Alcoholic liver disease is a result of overconsuming alcohol that damages the liver, leading to a buildup of fats, inflammation, and scarring. It can be fatal. Alcoholic Liver Disease (ALD) includes three conditions: Fatty liver, alcoholic hepatitis, and cirrhosis. Heavy drinking for as little as a few days can lead to “fatty” liver or steatosisthe earliest stage of alcoholic liver disease and the most common alcohol-induced liver disorder. Drinking heavily for longer periods may lead to a more severe, and potentially fatal condition, alcoholic hepatitis-an inflammation of the liver.

Types of alcoholic liver disease: Alcoholic liver disease has consist of three conditions which includes ▪ ▪ ▪

Alcoholic fatty liver disease: In this condition, where fat starts to accumulate around the liver. It can be reversed by not drinking alcohol anymore. Acute alcoholic hepatitis: Alcohol abuse causes inflammation (swelling) of the liver in this stage. The outcome depends on the severity of the damage. Alcoholic cirrhosis: At this point, the liver is scarred from alcohol abuse, and the damage cannot be undone. Cirrhosis can lead to liver failure.

What are the Signs and Symptoms of Alcoholic Liver Disease? There may be no symptoms, or symptoms may come on slowly. This depends on how well the liver is working. Symptoms tend to be worse after a period of heavy drinking. Early symptoms include:
