Finding solutions that work
Last week, I was forwarded an email from a broker who accompanied us on a boat during SAIL 2025. She wrote: “Thanks again for the unforgettable day. Everything organised to perfection, a nice group of people, a wonderful event... It was DUPI-worthy.” That last sentence made me smile. DUPI-worthy. She knew exactly what to expect: professional and fun. And that’s exactly how we work. Serious about our profession, easy going in interactions.
Our partners speak directly to Dupians who know their trade inside out - without detours. And we combine that expertise with our DUPI touch: businesslike and convivial. After almost a year at the helm of DUPI, I see every day that this is what makes us special: not only the results we achieve, but especially the way we do it. This is also noticed at SMABTP, our parent company. Pierre Esparbes, CEO of the group, put it aptly: ‘DUPI’s strength lies in thinking in tailor-made solutions for clients, to stay relevant’.
Serious about our profession, easy going in our approach.
With SMABTP as a committed parent company, we have the strength to realise our ambitions and reinforce our growth story. Later in this magazine, you can read more about how SMABTP’s support strengthens us. Our ambition for the coming years was not conceived behind a desk, but together with 50 colleagues from all corners of DUPI. From underwriters and claim handlers to support and staff, everyone thought along.
That led to a business plan that truly resembles our vision. We call it Growing Together and that title says it all. In this magazine, you can see what this means in concrete terms for each product line: what we promise and what we are doing towards the renewals of 2026. In our own way: direct, practical and always with an eye for what really matters. Because in the end, that’s what it’s all about: finding solutions together that work.
CEO DUPI Group
Looking Participate. Solutions.
Entrepreneurs can rely on us
We love challenges. Our goal? To find solutions that strike the right balance between price, conditions and risk management - for brokers and their clients. The best solutions are not created behind a desk, but in cooperation with partners who are as entrepreneurial as we are.
Entrepreneurs count on us to manage their risks, so they can focus on what they do best: growing their business.
No standard approach
Every business is different. Therefore, there is no one-size-fits-all for business risks. If the right cover is not available, we explore ways to create a suitable alternative. We recognise the drive of entrepreneurs because we share the same mentality: looking ahead, seizing opportunities, building solutions.
We closely follow the world around us - from geopolitical developments to increasing legalisation and new market risks. We tailor our products and service accordingly. Not only for the risks of today, but also for those of tomorrow.
Where others stop, we continue.
Looking ahead. Participate. Solutions.
Our value in practice
Insurance is people work. At DUPI, underwriters and claims handlers pull together to ensure quality, speed and consistency.
Claims is the moment of truth. That’s when we prove our value with a thoughtful claims team that understands good claims handling makes the difference between a satisfied and a disappointed client.
Targeted strategy
Our product focus is broad: Marine & P&I, CAR/Engineering, Property, Casualty, Accident & Health and Renewable Energy. We listen carefully to the market. New risks? Then we develop solutions for them.
We do not grow for the sake of growing but take strategic steps that add value. The future brings more complex risks, and we actively seek opportunities through existing carriers as well as new partners. Staying relevant means continuing where others stop. Additionally, we are strengthening our proxy portfolio and investing in risk management capacity.
The best of both worlds
Most of our business is supported by the capacity of our parent company, SMABTP - a solid mutual insurer with top ratings (A+ stable outlook from Fitch and S&P) and a solvency ratio of 245%. For additional or specialist risks, we leverage our MGA structure with other carriers. Our hybrid model gives us the best of both worlds: flexibility and stability.
European strength, Dutch roots
We are part of a strong European group, active in France, Belgium, Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands, Portugal and Spain. This international strength gives us access to knowledge and capacity that we deploy locally. At the same time, we simply remain
DUPI - with Dutch roots and a keen eye for what our clients need here.
Facing the future
DUPI is enterprising, authentic and pragmatic. The insurance ally that thinks along, moves with you, and finds solutions where others give up.
Our promise to you: stability you can build on, creativity you benefit from.
