IN CHARGE:

PAUL ABRAHAMS SPRING IS FINALLY HERE AND THE IT’S GREAT TO SEE THE SUN SHINING ON US AT PARK DRIVE TODAY AND AS WE REACH THE BUSINESS END OF THE SEASON. A WARM WELCOME TO DOOGS, NETHERS, THEIR STAFF, PLAYERS, TRAVELLING FANS AND THE COGGESHALL TOWN COMMITTEE.

We have had many a close and tough contest with yet another one of our neighbours as the derby count in the Pitching In Isthmian League North keeps coming. It always adds that little extra spice to an already competitive fixture. I have very fond memories of playing with my ex-team mate Doogs, in a time when Colchester United were fortunate enough to reach three Wembley finals and gain promotion from the National League Premier and then again from League Two to League One. Doogs has a million pro games under his belt and knows football, so we fully expect a very well-organised and disciplined team to turn up at Park Drive today and we will need to be at our very best to take all three points. We arrive back after a trip to the Essex seaside and a blustery Great Wakering. Conditions were again particularly challenging and, as with many games recently, it has been important that we try to adapt to these conditions better than our opponents on the day before we can impose our passing game on teams. With the strong wind in our faces during the first half, I thought we were excellent in controlling much of the half and limiting Wakering to the odd half-chance. Some good play saw us create a number of goalscoring opportunities, but it wasn’t until late in the half we made the breakthrough. Sham Barnwell - who I thought was brilliant on the day - got in off a long ball from Turps, cutting back and finding the back of the net via a deflection. The second half wasn’t as impressive and Wakering had two great chances to get back into the game before we got our second. We made changes from a strong bench and managed to control the latter stages of the game and it was great to see Rob Clark get his first goal for the club and for Shad to be back in the goals.

This week saw the departure of both Rob Lacey and Phil Brown-Bampoe. As we have strengthened the squad in recent weeks, game time has become limited and these two lads are far too good not to be playing football at this level. As a result they have both moved on to pastures new in hope of more regular football. They are both fine young men and leave with the thanks and blessing of all of the management team, their team mates and all those involved at the club. I’m sure it won’t be the last that we see of them. It’s also been good to see “Mr Chop-back” Bryan back on the bench and hopefully back on the pitch after several weeks out injured. Now on to today and our latest test. Our current form is good, but we still know we can do more and that the best is still to come from this group of boys. We have only posted one loss in ten games and only conceded three goals in the last five games, one of which was a penalty. The defensive resilience shown is impressive and we appear to grow stronger in games, aided for the first time this season by having match-winners on the bench. This will be essential in the run-in. Only five weeks of the season remain and we must continue and improve our form even further to go all out to win the remain eight fixtures if we are to have any chance of making the play-offs. We keep focused and believing we can win every game, but we will need all of you fans with us and the Maldon & Tiptree youth teams out in force so we can give it our collective all! COYJs! Paul

TUESDAY 15TH MARCH | THE PITCHING IN ISTHMIAN LEAGUE NORTH | ATT: 186 Maldon & Tiptree held Aveley to a goalless draw at Park Drive in their last home outing. The Millers, led by Danny Scopes, arrived at Park Drive in a fine run of form and in their three-way battle of the league title. In the first half, Paul Abrahams’ side had plenty of openings to score the first goal but were guilty of not taking their chances, whilst the Aveley defence stood strong. Throughout the second half, the visitors showed why they are where they are in table. However, they were unable to find a way past Tommy Dixon-Hodge and his defenders in the Jammers’ goal, whilst at the other end, Ade Cole had the best chance of the half but saw his effort go narrowly wide.

CLUB NEWS

BROWN-BAMPOE DEPARTS Phil Brown-Bampoe has left Maldon & Tiptree. The midfielder has found competitive minutes harder to come by in recent weeks and has departed ahead of the transfer deadline day to allow him to join another club.

