Nitric Oxide for the Multiple Sclerosis and Neuroimmune Patient

A NOTE FROM DR. NICOLE

Welcome and congratulations on taking a powerful step in your health journey.

As a clinical psychologist, board-certified clinical nutritionist, and personal friend of Dr. Wahls, I am excited to share with you this guide to Nitric Oxide and the Multiple Sclerosis and Neuroimmune Patient.

As you know, Dr. Wahls has built an industry-leading protocol for treating chronic and autoimmune conditions through the power of nutrient-dense, antiinflammatory foods. At its core, the Wahls Protocol embraces the wisdom of Hippocrates: "Let food be thy medicine"

a colorful array of ds that are rich in y nitrates. These afy greens, beets, ovide precursors create Nitric Oxide healthy blood flow tion. Nitric Oxide, we ood flow, reduced endurance, better and overall better dern diets are often lacking in nitrate-rich plant foods, leading to Nitric Oxide deficiencies.

with Multiple Sclerosis and Neuroimmune conditions who are interested in the benefits of improved Nitric Oxide and blood flow, I recommend adding Berkeley Life’s Nitric Oxide Foundation product as a supplement to your Wahls Protocol diet.

Berkeley Life’s clinically proven nitrate formula provides tremendous support when the nutrient and nitrate density of our vegetables is suboptimal. This e-book will explain the importance of Nitric Oxide to the health of patients with Multiple Sclerosis and Neuroimmune conditions. It will provide simple tips for optimizing blood flow through foods, daily habits, and Berkeley Life supplementation

Berkeley Life is passionate about supporting the work Dr. Wahls is doing, and the members of her community courageously healing from MS and related conditions That’s why we’re proud to extend a special offer for your healing journey. Start your better blood flow journey

Health goes where blood flows.

Every single chronic disease is characterized by decreased blood flow to the affected organ/tissue.

If you can restore blood flow and perfusion to every organ, tissue and cell in the body, you can correct most if not all chronic diseases. Healthy blood flow is the foundation of wellness and healing.

Symptoms related to poor blood flow include:

Fatigue

Brain fog

Cold hands/feet/extremities

Insomnia and sleep apnea

Anxiety and depression

Exercise intolerance

High blood pressure

Digestive disturbances and irregularity

Prioritize optimizing healthy blood flow using the tools and recommendations within this guide.

Compromised blood flow can exacerbate Multiple Sclerosis and Neuroimmune Disorders

The brain is an energy-intense organ that requires a constant supply of blood flow and nutrients to function optimally.

Despite only accounting for 2% of the body’s weight, the brain’s metabolic activity accounts for about 20% of our daily energy expenditure!

Decreased blood flow to the brain’s tissues can compromise neural health and exacerbate MS and Neuroimmune conditions through a multitude of mechanisms:

Low Oxygen (Hypoxia) – oxygen is required for all cellular processes of the brain, including energy metabolism. A low oxygen environment can cause impaired energy metabolism and increase cellular stress, resulting in increased oxidative damage and inflammation.

Blood Brain Barrier Disruption – poor blood flow to the brain can damage the endothelial blood brain barrier (BBB), which results in a ‘Leaky Brain’. This allows more immune cells, toxins, and pathogens to ‘leak’ into the brain where they can increase neuroinflammation, demyelination, and neurodegenerative processes.

Impaired Waste Removal – poor blood flow to the brain can decrease its ability to remove waste through the glymphatic system. The accumulation of waste can increase tissue stress and drive the neuroimmune response that damages the brain and worsens symptoms.

Neural Mitochondrial Dysfunction – Nitric Oxide and blood flow play a critical role in supplying the brain cell’s mitochondria with the necessary oxygen and nutrients to produce energy (ATP) in order to protect themselves and facilitate neuro-regenerative processes, such as myelination.

Blood flow + Nitric Oxide

= the foundation of total health

Nitric Oxide is a molecule that helps to open our blood vessels to let more blood, oxygen and nutrients through. Our bodies use ingredients in our food – like the dietary nitrates in leafy green vegetables and Berkeley Life’s Foundation formula – to make Nitric Oxide as needed throughout the day. When we have adequate Nitric Oxide production, we also have adequate blood flow and optimal access to the oxygen, nutrients, and detoxification properties of our blood. Less Nitric Oxide causes the opposite – reduced blood flow, oxygen, and detoxification – and can have significant impacts on our health.

Nitric Oxide deficiency is linked to increased oxidative stress, inflammation, and compromised immune function. These effects can contribute to the development and progression of Multiple Sclerosis and other chronic conditions.

Low Nitric Oxide looks like:

Cognitive slowness

Reduce energy level and physical stamina

Immune dysregulation

Sexual and hormone health dysfunction

Metabolic issues

Irregular blood sugar

Blood pressure concerns

Reduced endurance and weight gain

Each of these issues is, in part, a blood flow issue.

By improving Nitric Oxide production, we can restore blood flow optimization and improve total body health.*

Wellness begins with better blood flow.

The Nitric Oxide Reset for the Multiple Sclerosis and Neuroimmune Patient

Use the list of Nitric Oxide and blood flow-boosting habits below to incorporate in conjunction with your Wahls Protocol diet.

Daily blood-flow-friendly habits:

Monitor your Nitric Oxide levels daily: Berkeley Life Saliva Test

Strips give a 10-second reading of your Nitric Oxide level. Use in the morning before and 90 minutes after taking the Foundation formula or consuming nitrate-rich foods. Look for an improvement in the strip color around 90 minutes after nitrate intake. Learn More.

Supplement your Nitric Oxide level: Berkeley Life’s daily Foundation supplement provides a therapeutic dose of dietary nitrates in an easy-to-take capsule form. Just 2 capsules a day help boost your body's Nitric Oxide production for improved blood flow. Learn More.

Care for your oral microbiome: The oral microbiome refers to the complex ecosystem of microbial organisms that reside in the oral cavity. Your oral microbiome plays an important role in Nitric Oxide production, inflammation management, and your overall health, through the action of nitrate reducing bacteria that can convert dietary nitrate into Nitric Oxide. Support your oral microbiome with Berkeley Life Prebiotic Gum. Two pieces of this prebiotic gum per day for 4 days can help rebalance the oral environment for better conversion of dietary nitrates into Nitric Oxide.

30 minutes of movement/exercise: Physical activity, particularly aerobic exercise, stimulates the release of Nitric Oxide from the endothelium.

Stimulate Nitric Oxide production through breath: Bhramari Pranayama Breathwork and other slow-paced, diaphragmatic breathing supports Nitric Oxide production in the nasal passages. . Learn more

Follow the Wahls Protocol diet: Leafy greens, such as spinach and kale, are rich in nitrates, which the body can convert into Nitric Oxide.

Aim for 7–9 hours of sleep: During sleep, nitric oxide levels tend to increase, promoting blood vessel dilation and improving blood circulation. This vasodilatory effect supports oxygen and nutrient delivery to various tissues, including the brain, which is crucial for overall physiological functioning during restorative sleep.

Prioritize hydration: Hydration is intricately linked to Nitric Oxide production, primarily through its impact on endothelial function. The endothelium, the inner lining of blood vessels, relies on adequate hydration for optimal performance. Well-hydrated endothelial cells are more effective in producing Nitric Oxide.

10 minutes of meditation: Meditation practices, particularly mindfulness meditation, have been associated with relaxation and stress reduction. Reduced stress levels can positively impact endothelial function, potentially leading to enhance Nitric Oxide production.