A strong European partner
165 years of experience, still progressive
What began in 1859 as a simple but revolutionary idea - protecting workers against work accidents through a mutual insurance company - has grown into one of Europe’s most respected insurers. Today, SMABTP stands firmly in the world of entrepreneurial companies, with more than a century and a half of experience as well as looking ahead.
Pioneers in construction insurance
SMABTP was always at the forefront. In 1923, they introduced the first insurance contract specifically for the construction industry, followed by the famous global yard policy in 1928. As a mutual insurer, the members - entrepreneurs, craftsmen and professionals - are at the heart of everything they do.
European ambitions, local expertise
What started in Paris has grown into a strong international group with solid European roots. In 2024, SMABTP became 100% owner of DUPI, confirming its presence in the Netherlands. SMABTP also invested in Dutch Woningborg, a leading player in surety insurance for home builders and buyers. Today, the group operates in France, Belgium, Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands, Portugal and Spain - as well as outside Europe in Ivory Coast.
Financial solidity
With over 4,400 employees and a turnover of € 5.4 billion, SMABTP offers the stability that entrepreneurs can rely on. The group has an A+ rating with a stable outlook from both Fitch and S&P, and a solvency ratio of 245%
How DUPI and SMABTP strengthen each other
From mono- to multi line insurer
SMABTP has traditionally been strong in construction and real estate. The next step is expanding from mono- to multiline insurer. This is where DUPI plays a key role. We bring our expertise in Marine and P&I and, for the first time, SMABTP is thus explicitly focusing on the marine sector itself.
Northern European gateway
For SMABTP, DUPI is the gateway to Northern Europe. Our strong position in the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany and Denmark perfectly complement their existing presence in southern and western Europe. Together, we are building a group that is firmly rooted locally and has increasing strength internationally.
“DUPI is an essential pillar in SMABTP’s international growth strategy. We prove how local strength, and an international network go together: by combining regional expertise with European ambitions. DUPI’s market knowledge and client-oriented approach ensure reliable insurance solutions. Together, we invest in a strong future so that we can offer our clients the best insurance solutions - fully tailored to their needs. The future of insurance is local and international at the same time.”

How DUPI’s Claims team makes a difference every day for clients and brokers alike
Claims handling is the moment of truth in insurance. They all agree on that at DUPI, and no one says it more aptly than Rutger van Schaik, International Claims Director.
With a strong team of managers and specialists, he shows how smart, fast and personalised claims handling not only wins trust with clients but also provides a strategic advantage for brokers and underwriters alike.
Strategic anchor
“Nowadays Claims and Underwriting really are part of each other’s processes,” says Rutger. “We slide in from the beginning, think along and pass on signals beyond claims. As a result, we can help underwriters and brokers proactively assess what a client needs. The result? Faster decision-making, consistent service as well as commercial added value for all parties.”
“Anyone can offer a policy. But not everyone can deliver when it matters.”
“A claims handler is not a back-office function, but an ambassador of your brand.”
In one space, in one rhythm
The open office in which the departments work helps. “You hear each other’s conversations. You pick up signals. And you can switch directly, without e-mails or agendas. That sounds basic, but it makes a huge difference in speed and mutual understanding. After all, claims handling is never black and white. Context and timing are everything.”
Claims Director
Claims as a commercial factor
“Brokers are increasingly getting the question: how are things going in the event of a claim? Then you want to have a strong story. And we have that,” says Rutger.
At DUPI, we believe in short lines between Claims, Underwriting, broker and client. Not just when underwriting a complex risk, but especially when real damage is involved. We think in solutions, look beyond the beaten track and proactively take the lead. Clients appreciate that interplay - and that’s where we make the difference.
Rutger therefore advocates more visibility for the team. “Why not just bring a colleague from Claims along to a clients meeting? Clients want to know: who will help me later? DUPI’s strength is in its people. That’s why we showcase them.”
“The strength of DUPI is in the people. That’s why we showcase them.”
Transparent and fast
What constitutes good claims handling? Rutger is clear: “Speed, transparency and clear communication. No vague promises but telling exactly what someone can expect. Even with bad news, clients want clarity. With us, whether the answer is yes or no, you get it quickly and well-substantiated.”
