Take to the Skies

As the world’s largest sand island, it can seem slightly ambitious to explore it in a day. Not for the crew at Air Fraser.

Departing from the Sunshine Coast or Hervey Bay, Air Fraser flies you over, lands on the sandy highway of 75 Mile Beach and lends you a 4WD to go exploring. The touring package also comes with a full briefing to ensure guests navigate the tracks in the safest possible environment - they’ve even designed a list of their must-see locations.

If you’re lucky to visit Fraser from August to October each year, then you can even add whale watching to your in-flight entertainment, and catch a birds-eye view of the humpbacks on migration in the ocean below.

Adventures abound with Air Fraser - now boarding!

THE FLYING FAMILY

Gerry Geltch is the airline’s owner and head pilot – treating passengers to scenic flights over one of Queensland’s most remote and spectacularly beautiful destinations almost his whole life.

And it’s more than just a day-job; it’s been engrained in him from an early age.

Aviation is a passion that runs in the family, carried over three generations. It began in the mid-seventies, with Gerry’s father. He flew some people up from the Central Coast of NSW, landed on the beach and thought ‘this is for me’. He never looked back.

Gerry started to fly planes himself in the late 80’s, although casually mentions that he’s been steering airplanes since he was around 3 years old. Start em’ young, they say.

Fast forward to today and the tradition is as strong as ever, with Gerry’s son Troy also a pilot for the airline.

“I can’t wait to hand the business over to my children in 20 or 30 years’ time, it’d be fantastic to keep it in the family”.

With a love of the local landscape, and eager to showcase everything Fraser Island has to offer, they’ve created a ‘Fly ‘n’ Drive’ tour – an epic way to experience the island’s top spots in a day.

One of Gerry’s favourites: Red Canyon, or as it’s more commonly known, The Pinnacles Coloured Sands.

A place dear to Gerry’s heart, it was also one of his father’s most loved spots, and the place where he married. Featuring 72 shades of red, yellow and golden coloured sands, its striking formation is a natural wonder along the eastern coast.
