2010 - ten years of dub magazine and a year that will separate the sheep from the wolves. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again - and lately it seems that I am damn right – it is only in times of great challenges and money restrictions that you see the real face of most people. Just take a look at our politicians, be it the local ones that are involved in money laundry, corruption or falsification of whatever they needed to fill their own pockets, or on an international scale where there are some that do not know any limit to push their own ego to the max. One said the other day that the consumption of Dutch chicken is responsible for people becoming homosexual - WHAT? Others blame - as usual - their predecessor for their own incompetence to really change things. By the way – “yes we can” is not the phrase the president of the USA will be famous for - it is more his inability to change anything in a system that is so stuck in its own hierarchy that they decided to spend even more money they do not have in order to plunge the world’s financial balance at any cost. Their inability to deal with the world’s worst environmental catastrophe within the last I-don’t-know-how-many-years, i.e. the explosion of BP’s oil platform in the gulf of Mexico, is just another example of how modern politics work... Now they opt for burning the thousands of tons of oil that cover the ocean from one horizon to the other... Are we all raving mad??? Anyway, I don’t want to (sp)oil your holidays here as the money you spend is surely the result of hard work. But always keep in mind that we are all one - plants, animals and human beings, this is one holy circle that needs to be respected at any cost the funny thing is it doesn’t cost a cent if you do it in a respectful way. Money only plays a key role when it comes down to profit - or to reverse a process that is manmade in order to exploit our planet for our own selfishness. If the Mayans are right - and it looks like they are - we will enter a new era of consciousness very soon where it all comes down to each individual to vibrate at a higher frequency in order to survive - that means we will be driven by instinct and not money so let’s celebrate this summer as we like to do it - having a good time and sharing it with others, being kind, good and unique just by being ourselves. And always remeber - DONT DRUG AND DRIVE. See you soon somewhere on this beautiful island, thanx for taking your time to read and enjoy life - because life is what you make of it.

Lo he dicho en otras ocasiones y lo vuelvo a repetir –y últimamente parece que tengo razón, caray–: solo en épocas de grandes retos y restricciones financieras las personas muestran su verdadero rostro. Simplemente observad a nuestros políticos tanto a nivel local, donde los vemos implicados en blanqueo de dinero, corrupción, falsificación o lo que sea que necesiten para llenarse los bolsillos, como a escala internacional, donde algunos no conocen límites a la hora de hacerse notar al máximo. Alguien dijo el otro día que el consumo de pollo holandés es responsable de la homosexualidad. ¿QUÉ? Otros culpan –como siempre– a sus predecesores de su propia incompetencia para introducir cambios reales. Por cierto, el presidente de Estados Unidos no será recordado por la frase ‘Yes, we can’, sino más bien por su incapacidad de cambiar nada en un sistema que está tan anclado en su propia jerarquía que ha decidido gastar incluso más dinero del que no dispone para reducir el saldo financiero mundial a toda costa. Su incompetencia a la hora de solucionar la peor catástrofe medioambiental del mundo en los últimos no sé cuántos años, la explosión de la plataforma petrolífera de BP en el golfo de México, es otro ejemplo de cómo funciona la política actual... Ahora se les ocurre quemar las miles de toneladas de petróleo que cubren el océano de una punta al otro del horizonte... ¿Estamos todos locos o qué? De cualquier modo, no quiero aguaros las vacaciones aquí, ya que el dinero que os gastáis es el resultado de mucho trabajo, pero tened siempre en cuenta que todos somos uno –plantas, animales y seres humanos. Este es el único círculo que necesita ser respetado a toda costa. Lo curioso es que no cuesta un céntimo hacerlo de forma respetuosa. El dinero solo juega un papel clave cuando hay beneficios que ganar o cuando hay que revocar un proceso hecho por el hombre con el fin de explotar nuestro planeta en beneficio de su egoísmo. Si los mayas tienen razón –y parece que así es–, muy pronto entraremos en una nueva era de la consciencia en la que cada individuo tendrá que vibrar a una frecuencia más alta para poder sobrevivir. Esto quiere decir que nos moveremos por instinto y no por dinero, así que celebremos este verano como nos gusta hacerlo: pasándolo bien y compartiendo con los demás, siendo amables, buenos y únicos simplemente siendo nosotros mismos. Y recordad siempre: SI CONSUMÍS DROGAS, NO CONDUZCÁIS. Nos vemos pronto en algún lugar de esta bonita isla. Gracias por dedicar un tiempo a leer y a disfrutar la vida –porque la vida es lo que cada uno hace de ella. 4.1

On the backside, facing the old town wall, you will find OUT OF TIME PEOPLE, not just breakfast but a real spiritual encounter! If you want to have a good valued and filling breakfast you can go to BUENISSIMO in Vara de Rey, always packed and just as good! You’re staying somewhere

outside Ibiza town? In Jesus you have to try the BON LLOC or the SAN FRANCISCO on the road to Talamanca on the left side. ana Negreta on the road to Sta. Eulalia offers you BAR TONI, coffee for 1 Euro! In Sta. Eulalia you should visit the Croissant Show or the MARITIM CAFÉ outside the Puerto Deportivo or the new EL CAFÉ in the Puerto Deportivo (by the way best burgers in Eulalia!). San Carlos hosts the classic Bar Anita, THE reference for breakfast, bocadillos, tapas etc… San Juan is just as original, there the place is called VISTA ALEGRE, or try ECO with their fantastic restaurant. In San Lorenzo LA PALOMA is where you should go, not just good breakfast but a fantastic brunch and buffet as well! In San Miguel you have to visit the ‘Café of the false teeth’ in the market place, coffee for 85 cents! Sta. Gertrudis, still my favourite, offers savoury breakfasts from 08.00h at Can Partit or fancy MUSSET, good breakfast, breads and midday menus are back. If you stay in San Antonio you should visit the very end of the port, there you find the CAFÉ DES PORT, best food at best prices. Or try KUMHARAS in the west end, they stay open the whole day, with breakfast, lunch, exotic dinner and unique Ibiza Spirit. In San Rafael you should try the BAR CRUCE, THE place for

a strong coffee and more. Sta. Ines offers the famous BAR COSMI, not just for Breakfast. You Broke-your-fast? Then let’s go and get some sun. If you are into sunbathing be very very careful, don’t stay too long or use high quality sun protection or your holiday can become a nightmare! In Salinas my first choice was, is and will always be SA TRINXA, unique crowd, balearic beats and high quality food… and try the Sangria! JOCKEY CLUB, the adjacent MALIBU and GUARANÁ are beautiful spots as well. In Es Cavallet, on the other side of Salinas, you can find the refurbished Es Cavallet CHIRINGUITO or the CHIRINGUAY further down the beach, the latter is home to the more colourful crowd - a dream! In Playa d’en Bossa you find hot spots in its true sense, starting with DELANO - fashionable music, cocktails and more - Sands is just as cool and Ushuaia is just as hot… NASSAU BEACH is high quality service at a high price – but worth it. On the very end you find COCO BEACH – my tip is the Currywurst! And Bora Bora just goes on and on and on…! Enough tourists? Cala d’Hort offers the view to the legendary ES VEDRA, 4.1

