World-Class Whale Watching

Every year, the humpback whales stop to frolic in the calm waters off the Fraser Coast during their annual migration.

The sheltered sanctuary allows mothers to nurture their calves, and teach important life skills, whilst the curious adolescent males, or “people watchers”, inquisitively approach the boats.

Measuring up to 16 metres in length with an average weight of 30,000 kilograms, watch in wonder as these oceanic giants launch out of the water in a playful breach, wave their pec fins, and make a splash in spectacular style.

For an up-close encounter of grand proportions, half-day whale watching cruises on the Quick Cat II depart daily from Kingfisher Bay Resort, with whale sightings and up-close encounters in the Great Sandy Strait guaranteed.

Hervey Bay Whale Watch is a family-operated business, led by John and his children Josh, Sam and Kate. With over 30 years of local knowledge, and the longest established whale watching company in Australia, the Peaker’s take guests on a truly larger than life experience.

“We’re proud to continue the whale watching legacy first started by industry pioneers, Brian and Jill Perry, creating an experience of a lifetime for visitors to the region”, Kate says.

Regarded as the whale watching capital of the world, thousands of southern humpbacks arrive in the region from August to October.