Looking ahead
What else is on the agenda? “Doing more with data and trends. Continue to invest in people. A good claims process requires expertise and cooperation. That’s where the profit lies. For us, for brokers and for our clients.”
The power of focus and trust
“In
the market you hear a lot about growth and economies of scale. We prefer to build on what makes us strong: maintaining relationships, delivering quality and keeping calm. Especially when the world around us is constantly changing.”
Visible and available
DUPI Marine & P&I has a recognisable place in the market, thanks to long-term relationships, clarity and consistency.
“We are often approached for risks that suit us and sometimes also for things we deliberately don’t do. That’s fine by me. Rather too many questions than too few, because then we can have the conversation: why does this fit or not fit? This openness helps estate agents move forward. Being visible and remaining available are foundations of trust.”
Calm inside, strength outside
The maritime world moves with geopolitics, market fluctuations and capacity pressures. Yet DUPI’s approach remains stable. “Risks change, but our approach does not: watch carefully, react quickly and be honest about what we do and don’t do.”
Internally, Jaap also consciously opts for calm. “We have welcomed new people as well as looking at the strengths within our existing team. Colleagues are given new opportunities, take responsibility and develop into solid links within the team.
“We prefer to look at: can it be done, and how? That requires creative thinking, expertise and sometimes just plain guts. Saying no is easy, but that is not where our added value lies. Saying yes is the real work.”
Speed and service are decisive, according to Jaap. “Our team thinks in terms of solutions, even off the beaten track. We rely not only on analysis, but also on experience and intuition. Sometimes you just feel that something is not right. Then I take that gut feeling seriously. As long as it is grounded in experience and alertness, we sail just fine on that.”
Changes - such as the departure of a few familiar faces - also give room for new energy. Our strength lies in the collective: working together, sharing knowledge and daring to build on each other. One is none. Everything must be transferable. That gives not only structure and continuity, but also selfconfidence and resilience. And exactly that makes us ready for what is to come.”
No renewal without attention
Long-term relationships are both valuable and require attention. “At Hull, almost everything is actively renewed,” Jaap explains. “That means revisiting every file, reassessing risks. At Cargo, many items are renewed tacitly, but there too we look closely. If we see something that deviates, we enter discussions well in advance. Nobody wants surprises.”
“That applies equally to our P&I portfolio, which is traditionally renewed on 20 February. There, too, we stay sharp. P&I requires focus and attention to detail, but also pace when the situation demands it.”
Quality is also a matter of communication, he believes. “We record things well, are clear in our intentions. No vagueness. That’s how you build trust, internally and externally.”
New generation, same mentality
Jaap is down-to-earth about his role as manager: “Underwriters must above all be able to underwrite. My role is to make sure they can spar when in doubt and determine together what we do and don’t want to insure.”
How he guides the new generation? “It starts with understanding that we provide a service. You create the product together with the broker and the client. That requires business instinct as well as a sense of practicality. It’s not about three decimal places, but about the question: is it right in money, in risk, in approach? Whoever understands that really adds value.”
Marine 2026: staying the course and with more power
Looking ahead to 2026 does not mean that everything must be different. “We are looking at additional capacity, not because we are falling short, but because it will allow us to serve our clients even better with customised solutions. That is our strength: creating room to remain flexible so that we find solutions that really fit.
But the core of our approach does not change. No wild course changes because ‘the market says so’. We follow our own line. Where necessary, we are realistic, for instance to retain good risks.”
“We deliver what we promise and stand firm for what we do.”
We are accessible, respond quickly and ensure that files are followed up personally. No surprises, but clarity. Only in case of really bad results, we adjust. This is also how we tackled renewal last year. What we promised, we delivered: no broad increases, no unexpected changes. That makes us predictable and reliable.
I like short lines and direct contact: just call, think along, find a solution. That works.
We almost always respond within two days, often faster. Nine times out of ten, we have a solution.
And if we cannot provide one immediately, we actively help to look for alternatives. In this way, we always come up with a proposal to proceed anyway.
Our claims team is very strong. They combine expert knowledge with a solution-oriented approach and ask exactly the right questions. That keeps us on our toes. After all, claims is an essential part of our product. Without a capable team, a policy is of little use. We want to show that brokers can come to us not only for coverage, but above all for security and commitment.