Signing from Barking in October, the attacking midfielder scored once for the Jammers across 18 appearances this season and everyone at the club wishes Phil all the best for the future.

SUPPORTING PROSTATE CANCER UK MATCH MASCOTS This afternoon is Non-League Day in aid of Prostate Cancer UK and, to support the cause, we are collecting donations for PCUK around Park Drive today, whilst pin badges and wristbands will also be available with proceeds going to PCUK too. Prostate Cancer UK’s top priority is funding research to stop prostate cancer killing men. They are investing millions to find better treatments and better tests that can spot fast-growing cancers early, and could be used in a screening programme to save thousands of lives. 1 in 8 men will get prostate cancer. If you’re over 50, or you’re black, or your dad or brother had it, you’re at even higher risk. Prostate cancer is not always lifethreatening. But when it is, the earlier you catch it the more likely it is to be cured.

A big welcome to our U7s Pumas who join us this afternoon as today’s match mascots. Our Maldon & Tiptree U7 Pumas squad was assembled in the summer of 2021 and these young players have been absolutely superb all season in their first year of competitive football. Highlights for this young side include scoring nearly 100 goals in 21 matches, winning the Essex Royals tournament group and being one of only two teams to take points from every team in the Blackwater & Dengie Youth League. The footballing future for our young Pumas looks extremely bright with all of the credit going to these talented players who are proud to play for the Jammers.

SATURDAY 19TH MARCH | THE PITCHING IN ISTHMIAN LEAGUE NORTH | ATT: 123 The Jammers extended their unbeaten run to three games whilst recording back-to-back clean sheets at Great Wakering Rovers. On a bobbly surface, attractive football was hard to come by whilst a strong wind also added to the difficult conditions. It was the Jammers who created the first two opportunities of the encounter but Tim Brown was on guard in the Wakering goal, firstly making a smart save to deny Shomari Barnwell. Moments later, Maldon went close again after smart play down the left. The ball was crossed to Bradley McClenaghan inside the penalty area but his side-footed effort rebounded off the crossbar and out of play. Joe Turpin was next to go close, although his volleyed effort was saved by Brown in the home goal. In the 40th minute, the Jammers finally were rewarded for their dominance. A clearance from Turpin was superbly won by BARNWELL at the other end of the pitch, before he cut onto his left, beating one defender. His effort on target appeared to be blocked by a defender, but it rolled into the bottom corner for his tenth goal of the season. On the stroke of half-time, Tommy Dixon-Hodge somehow kept his side in the game, making an

outstanding and instinctive diving save to deny Billy Johnson who had already wheeled away in celebration. After a positive first half, the Jammers were looking to extend their lead after the interval. However, the hosts had other ideas and came out the blocks fast in the second half, hitting the post and having an effort cleared from danger. Midway through the second period and the Jammers extended their lead, slightly against the run of play. After Lordon Akolbire had won the ball back high up the pitch, Sam Coombes delivered a pin-point cross into the box, locating Rob CLARK at the back post, who took one touch before curling his effort into the top corner for his first goal for the club. With Wakering desperate to find a way back into the game, Maldon continued to live dangerously in defence whilst the hosts were unable to capitalise. At the other end, Maldon continued to create chances with Brown once again denying Barnwell, before Turpin sent a header wide. In the 88th minute, the Jammers were handed a good chance for a third goal after McClenaghan was pulled to the ground in the penalty area, leaving the referee with no choice but to award a penalty. After being denied the chance to take the last penalty against Heybridge, Shad NGANDU got his way this time, taking control of the spot-kick and was rewarded, beating Brown with his eyes before rolling the ball into the bottom corner to complete the scoring.

