This is the 19th year of the DRAM Awards and the trade today is almost unrecognisable from where it was in 1995. Tonight we are here to celebrate the achievements of our finalists and how far the trade has come.
LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD
E & PASSION RD FOR PRID A W A Y R T S INDU
Every year we honour someone with a Lifetime Achievement award and this year we also have an award for Pride and Passion which goes to an individual who takes pride in what they do and who has a passion for the industry. An event like this would not be possible without the support of our sponsors: - Benromach, BII Scotland, Caledonia Best, Desperados, Diageo, Kopparberg, Kraken, Mixxit, Molson Coors, Tennent’s, the Wee DRAM and the Sunday Mail Centenary Fund - the Sunday Mail celebrates 100 years this year, and they are fundraising for good causes - its aim is to reach a million. That’s why our charity auction and raffle is all going to the fund this year. I’d also like to say a huge thanks to the Sunday Mail for its continued support of our Pub of the Year category. The Awards would also not take place without our team of mystery shoppers, fellow judges and my staff - Emma, Jill, Cheryl, Vicky, Lucy and Jamie who have all done their bit for this evening. Not to mention Jock, the dug, and Lucy and Tootsie, a massive thank you to them all. And finally to the team at the Grand Central and the long suffering chefs, many thanks. I hope you have a most enjoyable evening.

COMPERE Rob Deering Rob Deering is an award winning comedian who combines an easy manner, sharp wit, physical comedy, a broad trivia knowledge and virtuoso musicianship. A live-circuit and Edinburgh Fringe favourite, Rob’s infectious enthusiasm and warm, upbeat delivery has won over audiences around the world. Shunning the more considered material of some of his contemporaries, Rob is first and foremost an entertainer with charm and charisma to spare. Combining jokes, a cheeky grim and some impressive guitar and singing skills, Rob wins over audiences of any background. Using a battery of effects pedals, Rob creates whole songs live on stage to help him look at how ludicrous rock music can be, the worst song lyrics ever written, and highlight wildly inappropriate songs to accompany certain moments in life. He also points out how many performers sing with bread in their mouths and the similarity of songs previously considered worlds apart - such as Nirvana’s Smells Like Teen Spirit and Abba’s Dancing Queen. Omitting his appearance as a youthful contestant on Channel 4’s quiz 15 to 1, Rob first appeared on TV falling over in the background of vox pops on RI:SE. Since then he’s also appeared on Jason Manford’s Comedy Rocks, Movie Mistakes Uncovered Uncut, Totally Top Trumps, and he hosted 99 Things to Do Before You Die on Channel 5. Rob also set a record when appearing the comedians editions of the Weakest Link by answering every question correctly and has supported US comic legend Emo Phillips.