“
Lead Underwriter Marine Cargo
“
As MGA, we work with a fixed group of capacity providers, which gives stability in a dynamic market. In doing so, SMABTP provides us with financial backing and space to develop solutions that really suit our clients. This is how we combine security with creativity.
Geopolitical tensions, legalisation, changing client needs. You can’t wait and see, you must think ahead. That is why, for example, we have set up a new war facility, which allows us to insure charterers even in sensitive areas.
Our focus is on Europe. Here, we see many opportunities with medium-sized operators and commodity traders - not only in insurance, but also in legal support. The international dynamics of our market require flexibility and therefore local knowledge as well as global coverage. Our team, with colleagues from different countries, is as diverse as the market we serve. English is the standard language in our business, but we still help inland navigation clients in their own language. This way, every client feels at home with us.
We do not want to be an anonymous insurer. We actively think along, come up with alternatives and are honest in what is and what is not possible. That approach works - especially when things get complicated
“
Head of P&I and Charterers Liability
Associate Director Marine Cargo “ “
As a former broker, I know how important it is to move quickly and be clear.
Brokers don’t want noise or surprises - they want clarity and to know where they stand. My experience in logistics liability helps to get to the bottom of complex risks quickly. I know what matters to clients. This practical knowledge allows me to get to the heart of the matter quickly, without detours.
It may sound solid, but precisely because so much is going on worldwide - escalating geopolitical, ecological, social and technological challenges - stability and continuity are more important than ever. Our Marine Cargo team is close-knit. We switch quickly, keep each other on our toes and actively think along with brokers. We share a lot with each other and follow the motto ‘two always know more than one.’ This is reflected in the quality of our solutions.
Brokers know, at DUPI we can find everything we need under one roof. Those looking for a solution to a cargo risk might also be helped by our charterer’s liability products. And it should be as simple as that.
When things get complicated, they call us. And then we solve it.
You don’t build trust in one conversation. You do that by showing every day that you stand by what you say. In our world, we are dealing with big interests, technical dossiers and a lot of dynamics - it is precisely then that predictability is important. We do not steer towards general adjustments but look at what is needed per dossier. And we are clear about this well in advance. Whether it is a tailor-made construction or a limit increase, we think along with you. In some cases, we can still arrange something extra on top of the standard capacity. That makes all the difference for brokers and clients.
You hear more in a personal conversation. You sense where there is space, you can explore ideas and shape something together. That works better than five emails back and forth and leads faster to an agreement.
As a member of the IUMI Hull Committee, I stay alert to international trends, which I share with colleagues and brokers. In doing so, you help each other look ahead better.
We have something special in the Netherlands, with short lines of communication between brokers and insurers. We should cherish that.

DUPI p&I
For EURO P&I, we will soon be discussing possible changes that will take effect on 20 February 2026. The decisions regarding this will be made in November 2025. As usual, we will then inform all EURO P&I clients individually about the choices made.
For Charterers Liability, we will draw up an individual proposal for each client.

New construction methods, sustainable energy solutions, innovative constructions - these are not risks that DUPI’s CAR / Engineering team shies away from. Based on deep technical knowledge and with a healthy dose of guts, the team goes along with developments in the fields of energy transition and timber construction, for example.
Led by Michiel Ebeling Koning, the team shows that sharp analyses, short lines of communication and real commitment go perfectly well with solid underwriting. “Whether it’s a solar farm, high-rise building or a BESS installation: we don’t look away,” says Michiel. “We think along, stay in dialogue and look for solutions. No standard coverages, but tailor-made solutions with intelligence.”
This approach works: from the market, we receive clear appreciation for our speed, transparency and room for dialogue. “We are visibly and tangibly a reliable and decisive partner,” says Michiel. “Moreover, we strive for long-term relationships with our business partners, enabling us to offer stability. If a client’s business is down one year, we are happy to discuss how we can improve the risk.”
The team deliberately chooses leading positions on contracts. Not to dictate, but to provide direction. “We are a substantive sparring partner. We take responsibility but remain accessible and keep room for dialogue. Exactly that is what is appreciated.”