The joint-second oldest original football club in Essex, Coggeshall Town was formed at a meeting held at the White Hart Hotel, Coggeshall on September 27th 1878. The official report of that meeting was published in Coggeshall Parish Magazine in October 1878 and reads as follows: “A meeting was held on Friday last 27th ult, at the White Hart Hotel for the purpose of forming a Football Club in this town. The chairman (Mr. G. F. Beaumont) announced that Mr. Hanbury had kindly consented to act as President to the club, and he was accordingly unanimously elected. The meeting next appointed Mr. G. F. Beaumont as Hon. Sec and the following gentlemen were chosen to form a Committee: The Rev. J.

P. A. Bowers, Messrs. T. W. Haddon, A.T. Bremner, F. Beard, A. Judges, C. Poulton and J. Webster. Play is to commence on Saturday next, the 5th inst. At 3 o’clock punctually in Mynheer Park, kindly lent by Mr. T. C. Swinborne. The rules of the game may be obtained from the Secretary or any member of the Committee. It is hoped that the club may be strongly supported by players and non-players. The subscriptions for players is 1/- and for non-players 2/6d”. Records held at the Coggeshall Museum, suggest that the Football Club was founded by J. K. King & Sons, a local family seed business. The account of the inaugural meeting makes no mention of the company although its role may be acknowledged

through the club’s nickname, “The Seedgrowers” that remains to this day. Coggeshall provided the first opposition for both Braintree FC, in January 1879 and Halstead, in November of the same year. In 1880, at this time the traditional colours of Scarlet and Black were adopted. Abandoning the steep slope of Myneer Park the 188081 season was played on Mr Fuller’s Barnard Field in Pointwell Lane, Little Coggeshall, before spending the rest of the decade on the Highfields Farm Park. Then “Fabians” field in Colne Road was played on until 1895 when a permanent move to Highfields was made, this became the club’s home for 65 years. Coggeshall’s early competitive football was in the Essex Junior Cup, in which they were losing finalists in 1898 99, before joining the North Essex League the following year. They won the N.E.L. four times and the Colchester & District League Division II B twice, becoming founder members of the Border League in 1911–12. Always known as the “Town” team, after the Great War the club resumed as Coggeshall Town, although they played with a degree of success in the Braintree, Kelvedon and Halstead Leagues it was with the N.E.L. Division II that they really made their mark, increasing their titles to an amazing 14 times up to 1939. The post –war period became boom time for the club as they switched from the North Essex League to the Braintree and District League, before broadening their horizons in the fledgling Colchester and East Essex League, where their previous pedigree rewarded them with a Division 1 start in 1950-51. Runners up. A season later, they were promoted to the Premier Division and built up an impressive Supporter’s Club with a membership in excess of 200. Long serving officials, Secretary, John Alston and Treasurer, Norman Burton, provided a sound administrative base. The Club’s ambitious committee, led by Chairman Lou Marks, then Tom Ritson were soon targeting the Border League as their next step up the football ladder, a goal they duly achieved in 1958-59. However, a shock awaited the Seedgrowers, when, in the summer of 1960, they were given notice to quit Highfields, their home for 65 years. Colonel F.t. Hill came to the rescue, first with an interim pitch at his Holfield Grange and then by offering the use of a bit of land behind the Cricket pitch at “The Crops”. Complete with a new pavilion, which is now the changing rooms. “The Crops” opened with a Coggeshall Brotherhood Cup –tie against Courtaulds in August 1961. The covered stand was added in 1964.