360 meters of magnetic rock – a must. Sa Caleta is a dream for bathing, as is Es Codolar behind the airport with the MACAO CAFÉ on the rocks. It is situated on a pebble beach, but has crystal clear water – dogs are welcome! Cala Jondal presents Yemanja and Tropicana for food, the famous BLUE MARLIN for drinks - very fashion and perfect to relax, see and be seen. San Antonio is massive, but you have to know where to go. A must is the SUNSEABAR or the GOLDEN BUDDHA round the corner, not to forget Kumharas (once more), obligatory for best sunsets, a place you cannot miss to find the authentic Ibiza. CALA MOLI is a secret tip, after San Antonio head south, follow the signs, it is worth the search! CALA XARRACA high up in the north is a must-see as well, or CALA BENIRRAS next to San Miguel, once home to the legendary drum festival… AGUAS BLANCAS on the way to San Vicente is a perfect spot to take a dip, best water and relatively few people. One real secret tip is the EL BIGOTE in the Cala Mastella (after San Carlos head north and follow the signs), the best seafood of your life. Between Sta. Eulalia and Jesus comes Cala Llonga, follow the signs to AMANTE (Ex Sol d’en Serra), a hidden spot surrounded by rocks, a perfect restaurant, best to relax and chill… We must not forget s’Estanyol, go half way from Jesus to Talamanca, take a left up the mountain and then follow the sign down to the beach, a spot to disconnect and recharge your batteries…

SHOPPING? For sure, you are on holiday! The price range is enormous, but all named here are worth a visit: LAS DALIAS just before San Carlos is home to the one and only HIPPIE MARKET, here everybody finds something really original. For leather you should go to DARÍO BOMÉ in San Miguel, see MANFRED POSTEL’S SHOP in Sta. Ines or visit Te Cuero in Sta. Gertrudis. For souvenirs and fashion go to Histericcompliments on Vara de Rey. You can find all sport brands cheap in LA SIRENA, there are lots on the island. You should visit the old town of Ibiza, this is the real Ibiza, you just have to look around! HIPPYCHIC is another secret tip; you can find it in three places: c/Ses Figueres in Talamanca, Cala Vadella and the Dalt Villa in c/ Santa Cruz. In FASHION PIRATE on the Vara de Rey you can get quality fashion for a reasonable price, as well as in the new Elements from Ibiza shop just next door. The price spiral in Ibiza is very widespread, there are no limits. Possibilities for extreme shopping are e.g. HEAVEN in Marina 10

Botafoch, the NIC in Vara de Rey, or EGB in c/ Bartolome Rosello. As Ibiza has to open as well to the big companies we count with a ZARA this year, located on a road just behind the Vara de Rey.

HUNGER … a basic need, and here in Ibiza you should pay special attention to it, because the nights are very exhausting. Power food is available in various places. Cheap, good, fresh and fast? Comida San Juan and LOS PASAJEROS in Ibiza Town. Fresh fish? Hotel La Marina in the port. THE SUSHIPOINT in Marina Botafoch is a hotspot for sushi, as is WOK&ROLL in Sta. Gertrudis. Want some real Indian food? Try the ANCIENT PEOPLE on the Avenida España, best food for best price, and the Dahl is a must! Thai food is available at its best in BAMBUDDHA GROVE on the road to San Juan or at the BANYAN PALACE on the San José – San An road. Last but NOT least try CASA THAI 2 on Avda. Isidoro Macabich/San Antonio – my personal fave... Meat? Es Canto in Sta. Gertrudis for the best beefsteak. Best Jamon Serrano-Bocadillo? Bar Costa in Sta. Gertrudis. The s’Altra Banda, also in Sta. Gertrudis, offers best fusion food. LA LUNA NELL’ ORTO in San Miguel is one of the most authentic restaurants of all times. It is situated where the first hippie market in Ibiza used to be held! SAPORI DIVINI is an exceptional restaurant on km2 of the Es Canar road in Sta. Eulalia, they have some of the world’s best pastas and a lot more. In Sta. Eulalia we recommend the new SOMIART by Foc y Fum on the esplanade, not just perfect food but performances in a special surrounding – a must. Casa Colonial on the road to Sta. Eulalia is a real escape in another world, best fusion food and service! In Km5 on the road to San Jose you can have fantastic meat in a unique atmosphere, a real trip. A great escape is the BHS (BoutiqueHotelSalinas) just after the roundabout of Salinas, high-quality tasty food in a beautiful setting, and if you can’t drive afterwards you got a room offered for 40 euros, if available – killer! The ES TANCO in San Rafael serves the best ‘Entraña’ (Argentinean cut of meat) on the island. If you want to eat a REAL chicken you have to go to CAN BALAFIA on the road to San Juan, you’ve never tried one like this before, all homemade, from the potatoes over their very own chicken to their Hierbas. In San Antonio we have to mention Kumharas again and again, finest fusion food flavoured with easy beats. Sta. Eulalia is home to ES RICKSHAW, which also does

fusion food at a good price! Expensive and worth it? Sa Capella up in San Antonio, El Ayoun and L’Elephant in San Rafael, Las dos Lunas on the Ibiza – San An road or Ama Lur by the Sta. Gertrudis roundabout. Definitely Atzaro on the San Juan road Km15, you never saw a garden more beautiful and the food is excellent. You prefer fast food? The Huehner Karl in Sta. Eulalia for German style, MISTER KEBAP also in Sta. Eulalia or Albertos Doener in Playa d’en Bossa opposite the former Kiss. Best Burger? DISCOBURGER on calle Bartolome Rosello/Ibiza. Best Sunset Dinner? Definitely Kumharas in San Antonio, the GOLDEN BUDDHA and the SUN SEA BAR at the other end of San An, Benirras in San Miguel, las Puertas del Cielo above Sta. Ines, SUNSET ASHRAM in Cala Comte and, in some months, Cala d’Hort with the view to ES VEDRA - or any other of the countless beaches on the west side of Ibiza, you just have to find it :-) Something missing? Oh yeah, it is what most of you come for: PARTYYY! More than 400 bars, 6 big clubs and 5-10 small ones, at least 300 DJ cabins waiting to be spinned. For a perfect warm-up visit the MAMBO BAR in Ibiza’s port, Next must-see is our most beloved LO CURA by Düsi and Anita, joined by We Love resident David Phillips - finest beats and the best mojitos in town. Next Step is Grial, endless years in a row hotspot in winter and always worth a visit in summer. The Hotel ES VIVÉ hosts its own club with incredible parties – watch out for posters… Another beautiful club in Figueretas is SOMNI on the Paseo Marítimo at the Hotel Ibiza Playa, varied nights in the most stylish surrounding. In Sta. Eulalia you should go to GUARANA, Sundays live music, the other days you can enjoy some of the finest house music. Aura on the way to San Juan caters to the English crowd, DJs like Danny Rampling is to be found there. BAMBUDDHA on the same road will prepare some unforgettable nights as well. In San An BAR M will still be home to the Manumission crowd, offering some mind-blowing rock sessions you cannot miss, as does the Ibiza Rocks Hotel! Ibiza-Origins? Las Dalias on the way to San Carlos will hold fine events like every year. The beloved UNDERGROUND on the Ibz – San An road is another of our living rooms, best beats by Juanito, Justin Fields and guests. Km5 on the road to San Jose has definitely the most beautiful garden; here you meet them all in