“Give us a complex project and we will make it insurable. With common sense.”
Extensions with vision
Last year, we promised clarity, speed and customisation in our renewal policy and we have delivered on that promise. From the start of the season, we again put our faith in clear proposals and open communication.
Room for enterprise
As part of the SMABTP Group, DUPI operates independently and entrepreneurially. The parent company’s stable long-term vision gives room to make choices that fit its own course.
“Seeing opportunities, switching quickly and staying close to the market.”
“We get the confidence to do our work our way,” says Michiel. “That means seeing opportunities, moving fast and staying close to the market. SMABTP understands that and that only strengthens us.” That trust gives us the freedom to deploy other risk carriers smartly alongside SMABTP, always to the client’s benefit. From dyke reinforcement to data centre.
Our appetite is broad, but our focus is sharp. From housing construction to timber construction, from wet works to data centres: it is precisely in complex risks that DUPI’s strength lies.
“We make risks transparent and translate them into insurable solutions. That’s where our added value lies. We don’t do everything but what we do, we do well. With knowledge, realism and conviction.”
What really sets us apart is our involvement in the sustainability and energy transition of the construction sector. “We follow these developments closely,” says Michiel. “Not by jumping on everything, but by making wellconsidered choices based on expertise and technical depth. We want to be and remain relevant precisely there.”
We also offer integrated cover: CAR combined with AVB, Design, and Work Equipment. In addition, we differentiate ourselves by also offering CAR in combination with FGM. “We see that components like Machinery Breakdown and Business Interruption deserve more attention,” adds Michiel. “Specifications and insured amounts sometimes receive too little attention from the client, resulting in insured interests being out of date. We continue to actively point this out to brokers.”
Strong team, strong dynamics
What makes the team special? The mix of experience, energy and cooperation. “Everyone plays their part, there is a critical eye and a lot of laughter. You can feel that dynamism in everything: the quality of the work, the speed of switching, the atmosphere in the office.” Our team was further strengthened last year with the arrival of Niek Vonk. “Niek is a walking encyclopaedia when it comes to technology, claims and underwriting. But above all, he is someone who shares his knowledge. Towards the younger generation, he asks questions like: ‘how would you approach this?’ That really helps them move forward. That’s how you build a strong team for the future.”
Looking ahead with energy
The bar for 2026 is also high. We will continue to invest in deepening, cooperation and knowledge sharing - within our team, with clients in the Netherlands and with colleagues elsewhere in Europe.
“The great thing about being part of an international group is that knowledge exchange comes naturally,” says Michiel. “More and more, we share our experiences with colleagues in France and spar about an approach that already works there. This exchange keeps us on our toes and takes us all further.”
We also want to increase our visibility in the market even further. “We have the knowledge, the capacity and the energy to really make a difference,” says Michiel. “We are proud of our current state but remain ambitious and want to continue to grow. Ideally, brokers will call us not only when things get complicated, but before they get complicated. And yes, we will remain the nicest insurer with the nicest office in the Netherlands. Doing business is allowed to be fun.”
“We are a valuable sparring partner. We take responsibility but remain accessible and keep room for dialogue. That is exactly what is appreciated.”
GENERAL PRINCIPLES

n In principle, we do not cancel policies with a loss ratio < 60% of the net premium.
n If the loss ratio is higher, we look at the policy individually, with the aim of continuation in a manner acceptable to all parties.

Always available, always involved
Personal contact remains indispensable
At some places, when you call you get a tape, you first must dial three times, wait and hope that you end up speaking to someone. At DUPI, things are different. If you call the Casualty team, you get someone on the phone right away. No tape, no menu, no frustration. Just a colleague you know and who will help you further. “That might sound like a detail,” says Bernadette Bode, Underwriting Director Casualty. “But it isn’t. It is exactly that human contact that makes brokers know how to find us and keep coming back.”
Short, quick and personal
Responding quickly, thinking along practical lines and providing tailormade solutions. That typifies the Casualty team. Whether it concerns a multinational or an SME, the approach remains personal. “It’s not about procedures, but about people who are really there for you.”