Now the Seedgrowers began to blossom, winning Division 1 in 1962-63 and under the managership of ex-Colchester United player, Bob Dale the championship in 1966-67, Alf Marshall was in charge when they retained their title and won the Knock-Out Cup in 1968-69. Another former Colchester star, Derek Parker, led them to the Border League and Cup double, the Essex Intermediate Cup, 2-0 v Great Wakering in 1970–71. The clubhouse was added in 1971. From 1972 onwards, the club played in the Essex Senior League without winning any honours. The club’s future was threatened again in 1981 when the landowner announced that he wished to sell the land. Once more, the club embarked on a fundraising campaign. The commitment of those involved is evident from the efforts of the club manager, Peter Barlow, who embarked on a run from “The Crops” to FA Headquarters at Lancaster Gate to hand in an appeal for support to save the ground. A little behind schedule, he arrived at the FA to find it closed. Nevertheless, he raised £500 toward the fund. With the help of Coggeshall Parish Council and the Sports Council, the club raised the funding to buy the land and for the first time, just over 100 years since they were formed, Coggeshall Town owned their own facilities. The Border League was again joined in 1990-91 followed by two spells in the Essex intermediate League which sandwiched a single season in Division IV of the Colchester and East Essex League. Since the last return to the Border League in 2000-01, the club has risen from Division III to the Pemier Division and back to the first Division. Ivan Gooday was Manager when first losing 1-0 to Harwich and Parkeston in the 2011-12 League Cup Final and then winning promotion back to the Premier Division as runners up in 2012-13. The start of the 2013-14 season saw major changes at Coggeshall Town with the club accepting a proposal from local businessman Graeme Smith to become involved in running the club. Initially Smith’s involvement was in an advisory role coupled with managing the reserve team, which he took over midway through that season, leading them on to winning the Essex and Suffolk Border League Reserve Cup and saving the team from relegation. During the remainder of that season Smith’s influence at the club led to many improvements on and off the pitch. The 2014-15 season saw Graeme Smith take full control of the football club and become first team manager alongside his assistant and long-term

friend John Pollard. During this season, significant improvements were made throughout the whole club. On the pitch, the team secured a 6th place finish in the Border League Premier Division and were runners up in the League Cup final. The 2015-16 season again saw many improvements to the newly named “West Street” ground. It was a very successful season on the pitch also with Smith and Pollard leading the team to the league and cup double securing promotion to the Eastern Counties League division one. 2016-17 saw floodlights installed at “West Street” for the first time in the club’s history, which meant the club met all the requirements to compete in the league above. The continued ground upgrading and success of the team on the pitch led to great interest in Coggeshall Town highlighted by an attendance of 1022 against an Ipswich Town XI in a pre-season fixture. More evidence of the growing popularity of the club followed with attendances soaring throughout the season. The opening match under the new floodlights was another big attendance when Braintree Town Reserves were the visitors to West Street with the “Seedgrowers” recording a fine 6-1 victory. .It was another tremendous season with the team again achieving promotion as runners up to take their place in the Eastern Counties League Premier Division for the start off the 2017-18 season. For the 2017-18 season, Coggeshall Town lined up in the Eastern Counties League Premier Division for the first time in the club’s history. There was another major development at the club with pop star Olly Murs becoming joint owner of the club with Graeme Smith. Further ground improvements were carried out, with Smith and Murs overseeing a total refurb of the dressing rooms and Murs himself funding a complete transformation of the clubhouse inside and out which was well overdue. The facilities at the club were now ready for the team to move up another level and again the team did not disappoint winning the league at the first attempt by six points with a goal difference of +116 scoring 146 league goals in the process. The last week of the season was an exciting one, with Coggeshall gaining two wins in five days against their nearest rivals for the title, Felixstowe who were 2nd and Stowmarket who were 3rd. The Away Match at Felixstowe, which was the title deciding game, played in front of a crowd of over 1541, with Coggeshall recording a 4-2 victory. This meant that the team achieved its

