Consorcio D.I.A., made up of the union of three family businesses, Transportes Aroca, Duramos Transporte and Coordinadora de Tanques S.A., whose mission is providing fuel transportation services for Drummond. “Thanks to our organizational culture and the safety standards that we have been using with Drummond since 2001, we were able to grow as a company and include other clients in the mining sector in Cesar by participating in other requests for bids that we won in 2009 and 2010,” said Víctor Hugo Aroca, Administrative and Financial Manager for Consorcio D.I.A. In 2001, the consortium started with 21 people; now its staff amounts to 161, which represents a 600 percent increase in 10 years. Its progress has also been reflected in the number of vehicles it handles, which during the same period has increased from 7 to 81. “The consortium is 11 years old now and the reason behind our business has largely been due to the growth that Drummond has experienced since, and as they have grown their demand for fuel has been much greater and therefore the transportation volume has increased,” Aroca added. The contractor transports diesel from Pozos Colorados to the Pribbenow and El Descanso mines where at least 300,000 gallons a day are taken in, that is, 28 vehicles. Additionally, it handles fuel for the cranes at Puerto Drummond. Currently, 43 percent of all of employees working for Drummond contractors come from the Department of Cesar, 18 percent from Magdalena, 17 percent from Atlántico, 10 percent from the rest of the country, 5 percent from La Guajira, 4 percent from Bolívar and 1 percent from Sucre and Córdoba.