This will remain the common thread in the future, too. “We emphatically want to expand in professional and corporate liability,” Bernadette says. “Not with quick standard products, but with sustainable, industry-specific solutions that last for years.” The Casualty team sees growth opportunities in sectors such as machinery parks, trading companies, real estate, housing associations and retail. There also remains room for further development and investment in the construction industry. de retail. Ook in de bouw blijft ruimte voor verdere ontwikkeling en investering.
Accessible for large and small “DUPI’s greatest strength?” says Bernadette. “That we continue to help everyone. Not just large companies, but especially SMEs.” She takes it for granted: fast, personal service for every client.
“It’s about solutions that are built to last and that are personal to the core and relevant to the market in which we operate.”
“For many entrepreneurs, being able to move quickly is crucial. Then you want to speak to someone who knows your situation and can act immediately.”
Personal and fast communication is the starting point. Thanks to our online directory, estate agents immediately know who to call, so that questions go straight to the right person. And with a minimum premium of €1,500, we also remain interesting for a broad group of relations, precisely where others often drop out.’’
- are not released in principle. If a client has seen one claim over several years, we handle it carefully.”
And if an adjustment does come? “Then we make sure the proposal is on time, at least 30 days in advance, but often even sooner.” The result: no surprises but calm in the market. “We select wisely at the gate, so we don’t have to make extreme adjustments later. That gives confidence.”
“For many entrepreneurs, it is crucial to be able to move quickly. Then you want to speak to someone who knows your situation and can act immediately.”
Predictable where it has to be, creative where it can be
For the renewal season, stability is again the key word. “We want brokers and clients to know exactly where they stand,” Bernadette explains. “Policies with a healthy claim load - for example, a loss ratio below 60 per cent
From standard policy to sector solution
What sets the team apart is their ability to develop industry-specific solutions. “We are increasingly looking at specific sectors or industry associations,” Bernadette explains.
“This provides economies of scale as well as a much better understanding of risks.” Bernadette emphasises that this is always a joint approach. The team works closely with brokers to create coverage that specifically matches the risks and activities of a specific sector. Where possible, they develop standard tariffs so that it is clear in advance what can be expected. This makes the process more transparent, predictable and faster.
Sector solutions also allow you to better understand the most common claims within a sector.
“Then you start looking at preventive measures together with brokers and clients, instead of just increasing the premium. That’s thinking along and that makes you a real sparring partner.’’
A team with energy
The strength of the Casualty team is not only in their approach, but also in their character. “We are young, versatile and energetic. Everyone has a different background: from building houses to building new solutions. That sometimes makes for spirited discussions, but it’s precisely this mix of
perspectives that helps us look at risks from different angles and come up with better solutions.”
Insurance can also just be fun
Since the full takeover by SMABTP, Bernadette notices that the stability and strength of her team have further increased. But the scope to do what the team believes in - providing cus-tomised solutions with a human touchremains fully intact.
“SMABTP provides a solid foundation, but at the same time leaves us room to fulfil our role as Managing Agent. Where necessary, we can look outside the box to deliver customised solutions. That is not a given in the market.” In terms of content, the cooperation is intensive. “We work hard to bring SMABTP into the dynamics of the Dutch casualty market. We do that with papers, knowledge sharing and concrete practical examples. That mutual learning makes us stronger.”
“DUPI is not only about policies and conditions, but mainly about relationships and trust,” Bernadette says. “In the coming years, too, we want to stay close to the market, especially for the smaller SMEs where others are retreating.”
“Insurance may be serious work, but together we make it something that inspires trust and offers new opportunities.”