third promotion in a row and moved up to step 4 of the football pyramid for the first time in their 140 year history as they took their place in The Isthmian League Division One North. The 2018–19 season saw further development to the clubs facility’s at West Street, as well as creating new records on the pitch. We were now playing in step 4 for the first time in the clubs History, as well as making our debuts in the FA Cup and the FA Trophy. A few additions to the squad were made which enabled us to have a good run in the FA Cup, finally losing 1–0 away to Weston-super-Mare in the 3rd Round Qualifying. The good form was carried on throughout the season with the club making the play-offs finishing in 4th place, losing 1–0 away to Maldon & Tiptree in the semi-final. The 2019–20 season was brought to an early close in March due to the Coronavirus pandemic; at this stage, the club had played eight Cup and twenty-six League games. With only four defeats in the league, Town were sitting in sixth place with games in hand over most of their closest rivals and looking in a strong position to make the play-offs for the second season running. Disappointingly, due to the unprecedented circumstances it did not happen. The 2020–21 season. Due to the continued pandemic, the season got under way in September, which was later than usual. We had made some good summer signings and the squad was looking strong, with the hope of challenging for the play-offs again. However, after only 10 games, six League and 4 Cup on 31st October the season suspended due to the continued Coronavirus. In the hope of being able, to make restart, Clubs were allowed to keep training and at the beginning of December, we played three friendlies behind closed doors, but with the pandemic worsening the football season was cancelled. For the forthcoming 2021–22 season, there have been several additions to the squad. Some players have returned to the club after a spell away and several exciting young players have signed. I hope that it will be an interesting and exciting season for fans and with fingers crossed that we will be able to complete a full season. After playing 11 games, due to family reasons John Pollard stepped down from his role of manager and on the 20th October Karl Duguid and Stuart Nerthercott were appointed joint managers to lead the Club and push towards the target of reaching the Play-offs.

SATURDAY 4TH DECEMBER | THE PITCHING IN ISTHMIAN LEAGUE NORTH | ATT: 132 Despite finding themselves two goals behind, Maldon & Tiptree battled back to leave Coggeshall Town with a point thanks to a dramatic injury-time leveller in the reverse fixture. The Jammers dominated for the majority of the opening twenty minutes and should have really been ahead. Scott Kemp had both chances, with the first a header that went over the bar and his second courtesy of a brilliant cross from Aaron WilliamsBushell. Tommy Dixon-Hodge made a good reaction save to deny Jermain Francis in the Maldon goal, whilst Phil Brown-Bampoe watched on as his deflected effort sailed just over the bar at the other end. In the 25th minute, the hosts took the lead. A ball over the top from Francis found the dangerous Alex Teniola, as the Jammers defence backed away, TENIOLA found himself with more space then expected and took his shot early, as it curled beyond the full reach of Dixon-Hodge who was only able to parry it into the corner of the net. Just eight minutes later and the hosts had their second. With the Jammers unable to clear their lines, Isaac SKUBICH was on hand inside the penalty area and his deflected effort flew beyond Dixon-Hodge and into the back of the net. Brown’s boys responded well though and were denied what appeared to be a clear goal shortly after, as Shad Ngandu’s long-range effort rattled off the cross bar but was deemed to have not crossed the line. Just like the week before, the Jammers pulled a goal back shortly before the half-time break. A cross from the left found Kemp who leaped well and, though his header rebounded off the crossbar, it fell at the feet of Shomari BARNWELL who pounced on the loose ball to poke it home.

18

MALDON & TIPTREE vs COGGESHALL TOWN

As half-time approached, Barnwell had the ball in the net once again after more smart play from Williams-Bushell, but the goal was ruled out by the assistant referee’s raised flag. The Jammers had it all to do in the second half. Frankie Terry was replaced at the break by Malachi Napa which resulted in a change of shape for the Jammers, with Kemp displaying his versatility by filling in at full-back. The Jammers dominated possession throughout the second half, with Coggeshall unable to escape their half for the main, but their defence stood tall with Cafer yet to make a save. As Brown’s side continued to throw bodies forward, their final-third entries continued to rise and Williams-Bushell had a brilliant chance to equalise. A ball from Brown-Bampoe into the box caused confusion in the hosts’ area, but despite Cafer missing the ball under pressure, Williams-Bushell was unable to convert into an empty net from close-range. At the other end, Dixon-Hodge was called on once more and made a fantastic reactive save to deny Teniola his second goal. In the 90th minute, Maldon had the equaliser their performance warranted. A cross from the right evaded everyone until NAPA was in the right place at the right time as the ball rebounded off his chest and flew into the top corner beyond Cafer. With what was almost the last kick of the game, the Jammers nearly found a winner, a cross from Brown-Bampoe evading everyone including Cafer but drifting beyond the far post.