the perfect surrounding. Novum on the road to Sta. Gertrudis is aiming to become another hot warm-up place, beautiful gardens, lounging and perfect service guaranteed. ATZARO on the road to San Juan is doing a perfect warm-up job as well, different nights with high class music make it a real alternative. Let’s go to the clubs! Nowhere else in Europe will you find such a high concentration of big clubs. Let’s start with Space, they are back on track with CARL COX on tuesday, KEHAKUMA wednesdays, Come together on thursdays, fridays is BE@SPACE, on saturdays you find CAFÉ OLÉ and sundays hosts my fave We love… Space – their line-up this year is kiiiiller… AMNESIA maintains its status as best global club, Mondays is still home to COCOON, partyanimals in their 11th year in Ibiza... Unbeatable. Tuesdays is Roger Sanchez’ RELEASE YOURSELF on the Terrace, Wednesdays LA TROYA, Thursdays is still CREAM and Fridays is PEOPLE FROM IBIZA, MATINÉE celebrates 11 years Saturdays, finally Sundays is newcomer POPSTARS and ESPUMA. PRIVILEGE as big as usual, TIESTO rocking the monday, tuesday is home to My clubroom, on wednesdays you find newcomer Warung, thursdays go to THE FACE OF IBIZA, fridays SUPERMARTXÉ goes even more ordinary and sundays we welcome TRIBE with locals and invited Ibiza Origins. Si quieres ‘des-ayunar’ en Ibiza tienes varios sitios donde elegir, seguimos recomendando el CROISSANT SHOW. Desde las 7:30 en adelante puedes conseguir tu dosis de cafeína y la mejor bollería… en el SUNSET CAFÉ no sólo puedes relajarte con un café, aperitivo, cerveza o lo que sea, también puedes elegir entre una gran variedad de productos gourmet para llevar. Somos parte de la familia… En la parte de atrás, mirando la muralla, encontrarás el OUT OF TIME PEOPLE, ¡no sólo un desayuno sino un verdadero encuentro espiritual! Si quieres un desayuno barato y que te llene (alto en calorías) puedes ir al BUENISSIMO en Vara de Rey, ¡siempre lleno e igual de bueno! ¿Estas fuera de la ciudad de Ibiza? En Jesús tienes que visitar el BON LLOC o el San Francisco en la calle Talamanca. Cana Negreta en la Carretera de Sta. Eulalia te propone el Bar Toni, ¡café por 1 euro! En Sta. Eulalia deberías visitar el CROISSANT SHOW, o el CAFÉ MARÍTIMO fuera del Puerto Deportivo o el nuevo EL CAFÉ dentro del mismo (con las mejoras hamburguesas!). San Carlos te ofrece el clásico de los clásicos - BAR ANITA, punto de referencia para desayunos, bocadillos, tapas y más.… San Juan es aún más original, allí el lugar se llama VISTA ALEGRE, o el Eco con su propio restaurante. En San Lorenzo deberías probar LA PALOMA, no sólo ofrece buenos desayunos, ¡también hacen fantásticos almuerzos y buffets! En San Miguel tienes que visitar el ‘Café de las dentaduras postizas’ en el mercado, ¡café por 85 céntimos! Sta. Gertrudis sigue siendo mi favorito, ofrece sabrosos desayunos desde las 8:00 en CAN PARTIT o MUSSET, están de vuelta los desayunos, panes y menús a mediodía. Si estás alojado en San Antonio por equivocación o reservaste un hotel ahí deberías visitar el Café des Port al final del puerto, la mejor comida al mejor precio. O te vas al KUMHARAS en el lado oeste, están abiertos todo el día…con desayunos, almuerzos, cenas exóticas y puro espíritu ibicenco. En San Rafael deberías probar el BAR CRUCE, es El lugar para un café cargadito y más. Sta. Ines ofrece el famoso Bar Cosmi, no sólo para desayuno.

¿DES-AYUNASTE? A tomar el sol! Si te gusta ten cuidado, no te expongas tanto tiempo al sol y protegete bien con una buena crema solar! En Salinas mi primera elección era, es y siempre será SA TRINXA, la mejor gente, música y comida de gran calidad - ¡y tienes que probar la sangría! El JOCKEY CLUB, el MALIBU y el GUARANÁ al lado también son lugares muy bonitos, la mejor comida y bebida acompañada de música de ambiente. En Es Cavallet, al otro lado de las Salinas, encuentras el recien renovado EL CHIRINGUITO o bajando más por la playa el CHIRINGUAY, este último es donde se junta la gente más pintoresca. ¡Un sueño! En Playa d’en Bossa se encuentran múltiples lugares bonitos, por ejemplo el Delano, música de moda, cócteles y más, SANDS es igual de cool y USHUAIA igual de ardiente, el NASSAU Beach es alta calidad por altos precios – pero vale la pena. Al final encuentras COCO BEACH, yo recomiendo la Currywurst… ¡Y el BORA BORA sigue y sigue y sigue…! Cala d’Hort te ofrece la vista a la legendaria ES VEDRA, 360 metros de roca magnética… Sa Caleta es un sueño para bañarse, al igual que Es Codolar, detrás del aeropuerto, con el MACAO CAFÉ “on the rocks”. Está situado en una playa de piedras, pero el agua es cristalina – y se puede venir con perros! Cala Jondal presenta el YEMANJA, el BLUE MARLIN y el TROPICANA, todos muy fashion y perfecto para relajarse, ver y ser visto. San Antonio es muy grande, pero tienes que saber muy bien donde ir. Un sitio que no te debes perder es el SUNSEA BAR, o el GOLDEN BUDDHA a la vuelta de la esquina, y no hay que olvidar Kumharas (de nuevo), obligatorio para las mejores puestas de sol, ¡¡un lugar que no te puedes perder para encontrar el verdadero Ibiza!! CALA MOLI es un consejo secreto - después de San Antonio, en dirección norte, sigue las indicaciones, ¡merece el trabajo que cuesta buscarlo! CALA XARRACA en la punta norte es otro sitio que deberías visitar, o CALA BENIRRAS al lado de San Miguel, donde antes se celebraba el legendario festival de tambores… AGUAS BLANCAS, de camino a San Vicente es el sitio perfecto para pararse y darse un baño, la mejor agua y relativamente poca gente. Entre Sta. Eulalia y Jesús está Cala Llonga, de aquí sigue las indicaciones a AMANTE (ex Sol d’en Serra), el restaurante perfecto escondido entre las rocas, lo mejor para relajarse… No nos olvidemos de s’Estanyol, mitad de camino entre Talamanca y Jesús, gira a la izquierda subiendo la montanya y luego sigue los carteles hasta la playa.Un lugar para desconectar y recargar las pilas…

¿VAMOS DE COMPRAS? Claro que sí, ¡estás de vacaciones! Nombrar todos los sitios es imposible así que haremos nuestra selección: Justo antes de San Carlos te encuentras con Las Dalias que es donde está el único MERCADO HIPPY, ahí todo el mundo encuentra algo realmente original. Para cosas de cuero deberías ir a DARÍO BOMÉ en San Miguel, a la tienda de Manfred Postel en Sta. Ines o a Te cuero en Sta. Gertrudis, para souvenirs y moda a Histericcompliments en Vara del Rey. En la SIRENA encuentras todas las marcas deportivas a buen precio, hay muchas en la isla. Deberíais visitar D’alt Villa de Ibiza, esa es la verdadera Ibiza, ¡sólo tienes que mirar a tu alrededor! HIPPYCHIC, es otro consejo secreto; hay tres en la isla que se encuentran en c/Ses Figueres en Talamanca, Cala Vadella y en el Dalt Villa en la c/ Santa Cruz. En FASHION PIRATE en Vara de Rey puedes comprar artículos de moda por un precio razonable, igual que en el nuevo elements from ibiza al lado. La espiral de precios en Ibiza está muy extendida, no hay límites, ejemplos de las posibilidades de compras extremas son: HEAVEN en Marina Botafoch, el NIC en Vara del Rey, o EGB en la c/ Bartolomé Rossello. Tambien contamos con las cadenas grandes gracias a la UE, prmera entrada es la nueva tienda de ZARA, detrás de la Vara de Rey.