GENERAL PRINCIPLES DUPI casualty
n Healthy policies and portfolios (loss ratio < 60% or only one claim in several years) will in principle remain unaffected.
n If the loss ratio is higher, we look at the policy individually, with the aim of continuation in a manner acceptable to all parties.
n If we release a policy for other reasons, we give clear arguments.
n Our renewal proposal comes at least 30 days before the renewal date, often even earlier.
n We apply a minimum premium of €1,500, making it possible to insure even small risks.
n We develop industry-specific insurance solutions for specific sectors in cooperation with the broker, including standard rates.
n We think along preventively, our approach focuses on damage prevention for common claims, not just on premium increases
We write most of our business with capacity from SMABTP. We deploy our MGA structure with other carriers for additional or specialised risks. find out more about our insurance solutions or Casualty capacity: contact us or visit www.dupi.com/solutions/casualty-en/
For DUPI Property, growth is not an end, but the result of investing in relationships, professionalism, continuity, high service orientation and fast response time. In a market where capacity is not scarce, Paul de Koning, Underwriting Director Property, chooses not to shout louder, but to be distinctive. With a clear ambition: to act more often as a leading insurer, combined with deploying in-house risk consultants. “We want to not only claim that leading role but also fulfil it. By being faster, communicating more clearly, daring to make choices. Brokers are looking for a party that thinks and participates. That is where we make the difference.
More capacity, more responsibility
Since the recent capacity increase from SMABTP, there is room to grow - not only in volume, but especially in role and position. “We deliberately focus on the SME and midmarket segment in the broadest sense,” says Paul. “From medium-sized
industrial and commercial risks, real estate, VvEs, municipalities and educational institutions. These are markets where we can move quickly and where our added value is immediately visible, especially when combined with our own inspection apparatus: DUPI’s Risk Consulting team.”
Substantive depth
The difference is not in what you say, but in how you conduct the conversation. “With us, a rejection is not an end point, but the beginning of a dialogue,” says Paul. “What can be done? Where is there room? This is how we help brokers move forward. And that is seen.
“We have the capacity. The leadership. And the confidence of the market. Now it’s time to take responsibility too.”
Increasingly, we are involved at an early stage, even if another party is already on it.”
Within Property, the focus is not on volume, but on substantive depth. “We give estate agents insight: we show what we see at segment level, and we share our data. That really helps them.”
That proactive attitude is in the team’s DNA. “We actively follow up offers, don’t leave things lying around and make sure we keep up the pace. And we can be reached in the way that suits the estate agent: by phone, e-mail and e-mail. Whatever works, that’s what we do.”
Switching faster
According to Paul, the difference is not only in what you say, but also in what you do. “Our files are always in order and that’s noticeable when it gets busy. We contact them ourselves if something remains outstanding, keeping the lines of communication short. This is not an exception, but our standard way of working. A response within 24 to 48 hours is the norm with us. Brokers can build on that.”
Cooperation between theory and practice
A key pillar in that approach is the cooperation with DUPI’s risk consultants. “These guys bring practical knowledge from their past as firemen. They understand what is happening on site, speak the client’s language and know what to look out for,” says Paul. “That, combined with our insurance knowledge, makes for a rock-solid risk assessment.”
Thanks to this cooperation, larger and heavier risks can be assessed faster and more thoughtfully - a prerequisite for acting as lead more often. “Whoever wants to bear responsibility must deliver. And we do. Every day.”
One team, multiple generations DUPI Property’s team is a strong mix of experienced specialists, mediors and start-up underwriters. “Everyone has their own qualities and strengths: accumulated experience, fresh energy and new insights,” says Paul. “That composition makes us both agile and solid.”
Within the team, there is plenty of room for growth, knowledge sharing and specialisation. “We learn from each other every day and keep honing our approach. That is not an afterthought, but essential to remain relevant as a leading party.”
Ready for the future
DUPI Property explicitly opts for the leading role. “Brokers should not feel that we are there for them; they need to know for sure,”
says Paul. “We don’t think in transactions, but in lasting relationships. With the expanded capacity, the right people and an actionoriented attitude, we are ready to take that responsibility structurally as lead or co-lead. We don’t do that by shouting louder, but by showing it every day.”
Renewals 2026: fast, transparent and tailor-made
For the upcoming renewals, the bar has been set high. “We choose clarity and customisation,” says Paul. “No generic adjustments, but sharp choices based on claims history and portfolio insight. And always with timely communication, clear lines of communication and a solution-oriented approach.” Especially in the busiest of year for brokers, Paul and his team help them with a clear approach: “This way of working gives peace of mind when it matters: clear agreements that result in trust.”