MALDON & TIPTREE

CLUB HISTORY

In 2009, Ed Garty took over the ownership of Maldon Town from Michael Kirkham, whilst still in charge of running Tiptree United and installed Alan Brockhouse as Maldon Town’s new chairman. Following the takeover, Colin Wallington returned for a second spell in charge of Maldon Town, leaving his post as Tiptree United manager immediately. Colin previously managed Maldon Town from 2003 until 2007, having achieved promotion in the 200506 via the play-off final. Having left Maldon in 2007, Colin went on to manage Tiptree United where he achieved promotion winning the

20

MALDON & TIPTREE vs COGGESHALL TOWN

Eastern Counties Division One title in the 2007/08 season. Until the conclusion of the 2009/10 season both Maldon Town & Tiptree United played their home games at Park Drive, under a ground share arrangement. In the summer of 2010, Maldon Town & Tiptree United amalgamated to form, Maldon & Tiptree Football Club, under the ownership of Ed Garty. As a result of the amalgamation, Tiptree United withdrew from the Essex Senior League, resulting in the club’s last ever fixture being a 3-1 defeat against Enfield 1893 on 24 April 2010. Maldon & Tiptree took

the place of Maldon Town in the Isthmian Division One North. Following the retirement of Colin Wallington, Assistant Manager, Brad King and Glen Knight were appointed as the clubs JointManager. As the pair’s first managerial role, the new club witnessed wholesale changes with only a handful of players remaining who finished the season with Maldon Town and Tiptree United, respectively. The 2010-11 campaign saw the new club remain in or around the play-off positions for the majority of the season, finishing in eighth

place to finish the season with sixty-three points. Despite the high turnover of players, the good standard of football was maintained and it was in the end, a disappointing end to the season, for the club to fall away in the later stages of the season when suspensions and injuries eventually took their toll to leave the club frustratingly short of the play-off positions at the end of April. The 2011-12 season, proved to not be so successful and in November 2011, King and Knight were relieved of their duties with immediate effect. Ex-Charlton professional Mike Flanagan was appointed as Caretaker Manager and remained in place until the end of the season, steering the club to a respectful mid-table finish, managing thirty-three games and finishing with a win percentage of 49.12%. At the start of the 2012-13 campaign, Ex-Stansted & Redbridge boss Terry Spillane was appointed as Manager, and Mike Flanagan departed the club. The change of management, once again brought wholesale changes with the playing squad. Ex Tiptree United manager, Jody was brought to the club as Terry’s Assistant Manager. After a fantastic and unbeaten start to the season, the club found themselves at the top of the table but an incredible run by eventual Champions Grays Athletic meant Maldon had to settle for a place in the play-offs – Terry’s side remained unbeaten until Boxing Day, when they lost away from home against local rivals Heybridge Swifts. Disappointment came in the play-off final however when they lost a two goal lead to draw with Thamesmead Town, who thenwent on to win the final,on penalties.

After a disappointing end to the previous season, Terry Spillane oversaw more wholesale changes in the playing squad, including the departure of Assistant Manager, Jody Brown. Despite the changes, Maldon finished in ninth position with seventy-six points, winning twenty-one games. More changes to the playing staff, resulted in poor start to the 2014-15 season, and the club parted ways with Spillane in September 2014, with Chairman, Ed Garty takeover as Caretaker Manager, for three games. At the end of September 2014, Alan Kimble was appointed as manager and remained in charge for the remainder of the season, however the side struggled and more changes in the playing staff occurred. Maldon finished the season in nineteenth place with only forty-nine points. During the 2014-15 season, Media Officer at the time, Richard Buckby ran a competition for supporters to vote for a club nickname, with the options The River Boys, The Marshmen, The Mudmen and The Jammers available. The vote took place in January 2015 and was featured on National Radio station, TalkSport, with the The Jammers winning the vote with over 50% and being confirmed as the clubs new nickname. Following the completion of the 2014-15 season, the club linked with Colchester United and the two clubs formed close ties, which resulted in ex Ipswich Town midfielder, David Wright being appointed as First Team Manager. Wright remained in charge until December 2015 as he was appointed Assistant Manager of Colchester United. Liam Bailey took charge of the First Team on

