TEACHERÂ TESTIMONIAL Even though many students did not admit it on camera, there were many mutterings afterwards about how relatable Izzy was to them and that they could see themselves in him. I really appreciated Izzy's realness with our students. The chat was very relaxed but gave the students an incredible perspective. I loved that Izzy had a similar background to our students - his GPA, race, experiences, etc. - because it helped them to feel like they could accomplish the same things he has. - Liz Wachter, 12th Grade AVID Teacher 2019 | DREAMWAKERS

TEACHERÂ TESTIMONIAL I truly was pleased from start to finish. It reinforced our study of growth mindset, showing my students in living color that struggles can lead to successes, that dreams do come true. Several students told me that it was exciting to talk to someone who truly wanted to answer their questions. They were impressed that he told them that he is constantly learning. - Kelly Pearce, 7th Grade Pre-AVID

TEACHER TESTIMONIAL This is so helpful for my students, who do not get to meet professionals who are similar to them. They also got to talk about other careers besides lawyers, doctors, etc. - Ilana Ascher, AP US History Teacher

TEACHER TESTIMONIAL It provided an opportunity for my Hispanic students to see an accomplished Hispanic woman with strong self-discipline and love for learning. My other students thought it was amazing that they could connect with a professional that works for one of their favorite online outlets and that language does not have to be a barrier. I asked them if they honestly felt that the experience was worth the time invested including the time preparing questions. They thought it was well worth the time since they would never get to meet someone from Google/YouTube in rural North Carolina. - Cynthia Burris, Spanish 3 Teacher 2019 | DREAMWAKERS

FAMILIA@Â TESTIMONIAL

For some reason, I felt that this experience would make me feel old because while prepping for it I was looking back at some of my high school/early college material and felt I had grown so much from that stage of my life, so I was worried I would lack some relatability. Answering the kids' questions, though, reminded me of how recently I had been asking myself similar questions. The follow up email mentioned that one girl from the class actually appreciated how much younger I was than previous speakers they've had, so my takeaway from this experience is that I should do more of these while I'm still young. 2019 | DREAMWAKERS

FAMILIA@Â TESTIMONIAL [I was surprised by] the questions from the students, their curiosity.

FLASHCHAT HIGHLIGHT

"Try and find things that you love to do and keep doing those things. Eventually, you will be able to find a job that reflects your interests. Don’t worry so much about if the job pays well or doesn’t pay well, because if you are doing something that you enjoy, that matters so much more." Agustin Mora's chat with Ms. Tamara Kerr Ray's 5th Grade class 2019 | DREAMWAKERS

FLASHCHAT HIGHLIGHT "If you don’t ask for what you want, you’re not going to get it. It’s not always going to work, but odds are, you don’t lose anything by asking, by advocating for yourself, and by fighting for what you want.” Arely Miranda Gonzalez' chat with Ms. Katie Slattery's 6th Grade Science class