HAMBRE … una necesidad básica, y aquí en Ibiza hay que prestarle especial atención ya que las noches son muy exigentes. Encuentras comida para recuperarte en varios sitios. ¿Rápido, fresco, bueno y barato? Comida San Juan y Los Pasajeros en Ibiza ciudad. ¿Pescado fresco? HOTEL LA MARINA en el puerto. Si quieres conocer a una leyenda busca El Bigote en la Cala Mastella, el mejor consejo secreto. El SUSHIPOINT en Marina Botafoch es un punto caliente para Sushi, tanto como el WOK&ROLL en Sta. Gertrudis. ¿Quieres comida india de verdad? Prueba el ANCIENT PEOPLE en la Avenida de España, la mejor comida por el mejor precio, ¡tienes que probar el Dhal (lentejas indias)! LA LUNA NELL’ ORTO en San Miguel es uno de los restaurantes más auténticos de la isla. ¡Era donde antes se celebraba el primer mercado Hippy de Ibiza! SAPORI DIVINI es un restaurante excepcional que se encuentra en el km 2 de la carretera de Es Canar en Sta. Eulalia, tienen de las mejores pastas del mundo y mucho más. En Eulalia recomendamos el nuevo SOMIART de Foc y Fum en el Paseo Maritimo, cena de luxe con performances incluidas – Killer! CASA COLONIAL en la carretera de Sta. Eulalia es un verdadero refugio, la mejor comida de fusión y el mejor servicio. También encuentras carne fantástica en el KM5 en la carretera a San José en un ambiente único, una pasada. Un buen refugio es el BHS (BoutiqueHotelSalinas) justo después de la rotonda de Salinas, comida de alta calidad en un ambiente bonito - ¡increíble! El ES TANCO en San Rafael te sirve la mejor “entraña” (corte de carne argentina) de la isla. Si quieres comer pollo DE VERDAD tienes que ir a CAN BAFALIA en la carretera a San Juan, nunca has probado pollo así, todo casero, desde las patatas hasta las Hierbas pasando por su propio pollo. En San Antonio tenemos que volver a mencionar Kumharas una y otra vez; la mejor comida fusión condimentada con buena música. En Sta. Eulalia se encuentra ES RICKSHAW, comida fusión también a un precio razonable. ¿Caro pero que merece la pena? SA CAPELLA en San Antonio, EL AYOUN y L’ELEPHANT en San Rafael, Las DOS LUNAS en la carretera Ibiza – San Antonio o el Ama Lur en la rotonda de Sta. Gertrudis. Definitivamente tienes que ir al ATZARO en la Ctra. San Juan km15, es un mundo aparte y único en Ibiza. ¿Prefieres comida rápida? EL HUEHNER KARL en Sta. Eulalia para comida alemana. También en Sta. Eulalia MISTER KEBAB o ALBERTOS DOENER en Playa d’en Bossa detrás del antiguo Kiss. ¿La mejor hamburguesa? DISCOBURGER en la c/ Bartolomé Rossello/ Ibiza. ¿Cena con puesta de sol incluida? Pues claro que sí, lo que la mayoría de vosotros viene buscando: PARTYYYY! Las fiestas aquí son de las mejores del mundo… Más de 400 bares, 6 discotecas grandes y unas 5 a 10 pequeñas, como mínimo 300 cabinas de DJ esperando que alguien pinche. Para un perfecto comienzo de la noche visita el MAMBO Bar en el puerto de Ibiza. Después vas a mi amado LO CURA, de Düsi y Anita, a quienes se ha unido el residente en We Love Dave Phillips con los mejores beats y mojitos increíbles. El siguiente paso es el GRIAL, por muchos años seguidos el ganador en invierno, y en verano es un sitio perfecto para calentar la noche. Otro sitio bonito en Figueretas es el club SOMNI en el Paseo Marítimo en el Hotel Ibiza Playa, presentan varias fiestas en un entorno con estilo. En Sta. Eulalia tienes que ir al GUARANA, los domingos hay música en directo, los otros días podéis disfrutar de lo mejorcito del house. De camino a San Juan tienes AURA, con su clientela mayormente inglesa, allí encontraras por ejemplo a Danny Rampling y muchos más. El BAMBUDDHA en la misma carretera también nos prepara algunas sorpresas. En San Antonio el BAR M acogerá a la gente de Manumisión, ofreciendo sesiones de rock para flipar, igual que el IBIZA ROCKS HOTEL, ¡no te lo puedes perder! ¿Los orígenes de Ibiza? Las Dalias de camino a San Carlos ofrece sus buenas fiestas de siempre. Nuestro amado Underground en la carretera Ibiza – San Antonio es otra de nuestros hogares, los mejores beats por Juanito, Justin Fields e invitados. El KM5 en la carretera de San José decididamente tiene el jardín más bonito, aquí te encuentras con todos en el entorno perfecto. ¡Vamos ya a las discotecas! No hay otro sitio de Europa con una concentración tan grande de macro-discotecas. Los martes es A Roger Sanchez en la terraza, LA TROYA celebra los miércoles, los jueves siguen siendo Cream y los viernes aún son PEOPLE FROM IBIZA. MATINÉE también cumple 11 años en los sábados y finalmente en los domingos se presenta la nueva fiesta POPSTARS con ESPUMA. PRIVILEGE sigue creciendo, los lunes son de Tiesto, martes hay My Clubroom, WARUNG se presenta por los miércoles, los jueves son de Baby Marcello + Oliver con THE FACE OF IBIZA, viernes SUPERMARTXÉ se vuelve aún más ordinario y domingos empieza Tribe. Hablando de Salinas recomendamos de nuevo el BHS, BoutiqueHotelSalinas, Düsi y Anita os ofrecen 11 habitaciones selectas, comida increíble y un hermoso Lounge – ¡nuestra rcomendación! Si quieres estar de fiesta incluso en el hotel reserva en los JET HOTELS en Playa d’en Bossa o en ES VIVE, ahí te encontrarás con DJs, VIPs y alguna estrella de verdad. ¡Incluso tienen una pequeña discoteca! EL HOTEL PACHÁ es, como indica su nombre, otro sitio para estar de fiesta las 24 horas del día… Para el agroturismo ATZARO o CAN CURREU son un sueño. EL DIVINO ha desaparecido, esta zona del puerto esta siendo reformada por completa, vamos a ver como queda. DC10 ha vuelto, despues de un año ‘sabatico’ vuelven aún más locos – esperamos que duren! En San Antonio hay dos clubs que valen la pena: Las mejores fiestas de EDEN son los viernes de Pete Tong con WONDERLAND, MONDO LOCO los sábados y el JUDGEMENT SUNDAY los domingos. ES PARADIS sigue con su legendaria FIESTA DEL AGUA. La última entrada es el GALA NIGHT en Benimussa (San Antonio), una bonita y grande áreal para todo tipo de actividades musicales, los miércoles CHANNEL ZOO y los sábados el ZOO PROJECT, unas de las últimas fiestas de Ibiza que son de día. Tienen unos line-ups bastante interesantes…. 10 years of dub magazine - 2001 to 2010 – which means 32 issues with more than 600.000 copies, about 20.000 hours of work divided in more than 25 collaborators that helped make dub magazine into what it is today. Some of them have been with me since the first day, a few even since I started Partysan Ibiza from 1996 to 2000, e.g. Phrank who started as Party-Photographer and became my Creative Director after the re-launch in 2007. Some of my clients also started with me in Partysan and stayed faithful until today, e.g. Cocoon and Sa Trinxa, to name just two. All this support gives me the power to start it all again and again each year, not knowing what will happen as this magazine is a 100% independent medium and lives off its clients, sponsors and the goodwill of my collaborators to make it happen as there are no big wages waiting, mainly the satisfaction of being part of something special that works only if all of us stay true. A very special thanks goes to Dieter Bäuerle who became my first sponsor after I decided to stop with Partysan - it’s always the same in life, you have to close one door in order to open another, and while calling my clients to let them know that I would not continue doing Partysan I also made a call to Stuttgart/Germany 22

where he ran a well-known Advertising Agency and placed some ads in the mag. After I told him to not continue he said “you cannot stop doing a magazine” - I laughed and said I would love to do my own one, so he sent me a ticket to fly over to Germany and told me he would support the mag throughout the next three years. But as things became very difficult in the advertising sector after 2002 he stopped after 2 years and told me I didn’t owe him anything but he had to save his agency and could not support me anymore. After that I decided to cash in a life insurance so as to be able to continue, and over the next two years all the money went down the drain - but it was worth every cent. My accountant told me so many times to think it all over, but the satisfaction of having finished each edition and see you out there reading it equalizes any effort that needs to be made to publish this magazine. This leads me to the next point - you. Without all of you out there this mag would be worth nothing, but the feedback was and still is incredible. I guess even if I wanted to I could not stop doing it - thanx so much for that. Any magazine is just as good as its readers, and I can say that we are proud of you.

