAITH READ THE WORD OF GOD

PRAY FERVENTLY

Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path. (Psalm 119:105)

In everything, with prayer and supplication, make your requests known to God (Philippians 4:6)

The Word of God, the Bible is inspired by God through His faithful servants. It reveals the character, nature, plans, promises and requirements of God. In reading the Bible there is much knowledge to be gained that will help us to live each day with the right perspective and attitude. God will honour our deire to please Him and send His Holy Spirit to guide and direct us to all that He has in store; all plans of good.

KEEP GOOD COMPANY

Prayer is a line of communication between man and God. Our Creator desires to hear what is on our minds, and wants to support us on our life journey. One thing He requires is that we speak to Him in prayer. He will hear and answer the fervent prayers of a righteous person. (James 5:16). Fervent means: "showing great warmth, enthusiasm and with intensity of spirit.

Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly...(Psalm 1:1)

Association is important when you are pursuing the path of faith. Our relationships should honour God. Being close with persons who are striving to live an upright life will help to keep you grounded and accountable. They can encourage you, and even teach you truths about God so you can see answers to your prayers.

YEAR IN REVIEW

Above Sheena Murray enjoying nature's blessing

STRENGTH FOR TODAY...BRIGHT HOPE FOR TOMORROW As we approach the end of the year 2020, it has been said by many persons that it was a terrible year! A year of death, devastation, upheavals and uncertainties. A year when it appeared that the earth was waging war against its inhabitants fighting back seemed like a loosing battle. If anything could go wrong, it did. With a year like that, who wouldn’t want to see the back of it, right? Despte the reality, may I invite you step away from the apparent gloom and depression and really look at it from a different perpective?

PAGE 36| SINGLED OUT MAGAZINE

In the words of: Sheena L. Murray When we do, we will realize that 2020 has been a year of stretching, moving beyond the norm, digging deep to find that inner strength, releasing that creativity, taking that bold step we’d meant to aaaallll those years ago. It's the year when we all have the opportunity to be free of all that limits; to bust out of that box that you believed you were locked in, and the keys thrown away.

For me, the year 2020 has been a year of renewal and thanksgiving and for appreciating blessings that were easily overlooked. Cherishing what I have and what really matters – such as life, family, friends, taking a breath, laughter, forgiveness and the opportunity to live in the moment. It has been and should continue to be a time for "LOVE" to take centre stage – to be the star it was intended to be. It is wise to share, release grudges, give of ourselves and be our brothers’ and sisters’ keepers; this is the true purpose and meaning of humanity. We had a great opportunity to pause and take stock of all the turbulence around us. Let us also be mindful and know that no matter how the storms rage, this too shall pass and we can learn to surf the waves. God is in full control and will do well to calm the storm. We come to the end of the year; a usual time for celebration; if you are reading these words, you have so much to be thankful for. Therefore, let us give praise to God, let us lift up and celebrate those who are near and dear to us and spread the joy to those near and far. As for me, I choose to celebrate the opportunity to share with you and to be in your space right now. I celebrate my mom who reached a significant milestone of 90 years and yet remains healthy, strong and as spritely as a 60-year old. I celebrate my aunt and uncle who are both fit as fiddles at 87 and 89 years old, respectively.

I love them so very much and am veeerrrry proud of them. God has indeed blessed my quiver abundantly, and I am grateful. I celebrate Nev and CJ – my two grandchildren - who are a source of love, joy, laughter and countless ahaa moments. And finally, I embrace and celebrate the now and appreciate it in all its fullness because no matter how challenging situations may appear to be, we were all created equipped and ready to overcome the obstacles!!! Celebrating Life's Possibilities By: Sheena L. Murray As the dawn follows the darkness, and the sun begins to spread her warm, buttery glow across the earth, so too our spirits awaken, and our souls rise to meet the dawning of renewed and expanded possibilities. The heroes and heroines within us, the kings, queens, princes, princesses and the winners too – all stand at attention waiting to be commanded into action, to rise and chaperone the greatness within to take its rightful place. Let us therefore go forward with confidence and embrace all the positives in our lives. Let us deny the negatives a place of abode, so that our hearts can rejoice in victory and say with one accord, at last, we have won!

