The multi-million dollar water and sustainability project will secure water supply for the rapid growth of the Moreton Bay Region, decrease the environmental impact of effluent, and create incredible growth opportunities for food and agribusiness investors. It is expected to provide irrigation for 2,500ha with the supply of 2.9GL of reliable, climate-independent Class A recycled water every year to local farmers, enough to fill 1,160 Olympic sized swimming pools. It is set to support $100 million in gross agriculture value, boosting the production of local agriproducts, namely berries, melons and grapes, which traditionally rely on water from private dams and local creeks. It will also reduce effluent and nutrient volumes that are discharged into the South Caboolture River.

SCARBOROUGH HARBOUR MASTER PLAN

More than $400,000 of investment into developing a master plan for the already significant Scarborough Harbour will reactivate the precinct and create dramatic opportunities for eco-tourism and maritime industries. Funded by the Queensland Government, industry groups anticipate the strategic plan will investigate the potential of new hotels, ocean baths, maritime museums, community buildings, ocean and wildlife research centres, ferry terminals and boat building facilities. Combined with plans for a barge between Moreton Island and Redcliffe Peninsula, the region has the potential to become a hub for Australia’s $74 billion marine industry. Community engagement is already under way to ensure the harbour remains a vibrant precinct for business and recreation. “A master plan for the harbour could lay the foundations for a range of new and exciting opportunities to secure the economic prosperity of our community for generations to come.”

- The Honourable Yvette D’ath MP, Minister for Health and Ambulance Services, Member of Redcliffe