a temporary basis, only managing one game, which finished four-all against Tilbury on Boxing Day in 2015. Moving into 2016, exLeiston Manager, Steve Ball was appointed First Team Manager and steered the club to a respectable finish in the league table climbing to seventh place, only missing out on the play-off places by nine points. In the closed season, a change of Management at Colchester United saw Steve Ball appointed as their Assistant Manager, leaving his position of Maldon & Tiptree Manager as a result. Ex-Manchester City midfielder, Kevin Horlock was then appointed as First Team manager ahead of the 2016-17 campaign and for the majority of the season, the Jammers sat at the top of the table before slipping away to finish in second place. Horlock’s side managed to reach the play-off final, however lost to Thurrock one-nil. The following campaign was not quite as successful for Horlock, with Maldon finishing just outside the play-off places in seventh place, with sixty-nine points. After managing 112 games, Kevin Horlock departed in the closed season and was replaced by ex-Colchester defender, Wayne Brown. In Brown’s first season in charge, the 2018-19 season, the Jammers finished in second place and reached the play-off final, but lost on penalties against local rivals, Heybridge Swifts. The 2019-20 season was one to remember for the club, but for the right and wrong reasons. The club achieved great things in the Emirates FA Cup. Having reached the First Round proper of the competition, Maldon beat League Two side, Leyton Orient away from home, taking over 600

fans to the home of The O’s, with the goals coming from Danny Parish and a superb solo goal from Jorome Slew. In the second round proper, Maldon were drawn against Football League side, Newport County with the game being shown live on National Television– with the Jammers only beaten by the League Two side, with a goal in stoppage time, with the game finishing 1-0. A record attendance of 1876 was recorded. However, the 2019-20 season will also be remembered for the wrong reasons. After impressive performances on the field, the Jammers found themselves top of the Isthmian Division One North, thirteen points clear with four games in hand, when disaster struck. With a global pandemic declared, as a result of Coronavirus, the league competition was formally abandoned on 26 March 2020, with all results from the season being expunged, and no promotion or relegation taking place to, from, or within the division. The club were denied a chance of promotion and forced to remain in the Division One North for the 2020-21 season.

ED GARTY STEPPED DOWN AS CHAIRMAN IN OCTOBER 2020 Following the disappointing end to the 2019-20 season, Wayne Brown remained in charge of the club and wholesale changes in the playing squad occurred again, with a number of the previous season’s squad securing transfers to clubs higher up the football pyramid. The Jammers were dealt a big blow in October 2020 when owner and Chairman Ed Garty stood down from his position with immediate effect, ending a challenging ten years at the helm. After a period of uncertainty for

the football club, General Manager Ron Dangerfield was confirmed as the new Chairman, with Richard Cowling taking ownership of the football club. Just like the 2019-20 season, the 2020-21 campaign was terminated with promotion and relegation denied for all the sides competing in the Division One North. However, prior to the curtailment the Jammers had reached the Emirates FA Cup First Round for the second successive season, this time losing to Morecambe 1-0 in front of the television cameras. Brown’s side also achieved their longest ever run in the Buildbase FA Trophy, eventually losing to Gloucester City. The Jammers were only able to play in five league games, finishing in third place before the season was curtailed. Heading in to the 2021/22 season, Wayne Brown remains in charge of the first team and is now the club’s longest-serving manager, holding the record for the most games managed in charge of Maldon & Tiptree Football Club.
