It’s a pleasure to welcome my former club, Cwmbran Celtic, to the Orange Llama Stadium today for what promises to be another competitive fixture. Football is so much about relationships and shared experiences and I always feel a special sense of connection when facing a side where I spent part of my own journey.
Reflecting on our recent performances, I couldn’t be prouder of this group. The team has shown tremendous determination over the past few weeks. Earning a hard-fought draw against Baglan Dragons was a testament to our resilience. Our players dug deep, kept their shape, and refused to let setbacks break our spirit. That point gave us momentum that carried onto Tuesday, when we capped off our effort with a brilliant win away to Afan Lido. Victories like that do not come easily. Every member of the squad contributed, holding their nerve under pressure and maintaining tactical discipline throughout. I would like to highlight the impact of Sam Cawley in particular. Sam has shown dedication all season, and it was fantastic to see him score his first goal as well as register his first assist. He was fully deserving of the Man of The Match award.
Today’s match offers a further opportunity not only to build on recent results, but to give our younger players and new faces a platform to stake their claim. There’s an exciting energy in training, and the possibility of debuts for several of our up and coming talents is something everyone at the club can look forward to.
Football is nothing without its supporters, and on behalf of everyone involved with the Draconians, I want to extend a massive thank you to our loyal fans. Whether we’re playing here at home or on the road, your backing is what sets this club apart. The noise, the colour, and the warmth from the crowd give the players belief even in difficult moments and help to turn ordinary matches into special occasions. The atmosphere you provide makes every fixture feel meaningful and memorable, and there is no doubt you play a vital role in our recent run of results. So thank you, once again, for your continued commitment. I hope you enjoy today pride in being part of this club’s ongoing journey. Enjoy the match.
Baglan Dragons 0–0 Cardiff Draconians
Evan Bevans Field – 13th September 2025 – Attendance: 161 Match reports by Ben Hartrey.
A tight contest in South Wales saw Baglan Dragons and Cardiff Draconians play out a goalless draw, with both sides showing defensive strength in a game of few clear chances.
Dracs goalkeeper Harry Johnson was called into action early on, producing a sharp save to keep the hosts at bay. At the other end, Dan Bowen almost broke through just before the interval, only for a covering defender to recover well. Moments later, Harry Treharne latched onto a clever pass from Marinho Manga but could only drag his effort wide.
The second half followed a similar pattern, with Johnson commanding his area and dealing confidently with crosses and set pieces. Neither side could find the decisive breakthrough, and the points were shared at full time.
A solid result on the road for the Draconians, built on discipline and defensive resilience.

Afan Lido 1–3 Cardiff Draconians
Glenhafod Park Stadium – 16th September 2025 – Attendance: 151
Cardiff Draconians produced a commanding display to secure all three points, following up Saturday’s defensive resilience with an attacking performance full of energy and intent.
The Dracs were the better side from the outset, though Lido carried a threat on the break. The opener came when Luke Davies delivered a pinpoint cross and Sam Roberts rose highest to head home. Further chances followed, with Harry Treharne almost catching the keeper off his line and Sam Cawley causing problems for the defence.
Early in the second half the lead was doubled, Dan Bowen running clear to finish off a neat move by poking the ball beyond the onrushing goalkeeper. The result was all but sealed when Cawley got the goal his performance deserved, intercepting a loose pass and driving forward before his low strike deflected past the keeper.
Lido pulled one back late on from the penalty spot after Dafydd Ball was adjudged to have fouled his man, but the Dracs had long since taken control of the contest.
A strong all-round win, with the forwards taking centre stage after the back line’s masterclass last time out.
MOM: Sam Cawley
Harry Treharne says Cardiff Draconians will make sure they don get carried away by their good form as they return to action against Cwmbran Celtic this afternoon.
The Dracs have picked up three wins and a draw from their last four Cymru South games, including victories over Pontypridd United (2-1) and Aberystwyth Town (3-1), with both games seeing Treharne getting on the scoresheet.
Treharne, who arrived at the Dracs in the summer after spells with Cambrian United and Taffs Well, shares with Media Officer Joshua Thomas on his time with the Dracs so far, our recent run and today’s first round tie in the JD Welsh Cup with the Yellows.
JT: How have you found your time so far with the Dracs?
HT: I have really enjoyed my time at the Dracs so far. It’s a great group of boys and the changing room is brilliant which I think has played a key role in our run of form recently. I am so glad I signed for the Dracs as I haven’t enjoyed my football this much in ages and hope to carry on scoring and creating chances.
JT: What has been your highlight of your time with the Dracs?
HT: My personal highlight so far was scoring my first goal for the Dracs against Ponty. Despite being poor first half, coming back from 1-0 down to beat Ponty 2-1 away with nine men at the end showed a lot of character.
JT: We have taken 10 points from our last 12 on offer, how great is to be part of the club at the moment?
HT: I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at the Dracs and particularly enjoyed the last month. Picking up 10 points from our last 4 games, especially with the opponents we have faced, has been brilliant. We have proved that we are more than capable of beating anyone in this league and to be honest, I think we should have more points. We were unlucky not to pick up any points in the first three fixtures.
JT: What is the secret behind our good run of from?
HT: Momentum is massive, especially in this league. As soon as you hit a good run of form, it boosts everyone’s confidence and it has showed in our performances. We just need to make sure we don’t get complacent, carry on training hard and I have no doubt we can continue with this good run of form.
JT: We followed up Saturday’s impressive goalless draw with a fine win at Afan Lido on Tuesday night, just how great were those three points?
HT: Tuesday’s result against Afan Lido was massive, and I thought we were spot on all over the pitch from the whistle. We made an established Cymru South side look very poor and it could have been a lot more if we were more clinical. I should have definitely been on the scoresheet but it’s just important we keep going and keep on creating chances.

JT: We have had disappointments so far in Cup competitions, having been beaten in the Welsh Blood Service League Cup and Nathaniel MG Cup, what would it mean to go far in the Welsh Cup and how important is it to put those defeats behind you and focus on producing another solid display?
HT: The Welsh Cup is the best competition, and it would be really good to have a proper run in the cup this year. Hopefully, we can kick it off with a win against Cwmbran Celtic.

Best piece of advice you would give upcoming footballers: No matter what level of football you are playing, whether it’s grass roots or academy level, treat every game like it’s a trial because you never know who is watching. Make sure you’re always working hard on and off the pitch and ensure you give 100 percent every time.