“The combination of theory and practice makes us rock-solid.”
GENERAL PRINCIPLES
DUPI property
n With the upcoming renewal, quality about risk information remains our top priority. Together with the risk experts at DUPI Risk Consulting, we strive for a proactive, incisive and solution-oriented policy regarding risk identification.
n As far as possible, we aim for unchanged prolongation, with a focus on changing conditions where desired. Policies with a high claim burden (frequency/ size) have our attention and are discussed with brokers where necessary.
n Policies that, in our opinion, cannot be prolonged unchanged, we divide within the applicable notice period. In doing so, we always include:
n a clear description of the reason for cancellation.
n if applicable, an alternative proposal.
n In combination with DUPI Risk Consulting’s technical support, we offer increased capacity on existing and new business.
n At a time, appropriate for brokers, we discuss how to further optimise cooperation.

A pallet leaning against the wall. An extinguisher that is missing. An installation that has not been inspected. Details? Certainly not. It is exactly such elements that can have major consequences. Marc van Zijll de Jong and Kasper Kramer recognise them immediately. Both worked for years as firefighters and saw up close what the effect of a fire can be. Now they use that experience as risk consultants at DUPI. Not to put out fires afterwards, but to prevent them in advance.
Marc and Kasper know how risks develop in practice and how to prevent them. Their approach is practical, solution-oriented and always in consultation with the client. Because you make the real difference before things go wrong.
Recognising risks
Marc and Kasper share the same function and often work separately. A new location every day. A different process. Another risk. Sometimes they join forces. Not only because the risk is complex, but also to keep each other on their toes. “And to be fair,” says Kasper, “it’s also fun to be out and about together every now and then.”
For example, together they visit a large distribution centre where lithium batteries have recently been stored. Their focus: fire scenarios, security installations and regulations. They also pay attention to layout, fire load and preventive measures. Without effort, they complement each other. “We often think alike because of our shared past,” Marc explains. “We both worked as firefighters for many years. We know what it looks like when things go wrong. That helps us recognise risks as well as making clients aware.”
Turning risk into trust
Risk management at DUPI is not an after-the-fact check, but prevention. “We don’t come to say what’s not allowed,” says Kasper. “We show what could be improved.” Sometimes that is a simple adjustment in storage. Sometimes a change in business operations. And sometimes advice on security installations such as sprinklers or fire alarm systems.
From paper to practice
A risk may seem manageable but strike hard in reality or vice versa. That is why it is important to look on site and have the conversation with the insured. We then translate our findings into a report. That is exactly what makes our work valuable: the information we collect is crucial for the client, his broker, DUPI’s underwriters and for other insurers. This is how we bring theory and practice close together.”
“We both worked as firefighters. We know what it looks like when things go wrong.”
But it always revolves around the same thing: safety, continuity and insurability of the business. Marc and Kasper’s advice is shared with both the client and the broker, accompanied by practical recommendations and achievable deadlines. And that approach works in practice, they see that clients take it seriously. ‘You notice that people appreciate it when you contribute ideas for solutions,’ says Marc. ‘Not only does that result in a lower risk profile, but often also in a long-term partnership. That’s a winwin for everyone.’
Senior
Risk Consultant / Accountmanager
“Often everything on paper looks fine. But you will only notice the risks when you walk around and face them.”
Senior Risk Consultant / Manager Operations
They also work closely with the various underwriting departments within DUPI. This way, they ensure that an insurance policy is not only technically correct, but also realistic. And that clients know exactly where they stand. “We are the eyes and ears on site,” says Marc. “What we see helps determine how the risk is assessed. Without that insight, you can’t make a good policy.”
Always evolving
Risks are constantly changing. New techniques such as energy storage result in different fire scenarios. “The market is developing faster than the policy terms can sometimes keep up with,” says Kasper. “That’s why we want to keep learning, innovating and sharing that knowledge within DUPI.”
That dynamic makes the work challenging as well as rewarding. “You know what you’re doing it for when after the inspection a client says: your practical advice has made us more aware of the possible risks. Then it’s no longer just work, but real impact.”
