MedPlus Urgent Clinic:

A Faithful Work “When someone doesn’t feel well, the last thing they want to do is sit and wait in a medical office. We want to give a much better urgent health care experience,” says Samantha Logan, Clinic Director for MedPlus Urgent Clinic. “Our clinic is an ER alternative for many seeking care for nonlife threatening illnesses. We are delivering health services faster, and at a much lower cost than possible in an ER.” MedPlus Urgent Clinic was opened with the belief that great service can be delivered quickly.

With a foundation built on Christian principles, MedPlus provides a fast, convenient option for patients needing care for many issues, such as broken bones, sore throats, infections, allergies and flu.

“We strive to let God’s love for all people shine through us in everything we do,” Samantha says. “We play Christian music, have scripture displayed throughout our clinic, have free gospels for anyone wanting one and our staff is SnagMob.com

available to pray with a patient. Our staff believes that health care is a calling, and they practice that way.”

MedPlus is a family-oriented clinic, and the staff strives to make patients feel as comfortable as possible. Children are often given balloons or popsicles, and the clinic mascot, Stitches the Hound Dog, frequently stops by to cheer someone up.

“From the time a person walks through the door to the time he or she leaves, we want them to feel like a part of our family,” Samantha says.

MedPlus is conveniently located and open seven days a week until 7 p.m. In most cases, patients are treated in less than an hour. The professional staff treats many medical needs and illnesses, as well as provides holistic care, physicals and worker’s comp treatment. There is also a psychiatric nurse practitioner on staff to provide mental health services. Local massage therapist, Wanda Presley is available to help with sore muscles and therapy.

“I am thrilled to be a part of something with such a wonderful mission,” Nurse Practitioner Natalie Heckart says. “This is a place that is dedicated to providing loving care to patients.

It’s no surprise that Samantha’s desire to provide ministry through her professional work was inspired by scripture.

“James 1:27 tells us it’s God’s will that we care for orphans and widows,” Samantha says.

After learning of the great need for more adoptive parents, Samantha has been working on a way to provide support through the work

and ministry at MedPlus for families wanting to adopt a child. Twenty-five percent of all profits are set aside with the intention of helping families in the area that want to adopt.

“We want this clinic to make a true life-long difference in people’s lives as we share our love of the Lord.”

The Magnolia State’s Shining Light

What started as a small lighting company serving the local community in DeSoto County 31 years ago has now grown into the largest family-owned lighting and home décor businesses in northern Mississippi.

Magnolia Lighting opened its doors in 1984 under the ownership of Paul Whitfield, Sr. Since his passing in February of 2003, his daughter-in-

law, Pam Whitfield, has managed the store for the family business.

The business has grown tremendously over the years, expanding into Oxford and, most recently Tupelo. The original store was housed in a small, 800 square-foot building in Hernando, Miss. Now the Hernando store is in a spacious 8,000 square-foot space and is known to be the largest and most beautiful lighting showroom in northern Mississippi, in addition to their dazzling Oxford and Tupelo stores.

“We have the largest selection of lighting, door hardware and home accessories in the area,” Pam says. “We are excited to expand our business to the Tupelo area.”

Magnolia Lighting purchased The Lighting Gallery by NESCO for the Tupelo store. All of the full-time employees plus one valuable parttime employee stayed with Magnolia Lighting through the transition and are ready to help customers tackle any project.

Big League Movers:

Long-time friends Steve Reed, Jeff Coletta and Jonathan Greer worked for various moving companies in their younger years. After attending college, Reed and Coletta began handling small moves for friends, family and students around campus. Starting with just six employees and one truck, Big League oversaw around 50 moves the first year. Now they have 67 employees on staff and operate 19 trucks in two different cities, averaging around 5,000 moves per year.

Big League can handle just about any size job, both residential and commercial. They work within a 50 mile radius of Memphis, but will deliver to anywhere in the continental United States. Big League also offers free and on-site estimates, packing and unpacking services and transportation of oversized items. Big League also offers a few perks such as the MVP discount for repeat customers.

Staff members continue their education by completing courses from Big League Movers University where they learn techniques and stay up-to-date on changing industry regulations.

They have been awarded the Angie’s List Super Service award countless times.

Most recently, Big League was featured in the 2015 “Faces” issue of Memphis Magazine, which recognizes local businesses that are doing great work in the Mid-South.

Giving back to the community is very important to Reed and the Big League staff. They team up with local charities Toys for Tots every year to help meet logistical and manpower needs.

This year they assisted the Madonna Learning Center move items into their new building.

At Christmas they are working to collect and deliver donations for the Memphis Food Bank and the Grizzlies Foundation. Big League

provides DeSoto Family Theatre help with set up, break-down and moving services before and after performances. Big League donated moving services to help move thousands of dollars of gym equipment to Moore, Oklahoma after the 2014 tornado devastated the city.