So what is there to come? 2010 is the year where we will re-launch our homepage www.dubibiza.com, a page that was reduced to the minimum over the last few years due to financial restrictions and the fact that there was no way to redeem the money needed to maintain a proper web appearance - but the time has come to re-launch this page and make it not just an online mag but a holistic page featuring all you find in the magazine while amplifying its content to the max. You will find more music, more nightlife, more day life, more fashion, tips for a better life, exclusive information about our small paradise as well as selected news from all over the world as this page will be operative throughout the whole year. We will collaborate with lots of great writers, photographers, specialists in different sectors and you will find lots of links to all our friends as I think that, more than ever, it is important to work together to achieve the max. The page will be online very soon, please be a bit more patient as we cannot do everything at once and money is an important factor as I finance the whole project out of the blue - but we are getting there. The launch will be accompanied by an event I cannot announce yet - but you will find out about it. Meanwhile join us on facebook.

So what else is there to say? As usual I welcome all new magazines and web pages trying to reflect Ibiza - you better do a good job or you’ll be gone faster than you think - 10 years is a lot of time... and effort. Todo este apoyo me permite volver a empezar una y otra vez cada año sin saber qué pasará, ya que esta revista es un medio 100% independiente y vive de sus clientes, patrocinadores y la buena voluntad de sus colaboradores, que hacen que sea posible porque no reciben grandes sueldos, simplemente la satisfacción de ser parte de algo especial que funciona solamente si todos somos fieles. Un agradecimiento especial va para Dieter Bäuerle, que se convirtió en mi primer patrocinador cuando decidí dejar Partysan. En la vida siempre es igual: hay que cerrar una puerta para poder abrir otra. Mientras llamaba a mis clientes para informarles de que no seguiría con Partysan también llamé a Stuttgart, Alemania, donde él dirigía una conocida agencia de publicidad que puso algunos anuncios en la revista. Cuando le comuniqué que no seguiría me dijo: “No puedes dejar de publicar una revista.” Me reí y le dije que me encantaría poder publicar la mía propia, así que me envió un billete para volar a Alemania y prometió 24

apoyar la revista los próximos tres años. Pero cuando las cosas se complicaron mucho para el sector de la publicidad después de 2002, dejó de apoyarme tras dos años y me dijo que no le debía nada, pero que tenía que salvar su agencia y no podía ayudarme más. Después de eso decidí cobrar un seguro de vida para poder seguir adelante y los próximos dos años me gasté todo el dinero, pero valió la pena. Mi contable me dijo muchas veces que recapacitara, pero la satisfacción de haber acabado cada edición y veros a vosotros leyendo iguala cualquier esfuerzo que requiere publicar esta revista. Esto me lleva al siguiente punto: vosotros. Sin todos vosotros ahí fuera esta revista no valdría nada. Pero el feedback ha sido y sigue siendo increíble. Supongo que aunque quisiera no podría dejar de hacerla. Muchas gracias por todo. Cualquier revista es igual de buena que sus lectores, y puedo decir que estoy orgulloso de vosotros. ¿Qué es lo que está por llegar? 2010 es el año en que relanzaremos nuestra página web: www.dubibiza.com, una página que se

redujo al mínimo los últimos años debido a restricciones financieras y al hecho de que no había manera de amortizar el dinero necesario para mantener una página web en condiciones. Pero ha llegado el momento de relanzar esta página y hacer que no solo sea una revista en línea, sino una página holística donde encontraréis todo lo que aparece en la revista, más contenidos ampliados al máximo. Encontraréis más música, más vida nocturna, más vida diurna, más moda, consejos para una vida mejor, información exclusiva sobre nuestro pequeño paraíso, así como noticias seleccionadas de todo el mundo ya que la página estará operativa todo el año. To all my fellow inmates on this heavily medicated, insomniac island ward of the global lunatic asylum, to all those immersed in the cut and thrust behind the scenes of the world’s 24/7 party capitol, what follows is a brief summary of essential personal survival techniques, culled from the ancient Taoist martial arts I teach, to help you make it through the madness in tact and come out alive and even thriving the other end in October. MANAGING ON VERY LITTLE SLEEP Your body-mind complex works best on routine. It thinks it requires a minimum number of hours of sleep in any 24-hour period to function optimally. As it will be impossible to guarantee a minimum daily quota, trick it by stretching the time frame over a week instead. So rather than believing you need a minimum of say 5 hours sleep a night/day, believe you need a minimum of 30 hours a week, which though on the low side, will just 26

about suffice to keep you alive and kicking. You can then spread these 30 hours over the week, grabbing an hour here, an hour there, three hours here, six hours there and so on. Also every time you see the sun come up at the end of a night, hypnotize yourself into believing you’ve just had a good night’s sleep – picture it, feel it, believe it. This will refresh you at a deep level. MANAGING ALCOHOL AND CHEMICAL INTAKE LEVELS Play a game with your body-mind complex: see how little (rather than how much) of whatever you’re medicating yourself with you can use to achieve the effect you want, presumably social confidence, energy, enthusiasm, patience, enjoyment and so on. You’ll be surprised at how little alcohol or chemicals you actually need if you remember to relax and enjoy being alive regardless of what’s going on around you. If you really get into this less-ismore game, by the end of the season, you may even find you’ve got it down to almost nothing at all. Also be sure to counterbalance intake of toxic substances with daily exercise, ideally swimming in the sea once a day to get your vital organs working and life force flowing.

MANAGING STRESS FROM OVERWORK At all times, no matter how busy you are, no matter what you’re doing, hold half a thought on your breathing. Keep checking you’re not holding your breath – holding your breath exacerbates stress – and keep reminding yourself to breathe slowly, evenly, softly and deeply. When you breathe slowly and mindfully, your thoughts slow down to the optimal pace and you handle everything in a more relaxed, masterful way. When you keep the in-breath and out-breath the same duration, it helps your mind maintain perspective. Nothing is more important than you staying alive and enjoying it. Whenever you lose sight of that, return your concentration to the breathing and it will reset you. MANAGING FRUSTRATION from trying to get things done when everyone you have to work with is off their head and flakey: Frustration mainly arises from unconsciously still thinking things should work here like they do in other places. This island is unique. It’s the world’s party capitol. Partying is not a normal industry and naturally attracts the world’s more outrageously inclined, hence as the season continues, flakiness and irresponsibility levels increase. But rather than be dismayed or take any of it personally, relax and consider what an utter miracle it is that any of it works at all. In fact, considering how medicated everyone is, how little sleep everyone gets and how many hours everyone puts in, you have to concede it all actually works incredibly well, despite the high levels of randomness behind the scenes. Be grateful for that and for the blessing of being able to spend time living the dream here.

