WEEK 1: HOME,COMMUNITY,ART ALORIE CLARK Director of Arts Education and Community Programs Step Afrika!
FLASHCHAT HIGHLIGHT Student Question: How was your experience attending a university with a major in Theatre Arts Administration? Alorie Clark: There were only 4 students majoring in Theatre Arts Administration at Howard. Other students didn't even know it was a major. Being 1 of 4 students helped me realize that there is a need for Black and Brown people to major in theatre arts administration because there are so many decisions being made behind the scenes, and in order for us to see more of our culture, we have to put ourselves in those roles. I wanted to dedicate myself to being one of the people helping to spread my culture and art by being a decision maker in an administrative role.
WEEK 2: MEDIA PRODUCTION & REPRESENTATION LAUREN ALEXANDER Senior Communications Manager Twitter
FLASHCHAT HIGHLIGHT Lauren Alexander: What inspires you all? Are there any people that inspire you all? Student Response: The people that came before me inspire me. Certain events like the Civil Rights Movement and people involved in these events inspire me because of how strong they were and how even when moments were dangerous they still fought for what they believed in. Sometimes I think back to that and tell myself not to be lazy and push myself because others before me gave me these opportunities. It would be a disservice to them to not be great.
WEEK 3: COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT & ACTIVISM GREGORY LORJUSTE Chief of Staff ACRONYM
FLASHCHAT HIGHLIGHT Student Question: What was it like working so closely with two presidents, and did you ever think those opportunities would arise? Gregory Lorjuste: It still feels like a 'pinch me' moment because I did not seek out to do the work I was doing. When it did happen, I made it a point to understand the person because I don't like to look at people in terms of professions. Especially because someone else will hold that position eventually. So I made it a point to get to know the person because there a lot of things we can all relate to if we see the person first.
WEEK 4: COMMUNITY & CIVIC ENGAGEMENT CLARISSA ARNAO Inclusion & Diversity People Partner Twitter
FLASHCHAT HIGHLIGHT Student Question: Most of us are seniors in high school or already in college, and I'd like to know what is some advice you have for students in terms of pursuing our careers? Clarissa Arnao: Find opportunities — an internship or a job or anything to build on your experience. Having some experience in the industry you are pursuing can be really helpful in navigating careers.
WEEK 5: PUBLIC ARTS & CULTURE WREN WEICHMAN Content Creator Corridor Digital
FLASHCHAT HIGHLIGHT Question:Â What are some pieces of advice you want students to take away from this flashchat? Wren Weichman: Always try to maintain a passion for learning because the world is changing and the world is changing fast. You have to be able to adapt to learning new things, and the better you get at adapting, the better off you will be. Try to stay hungry for new information because the moment you get satisfied with where you are at, you may become stagnant.
