Meet the Artist
Iris Lobaš Kukavičić is one of the most popular and most recognizable artists of Dubrovnik. Her work is unique and inspirational, vivid and breathtaking. Her latest exhibition, named simply ‘Ten meetings’ depicts the scenes of Jesus and Mary, but in an rarely seen way, putting the new light on the sacral art. As her mentor said, Iris ‘penetrates the lively tissue, the surface of the picture’, making her art alive. This is not the first time Iris did something extraordinary and fascinating. In 2002. she did the ‘Game and Games’ cycle, and one part of this cycle, ‘Water Polo Players’ now adorns the brand new Airport terminal of Dubrovnik.

The Most Important Works Iris collaborates with our print newspaper DuList very year, creating the statues named ‘The Positive of the Year’, for the reward of the same name for the most positive person in Dubrovnik, chosen by DuList readers. Some of her most important works are three sculptures set out in the outer space: ‘The Next Figure’, Hartmann’s administrative building, Copenhagen, Denmark, ‘The Group of Sculptures’ set in factory environment of Hartmann-Bilokalnik, Koprivnica, and ‘Plesačica’ (The Dancer), set in front of the Aquarius Club in Zagreb.
The reason can be found in the year 2016, when Water Polo Club Jug CO from Dubrovnik won five Artist and Professor trophies. Dubrovnik Airport decided, as a proud sponsor to mark it by placing an art installation Iris had more than twenty independent exhibitions ‘Water Polo Players’ in the new Terminal C. The art and continues to work every day, either as an artist installation consists of seven figures suspended in or as a professor on the University of Dubrovnik on the airfield in a way to simulate the match and is the Department of Art and Restoration.