CONTROL PASO A PASO Vuestro complejo mente-cuerpo funciona mejor con la rutina. Cree que necesita un número mínimo de horas de sueño dentro de cualquier período de 24 horas para funcionar óptimamente. Dado que será imposible garantizar una cuota mínima diaria, engañadlo alargando el marco de tiempo durante una semana

en su lugar. De este modo, en vez de creer que necesitáis un mínimo de 5 horas de sueño por noche/día, creed que necesitáis un mínimo de 30 horas a la semana, que a pesar de ser poco bastará para manteneros vivos y con fuerzas. A partir de ahí, podéis repartir estas 30 horas a lo largo de la semana invirtiendo una aquí, otra allí, tres horas ahí, seis horas aquí, y así sucesivamente. Asimismo, cada vez que veáis salir el sol al final de una noche, hipnotizaos para creer que os acabáis de levantar de un largo sueño reparador –visualizadlo, sentidlo, creedlo. Esto os refrescará a un nivel profundo. CONTROL DE LOS NIVELES DE ALCOHOL Y DE CONSUMO DE SUSTANCIAS QUÍMICAS Os propongo un juego para vuestro complejo mente-cuerpo: probad qué poca cantidad (en vez de qué gran cantidad) de lo que sea que uséis para medicaros necesitáis para lograr el efecto que queréis –se supone que confianza social, energía, entusiasmo, paciencia, diversión y demás. Os sorprenderá el poco alcohol o sustancias químicas que en realidad necesitáis si dedicáis tiempo a relajaros y disfrutar del hecho de estar vivos a pesar de lo que suceda a vuestro alrededor. Si entráis realmente en este juego de menos es más, al final de la temporada puede que incluso veáis que casi no necesitáis nada en absoluto. Aseguraos también de compensar el consumo de sustancias químicas con ejercicio diario; lo ideal sería nadar en el mar una vez al día para que vuestros órganos vitales sigan funcionando y la fuerza vital siga fluyendo. CONTROL DEL ESTRÉS POR EXCESO DE TRABAJO A todas horas, no importa lo ocupados que estéis, no importa lo que estéis haciendo, dedicad un momento a vuestra respiración. Comprobad continuamente que no aguantáis la respiración –aguantar la respiración agrava el estrés– y acordaos de respirar pausadamente, con regularidad, de forma suave y profunda. Cuando uno respira pausadamente y a consciencia, los pensamientos disminuyen la velocidad hasta llegar a un ritmo adecuado y lo hacemos todo de forma más relajada y con más control. El hecho de inspirar y expirar durante el mismo período de tiempo hace que la mente mantenga la perspectiva. No hay nada más importante que seguir vivo y disfrutar de ello. Cuando lo perdáis de vista, concentraos en la respiración y os ayudará a reiniciaros. CONTROL DE LA FRUSTRACIÓN QUE PRODUCE INTENTAR HACER COSAS CUANDO AQUELLOS CON QUIENES TRABAJAS ESTÁN LOCOS O SON EXCÉNTRICOS La frustración suele darse cuando inconscientemente uno piensa que aquí las cosas deberían funcionar igual que lo hacen en otros sitios. Esta isla es única; es el capitolio mundial de la fiesta. Salir de fiesta no es una industria normal y suele atraer por naturaleza a aquellos con tendencias más estrafalarias, de ahí que a medida que avanza la temporada los niveles de excentricidad e irresponsabilidad aumenten. Pero en vez de consternarse o tomárselo personalmente, hay que relajarse y pensar que ya es un milagro en sí que todo esto funcione. De hecho, teniendo en cuenta los niveles de medicación del personal, las pocas horas de sueño y las muchas horas que todo el mundo trabaja, hay que reconocer que realmente funciona increíblemente bien, a pesar de lo mucho que se improvisa entre bastidores. Si que han pasado cosas des de aquella vez que nos vimos!!. Se supone que tenía que esperar que alguien tuviera que viajar a esas lejanas tierras tuyas… pero con los temporales y las hambrunas que nos han azotado estos últimos tiempos, la verdad es que hay valor para tal hazaña; sin contar con la epidemia que por estos lados del continente nos han dejado con la mitad de la población de ganado. Supongo que todas estas cosas modernas que están llegando de fuera ... los vehículos estos que de a poco reemplazan al caballo y a las rutas de canoa por la costa; los alimentos procesados, las vestimentas coloridas y poco serias, provocan creo yo un desequilibrio en nuestra forma de vida… te cuento que el caminito angosto en el que nos íbamos a recorrer los salares; aquel que nos dejaba en aquella playa donde aparecían en pequeñas embarcaciones marineros de Formentera a buscar unos cuantos sacos de sal!!!!!... pues ese paisaje; si logras volver por acá alguna vez, te sorprenderá el cambio que está viviendo. El camino es el doble de ancho, los hoyos amos y señores de nuestras caminatas están tapados, ya no hay esa danza de un lado a otro sobre las carretas. Me asusta proyectar todo esto a unos cuantos años mas.. te imaginas que los flamencos dejen de estar todo el año en estas aguas y tengan que escapar de todos estos cambios?? aquel amigo nuestro que tiene su rancha saliendo de san

Qué pasará cuando esto avance de manera descontrolada y no tan solo te hagan sacar tu huerto sino que lleguen incluso a destruir tu casa por alguna cosa gigante que quieran construir??? no quiero ser pesimista pero he oído que en la península hay ciudades donde los caminos los están dejando debajo de una especie de barro que esparcen mojado y luego de unos días este se endurece, que triste ir por un camino caminando juntos, y ni una sola flor aparezca tímida en el camino al lado de una roca o de algún desecho que haya dejado una vaca, es como abrazarte sin poder inventar una caricia nueva. Los remeros están quedando sin oficio ya que esta gente está llegando con motores que hacen avanzar la embarcación sin necesidad de la fuerza humana. Por un lado me alegra que nuestros hijos no tendrán que sacrificar tanto sus vidas gracias a estos avances; pero por otro lado me inunda la impotencia y la pena de ver como aquel muelle de madera donde con mis manos vi por primera vez tu cara y tu pelo!!. Esta convertido en un amarre donde atraca un gigante de oxidado hierro. Se supone que tenía que esperar que alguien tuviera que viajar a esas lejanas tierras tuyas; para que llegaran a ti estas letras….

Pero cogí un morral, lo llené de pan y vino, y me adentré en los bosques de la mano caliente de tu recuerdo cada día mas vivo. Descansé en la esperanza de tus ojos conmigo; Solo llegué a las puertas de mi mal. Vi tu cara entre la buganvilla. Reías con tus nuevas ganas. Estaba todo tu corazón floreciente de nuevas semillas. Those parties are the best anyway as it becomes more and more like the WMC in Miami where the whole city is converted into one big party. We did not create the name Anti-Sonar but if you want to call it that way we do not complain :-)

Puesto que no somos lo suficientemente internacionales como para tener acreditación oficial para entrar en el festival Sonar –no es broma...–, hemos decidido mostraros algunas instantáneas de lo que ocurre en toda la ciudad de Barcelona durante los días del Sonar. Estas fiestas son las mejores de todas formas porque cada vez se parece más al WMC de Miami, donde toda la ciudad se convierte en una gran fiesta. El nombre de Anti-Sonar no es invención nuestra, pero si queréis llamarlo así, no nos quejaremos :-)