LIFE TALK GROWING STRONGER IN FAITH RENEW YOUR MIND AND ENJOY A SUCCESSFUL 2021 by: Shamelia Simpson-McKenzie When a new year approaches it usually takes with it a sense of renewed hope and enthusiasm for better things ahead. For many, there is the usual list of New Year Resolutions, a list of goals and a heart full of hope. The year 2020 was for every person living on planet earth a life changing experience. The reality of the Global Pandemic of COVID-19 has altered the way humans live and interact with each other. For many of us, life as it is may be quite a challenge, even causing despair. In 2021, there is no telling how things will be; not that we could have known in any other year. The present is usually an indication of what the future can be, and with 2020 being as it is, it is easily assumed that any hope for better may be far fetched. Not so fast; there is much to hope for because the Word of God says that : "Those who hope in the Lord will not be disappointed"

(Isaiah 49:23) PAGE 40| SINGLED OUT MAGAZINE

GROWING STRONGER IN FAITH As the new year approaches you can have renewed hope , especially if you make the decision to stand on the promises of God. You see, there is a God Who is greater, and more powerful than a virus. He is able to do: "...exceedingly, abundantly more that you can ask or even imagine. (Ephesians 3:20)

I am sure you are excited about knowing a God with such love and power. As you look forward to the new year, I encourage you, if you haven't yet done so to make up your mind to:

1. Rely More on God - He cares for you and wants to support you as you go through your life journey. PROMISE SCRIPTURE: Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will direct your path." ( Proverbs 3:5-6)

2. Read the Word of God - The Bible is inspired by God and is a gift to us to know and understand the will and purpose of God. It gives insight into the character of God and opens the way to know and love Him. He loves us so much and wants us to experience His love in every way. PROMISE SCRIPTURE:

"The Word of God is living and active, sharper than any twoedged sword... (Hebrews 4:12)

3. Pray in all things - God is desires to hear from you. PROMISE PRAYER The prayer of a righteous man avails much (St. James 5:16) PAGE 41| SINGLED OUT MAGAZINE

as they pursue the heart of God and strive to discover and fulfill their life purpose. I never seize to be amazed by God's awesome love and power; He continues to take and make opportunities for His children to know that we are on His mind. During the year 2020, the effect of the Global Pandemic of COVID-19 was real, but through it all our family of Queens have been strengthened in our faith and renewed in our resolve to pursue purpose with passion.

BY INEKE MURRAY What an interesting year it has been; the year 2020 is interesting to say the least. When I sit back and reflect on the past 11 months, I think: " oh boy it has certainly been a ride. It was an experience that required mental strength; otherwise one would possibly fall apart. For me, the Global Pandemic of COVID19 was a test of my strength, faith, resilience and commitment. In retrospect I believe that I faired well. The year is almost at a close, and I can say that I have learned many lessons that I will take with me into the coming year and beyond. Admittedly, I struggled with a spirit of fear; during this time I learned how to slay fear. I was encouraged and strengthened by the Holy Spirit to step outside my comfort zone. I wrote and published a Devotional, and launched an online business. Had things been: "normal", as we know them to be I probably would not have had the time nor the courage to pursue these paths. Undoubtedly, my relationship with God grew closer. In being able to spend more time with my children, we have gotten closer as a unit. I also had more time to reach out to persons who mean the most to me, and I accepted the need to let go of what and who no longer serves my greater good. I am eternally grateful that all my family members; those at home and abroad remained in good health. I give all honour and praise to God for His faithfulness towards us.

UNDERSTANDING HOW FRAGILE LIFE IS, I NOW LIVE IN THE MOMENT, APPRECIATING IT ALL AND GIVING MY 100% TO EVERYTHING I DO. INEKE MURRAY

The reality of COVID-19 has had adverse effects on many persons, and I do want this virus to go away, One thing I dare not ask for, is that things be "normal" again. In the so called "normal" of old, life was taken for granted, people were taken for granted and I preferred to live life on the sidelines. Today, understanding how fragile life is, I now live in the moment, appreciating it all and giving my 100% to everything I do. The year 2020 has been for me, a year of growth, maturity, stretching; for all this I am grateful...truly, truly grateful. All glory be to God, Most High!!!!!

RELYING ON FAITH The Secret Recipe for A Disruptive Year

BY DONNAMAREE DAODU For many, it seems that the experiences of 2020 has cut through our hearts like a sharp double edged sword. It is as thought he important things in our lives were sliced and diced. The things we held dear to our hearts such as visiting the salon to get our hair and nails done are deemed non-essential by our governments. With the mandatory lock downs in many many countries, I imagine that many highachieving women who work outside the home doing fulfilling tasks, being ‘stuck at home’ with their ‘loved ones’ has been a nightmare. While I am high-achieving professional woman who highly values my family, close friends and time for myself, this was not the case for me. Being stripped of what our blessed government deemed ‘non-essential’ was no bother for me. I managed to indulge in tasks that I would not usually have time to do. I even groomed my own nails, and cooked new Jamaican dishes since restaurants were closed. I took it all in my stride and leaned into my faith in God, enjoying the company of my nearest and dearest. The year 2020 has highlighted something pretty important for me; I’m really proud of the transformations I have chosen over the past 4 years because the ‘old me’ would have had a nightmare of a time. I give glory to the Most High for provision, protection, leadership and guidance. PAGE 52| SINGLED OUT MAGAZINE
