Dust-free operations and storage of bulk good can be a challenge. Dust emission is a well-known side effect of the storage of bulk goods in ports, steel mills or other storage areas. The wind is present at these locations; stocks of coal, ores or sand, can blow apart and cause dust emissions in the wider area.

A traditional way of capturing dust around large stocks of bulk goods is the use of water. Unfortunately, water has no binding properties and is often a shortlived, ad hoc solution. This solution also requires continuous input of labour and resources.

A Crust Former Is An Ideal Solution To Effectively Reduce Dust Emissions

EcoCrust S is an ideal solution for dustfree dry bulk handing and storage. Wuvio’s crusting agent does have binding properties, which means that the use of its crusting agents reduces water consumption by about 80% compared with the traditional method. This solution forms a thin layer that closes off the top layer of the stored bulk goods. After application of the crust, dust formation is reduced by more than 90%.

If desired, the crust can be made in colour. White or green are most used, these colours form a signal effect to the environment. In this way, employees or local residents can recognize that preventative work is being done to reduce dust formation by using crust formers.

Ready To Use Crust Forming Agents

Dry bulk storage and handling companies want an effective solution that saves time and money, will be easy and quick to prepare and apply. The ideal solution is the use of EcoCrust S technology, this crust forming product will be prepared in dedicated mixing installation locally or will be supplied ready to use. The mixture is sprayed as a thin layer over the bulk goods, so that a nice, thin and well-adhesive crust forms when it dries. Eco Crust S needs to be sprayed with a water tanker equipped with a spraygun, with throw of 40–50m.

The transparent alternative to EcoCrust S is Freko-Crust. This crust former contains no fibers but has the same binding and protective properties. The crust is colourless (transparent) and can simply be applied with a (mobile) spray gun. The life of the crust depends on the requirement and site conditions. If desired, the crust can be prepared to protect the dry bulk storage up to six months, application ratios can be adapted to match site throughput and turn around times. Crust is unaffected by harsh weather conditions such as strong winds, heavy rain, hail or snow.

Wuvio’s crust formers are 100% biodegradable and harmless to the aquatic environment.

Complementary Solutions

While crust former is an effective solution on stockpiles, it could be less sufficient in other situations. To support customers in finding the best solution for dust control, Wuvio has developed other techniques: Freko-Foam: captures the dust on v conveyor belts & in transfer points;

Freko-Humidifier installation): makes water up to ten times more effective; and Road Dust Solution: keeps the road v dust free (suitable for paved and unpaved roads).

OWN IN-HOUSE LABORATORY

Wuvio has its own fully equipped laboratory at its headquarters in Maasdijk. Its chief-chemist leads a team of laboratory technicians focused entirely on dust and odour control. With Wuvio’s own laboratory, it has the best grip on product development and improvement. Here, through test setups, situations — encountered in field — are simulated. However, the interfering variables that Wuvio encounters in the field are eliminated as best the company can in the lab or are almost completely under control.

In its laboratory, Wuvio deals with general projects, with generic solutions to dust and odor challenges, but we also work on very customer-specific problems in this area.

Using samples, samplings of specific products, Wuvio develops the most optimal solution for each dust problem.