Ibiza 2010, it’s the first summer after the ‘big crisis’ hit the world and everybody has to rethink their way of life in order to survive. Whether this crisis really exists or it is just another tool to make us believe that we have to work harder to achieve the same does not matter at all – what matters is the fact that in times of change (let me call it that way – sounds better) it is more important than ever that you stay true to your principles. Do not fear what is to come because these days are perfect to take some risks – do we really have to work harder to achieve the same? No. The other day I read somewhere “how can you expect different results by doing the same” and I thought to myself – even trying harder will not make a difference if you are not ready to change. What I want to say is very simple – the days when we all lived in abundance and tomorrow was just a word for most of us are over. We have to start thinking with common sense; we know everything is connected which means that if you harm others you just harm yourself. And if you go on as always you will not progress but stand still and become dependent on others to feed your ego. What does this mean for our island? If Ibiza is not ready to go other ways and rethink how to attract people to visit the island we will be in deep trouble, and the never-ending discussion of what is good or bad for the island in terms of too many fucked up people will be history as no one will come anyway. Doing the same procedure as every year is not suitable any more - we have to reinvent ourselves over and over again. Bigger line-ups, greater capacity and higher fees for artists is certainly not the way forward, this will only lead to higher entrance fees and even higher drink prices – and let’s face it, they are ridiculously high already. And concentrating the whole ‘movement’ only in the big clubs is not what Ibiza stands for. We have to go back to the underground movement, allow new talents to rise and open ourselves to new tendencies. Small events with a greater diversity will attract people from all over the globe and they will attend the big clubs anyway during their holidays as they are, after all, amongst the best in the world. Luciano and his Cadenza Vagabundos moving to Pacha is a risky operation as the crowd he attracts is not the classic Pacha crowd, but it adds a new taste to both sides - which is innovative. The closing of the parties at Ushuaia is a good example of how to ruin a good vibe by becoming too greedy. If they would have continued keeping it low key I am sure nobody would have interfered, but by amplifying the ‘VIP zone’ onto a public beach and charging a fortune for lounge beds they dug their own grave. Invading the hotel they are a part of, disturbing their neighbours and ignoring the authorities wasn’t the gentlest way, live and let live was obviously not what they were aiming for. I hope this will serve as an example for others to keep it simple. Other venues do it and get away with it, and this will allow us to maintain the diversity we so desperately need. Even some illegal afterhours have nowadays become more of a fashionable see-and-be-seen event than a simple carry-on-partying in a small group. This island stands for innovative parties by some of the best promoters and DJs in the world, followed by one of the most faithful crowds on this planet, be it in the big clubs or at any one-off event somewhere you don’t even know the name of. No big spon-

sor or brand-manager is able to create the vibe they search for so desperately, it is you that does it. It doesn’t matter in what way you are involved in all of this as long as you stay true and do not believe the hype - or as my dear friend Giorgio says so truly - less ego more music.

Ibiza 2010, primer verano después de la ‘gran crisis’ que golpeó el mundo y nos obligó a recapacitar sobre nuestra forma de vida para poder sobrevivir. Si esta crisis existe realmente o es solo una herramienta más para hacernos creer que tenemos que trabajar más duro para conseguir lo mismo en realidad no importa, lo que importa es que en época de cambios (dejad que lo llame así, suena mejor) es más importante que nunca ser fieles a nuestros principios y no tener miedo de lo que vendrá, porque estos tiempos son perfectos para asumir algunos riesgos. ¿De verdad tenemos que trabajar más duro para conseguir lo mismo? No. El otro día leí ‘cómo esperar resultados distintos haciendo lo mismo’ y pensé que un mayor esfuerzo no hará que nada sea distinto si uno no está dispuesto a cambiar. Lo que quiero decir es muy simple: se acabaron los días en que vivíamos en la abundancia y el mañana era solamente una palabra para muchos de nosotros. Tenemos que empezar a pensar con sentido común. Como sabemos, todo está conectado, cosa que significa que si haces daño a los demás te lo haces a ti mismo y si continuas como siempre, no progresas, sino que te estancas y sigues necesitando que los demás alimenten tu ego. ¿Cómo se traduce esto a nuestra isla? Si Ibiza no está dispuesta a explorar otras vías y recapacitar sobre la forma de atraer visitantes a la isla tendremos graves problemas, y el interminable debate sobre lo que es bueno o malo para la isla en términos de demasiados tarados que la visitan será cosa del pasado porque no vendrá nadie de todas formas. Hacer el mismo procedimiento de cada año ya no funciona. Tenemos que reinventarnos una y otra vez. Una oferta mayor, más capacidad y tasas más altas para los artistas sin duda no es la solución; esto solo comportará que suban los precios de las entradas y que las consumiciones sean incluso más caras –y, asumámoslo, ya son ridículamente caras de todos modos. Y concentrar todo el ‘movimiento’ exclusivamente en los locales grandes no es lo que Ibiza representa. Tenemos que volver a lo subterráneo, dejar que los nuevos talentos emerjan y abrirnos a nuevas tendencias. Los eventos pequeños de gran diversidad atraerán a gente de todo el planeta que también frecuentará los locales grandes un día u otro durante sus vacaciones ya que son de los mejores del mundo. Que Luciano y sus Cadenza Vagabundos se muden a Pachá es una operación arriesgada ya que la multitud que atraen no es la clásica multitud de Pacha, pero añade un nuevo sabor para ambas partes, cosa que es innovadora. El cierre de las fiestas en Ushuaia es un buen ejemplo de cómo arruinar un buen ambiente por ser demasiado codiciosos. Si no se les hubiera ido la olla seguro que nadie hubiera interferido, pero al ampliar la ‘zona VIP’ hasta una playa pública y cobrar una fortuna por una tumbona cavaron su propia tumba. Invadir el hotel al que pertenecían, molestar a los vecinos e ignorar a las autoridades no fue una vía muy suave; el vive y deja vivir no era sin duda su 52

This year’s IMS was a clear development in the right direction towards a globally renowned gathering of professionals dedicated to the production, promotion and distribution of dance music in its widest sense. The presentation of the new face of our IMC - Ibiza Music Cluster - was another highlight at the IMS, things progress slowly but steadily - as everything in Ibiza. If the result is to give all of us involved in music from Ibiza in the widest sense a bigger voice, we are ready to wait for it - as it is necessary to bundle all the incredible output that comes from such a small island. And if all the projects that go along with the IMC - like a 100% Ibiza seal given to all real Ibiza products or a big festival that involves international and local talents - become reality we will finally be where we could have been since a long time, at the forefront of electronic music in its widest sense. During the IMS we could listen to some very interesting panels. In my personal opinion the best speech came definitely from Mastermind Mike Pickering, a real legend of England’s music history. He formed the band Quando Quango in the early 1980s, known as the first band that used an 808 drum machine instead of a ‘real’ drummer. But the English weren’t very happy about it, only when they were invited to USA they managed to conquer the floors one after the other, playing e.g. in the legendary Paradise Garage. After coming home to the UK Mike decided to form part of the legendary club ‘Hacienda’ with some friends and history was made. “When the technician installed the DJ booth he asked me where to put the microphone and I said there will be no mike - just DJs spinning records.... And it had the first proper sound system as in those days clubs had home speakers installed.” He goes on saying that nobody thought dance music would happen, but only a few years later it all took off. Mike formed part of 58

Deconstruction Records, signing bands like M People in the early days which he was part of, later came Felix, Robert Miles, Lion Rock, Guru Josh (“that was my fault” - he states), N-Joy and Kylie Minogue. The trip went from clubs to stadiums and from there to massive arenas, and festivals like Cream blew it to gigantism. Then comes the important part, he states “House music is international, you do not hear a difference like in rock etc. Now it is all happening again - dance music is getting its recognition again. Who cares about the different styles, it kicks when it fuses, and that is what it is all about - dance and indie fusion is the key. Now even Sony is asking for a dance music label” (it is Deconstruction Records - by the way)! “Djs become bigger than bands, the audience is asking for it, the sales explode and as a DJ you need to produce and put on a show to reach the crowd on a global scale. It becomes a real gig, there is no difference any more between a DJ and a musician, with all the technical progress a DJ can become even more - almost a magician. The only thing that will stop this development is greed, we can shoot ourselves in the foot - asking for too much money, or promoters doing a shit setup for making big money just on a name. If we keep being fair we have a chance to grow even bigger.” Very wise words Mr. Pickering, this is not only right for the music industry, it will play a key role in global economics and our survival in general. But what impressed me the most was the spark in his eyes when he finished his emotive speech with the words “I wish I would be 20 again, so I could be part of this second revolution”, still sounding like a 20 year old young rookie - and I can tell he still is young at heart - as all of us involved in dance music are.

El IMS de este año supuso un claro avance en la dirección correcta hacia lograr una reunión de renombre internacional de profesionales dedicados a la producción, promoción y distribución de la música dance en su sentido más amplio. La presentación de la nueva cara de nuestro IMC –Ibiza Music Cluster (Grupo Musical de Ibiza)– fue otro punto destacado del IMS; las cosas progresan poco a poco, pero a ritmo constante – como todo en Ibiza. Si el fin es darnos a todos los que estamos involucrados en la música en Ibiza una mayor voz en el sentido más amplio, estamos dispuestos a esperar –ya que es necesario atar toda la increíble producción que sale de esta pequeñísima isla. Y si todos los proyectos que acompañan al IMC –como un sello 100% Ibiza para todos los productos realmente ibicencos o la organización de un gran festival que reúna talento nacional e internacional– acaban siendo una realidad estaríamos por fin donde deberíamos haber estado hace mucho tiempo, al frente de la música electrónica en su sentido más amplio. Durante el IMS escuchamos debates muy interesantes. En mi opinión personal, el mejor discurso llegó de boca del cerebro Mike Pickering, una verdadera leyenda de la historia de la música inglesa. Él formó el grupo Quando Quango a principios de los 80, famoso por ser el primer grupo que usó un tambor electrónico 808 en lugar de una batería ‘real’. Pero a los ingleses no les hizo mucha gracia. Solo cuando les invitaron a Estados Unidos fueron capaces de conquistar las pistas una tras otra tocando, por ejemplo, en el legendario Paradise Garage. De vuelta a casa, el Reino Unido, Mike decidió fundar parte de un local legendario, ‘The Hacienda’, con algunos amigos e hicieron historia.

HELLO JORIS, NICE TO HAVE YOU IN DUB MAGAZINE. YOU ARE PLAYING ‘WE LOVE’ THIS YEAR, WHAT CAN WE EXPECT? You can expect a healthy dose of great underground dance music, mostly house, tech-house and techno with an occasional classic here and there and lots of my own productions, released and unreleased. WHAT IS SPECIAL ABOUT IBIZA? I think Ibiza is an amazing place, but mostly because of it’s amazing nature and beatutiful landscape and beaches. I feel the party side of the island is slightly over the top, but having said that, all the nights I’ve played there have been absolutely amazing. AND ‘WE LOVE’? We Love is a safe haven on the island for quality dance music with an amazing line-up every week and a great crowd. WHAT WAS THE BEST MOMENT IN YOUR CARREER SO FAR? I remember my first time playing in Japan in 2005 was a big thing for me. The whole crowd at the Wire festival with their hands in the air when I played ‘Incident’ was a magic moment. Many great things have happened since, but that was really special. 4.1

WHAT WOULD YOU DO IF YOU WERE NOT INVOLVED IN MUSIC? I’d still be an architectural designer. YOU RELEASED ‘THE SECRET’ ON COCOON, HOW DID THAT COME TOGETHER? I made the track in a lost hour in day in a Tokyo hotel last September (I was also playing Wire that year). I refined it when I was back home in the studio and send it to Cocoon as they’d been asking me for a release for so long. They liked in immediately and so the release was born. WHAT ARE YOUR NEXT RELEASES? Too many to mention, but my remix for Goldfrapp is just finished, and especially the Dub mix is doing great on the dancefloor right now.

La perfeccioné en el estudio al volver a casa y se la envié a Cocoon porque hacía mucho tiempo que me pedían un estreno. Les gustó inmediatamente y así nació el estreno.

WHERE DOES THE NAME PHONIQUE COME FROM? Back in the days I was just looking for a unique name and when you think about ‘unique’- phonique is very close ;)

¿DE DÓNDE VIENE EL NOMBRE PHONIQUE? Cuando empecé buscaba un nombre que fuera único. Y si lo piensas, ‘unique’ (único en inglés) se parece mucho a phonique. ;)

WHEN AND WHY DID U START TO PRODUCE MUSIC? I was just another dj with ideas. So at one point I was on a vacation in Thailand and I decided, when I come back I have to start producing music to work on my ideas. WHILE LISTENING TO YOUR NEW ALBUM - KISSING STRANGERS - I GOT GOOSE PIMPLES WHEN I CAME TO NUMBER 9 - THE REMAKE FROM KRISTINE W’S ‘FEEL WHAT YOU WANT’, ONE OF MY ABSOLUTE FAVES IN ITS ERA. I CALL IT REMAKE BECAUSE IT’S MORE A REINTERPRETATION THAN A REMIX. HOW DID THIS HAPPEN? AND WHO IS REBECCA? Great! I always loved that track. I usually used to play classics every now and then, but when it comes to Kristine W’s original version, the beats and sounds are so 90’s, it’s impossible to play it these days. So I had to do a remake. I made a little instrumental and asked Rebecca and ‘die elfen’ (from my big tune ‘the red dress’) if they were interested and Rebecca’s version was just too good. Rebecca and Pupkulies are a young couple from Berlin. They have their project and have already released some albums. I really love her vocals, it reminds me of the old Moloko days. AND THE IDEA BEHIND THE WHOLE ALBUM? There is no idea. I just produce a lot of tracks and after two years there are some which are just too special to release on a 12”. So I collected them and at one point I decideit’s time for a new album! HOW WOULD YOU DEFINE YOUR STYLE? When I dj, I would call it elegance and energy, but I produce whatever I feel like. It’s all house music, sometimes with a touch of deep, sometimes a little ‘minimal’ or tech. YOUR BIGGEST INFLUENCE? Going clubbing and feeling the vibe. ALL-TIME TOP FIVE? That always changes, but I can tell you five tracks, which have been in my top 5 on my iPod for quite a while: Angus & Julia Stone ‘Big jet plane’ Alicia Keys ‘Feeling u, feeling me’ Zwicker feat. Y DIGO NUEVA VERSIÓN PORQUE ES MÁS UNA REINTERPRETACIÓN QUE UN REMIX. ¿CÓMO SE TE OCURRIÓ? ¿Y QUIÉN ES REBECCA? ¡Genial! A mí siempre me ha encantado la pista y normalmente suelo pinchar clásicos de vez en cuando, pero en el caso de la versión original de Kristine W los ritmos y el sonido son muy de los 90 y es imposible pincharlo hoy en día. Así que tuve que hacer una nueva versión. Hice una versión instrumental y pregunté a Rebecca y ‘Die elfen’ (de mi gran pista ‘The red dress’) si les interesaba, y la versión de Rebecca fue lo más. Rebecca y Pupkulies son una joven pareja de Berlín. Tienen su proyecto y ya han publicado algunos discos. one of those incredibly groovy productions, this track fits in any time or set if you are into the groove. perfect production meets innovative buildup, solid elements surprised by tricky sounds. whenever i doubt on what to play - this one always brings the crowd on the floor to move - leaving them exactly where we like to have them - on the edge, knowing there is a long night in front.

we eat - we feed - we make money... thats loco dice’s definition, and what the hell of a groover he build around these vocals. ‘driving beats and latin tribal rhythms meet trippy melodies’ are his speciality, and the scent of hip hop elements including the vocal sibbling simple rules of life make this one a real weapon on the floor.

out of his incredible album comes this track - for me the most floor-compatible of all. the depth he is creating is unique, the soundcollages are just as trippy - ready to take you anywhere, and the groove combined with an addictive bassline and a fine kick make you move that booty remotely, want it or not. thank god the track is very long so all can enjoy this walk on the pattern to the max.

pierre makes out of the 80’s style typical dgp-synthipopelectro something very much stronger, a beat monster. techno kicks and basslines meet acid synths rolling back and worth, twirling around a deep melody like it would be the most normal thing in life. but once more, before playing trax like these think of what to mix next...
