Unique Ashes 20c type! Not to be issued for circulation! One of very few Australian 20c commemoratives, and a unique Australian legal tender type that will not be issued into general circulation, this new 20c from the Royal Australian Mint forms an inspiring tribute to one of the world’s oldest, most celebrated sporting contests – The Ashes. The metaphorical prize for victory in England-Australia clashes, the Ashes was created when a mock obituary lamenting the death of English cricket was published after defeat to the colonials in 1882. The obituary stated that the body of English cricket will be cremated and ‘the ashes taken to Australia’. According to legend, the physical ‘Ashes’ were created when England’s captain, Ivo Bligh, was presented with an urn containing the remains of a burnt bail following England’s

victory in the 1882-83 series in Australia. This urn, permanently domiciled at Lords in England, is the eternal symbol of the great rivalry between the two nations. With England reclaiming the Ashes in 2009, and intense interest in the 2010-11 series, there is no doubt that the 2011 20c Ashes BU will be hotly pursued by cricket lovers across the globe – especially given the inspired cricket ball design! However, more than just an important commemorative

tribute to the Ashes, this new Australian legal tender type is crucial to serious decimal collectors. Not to be issued for circulation, and therefore never to be found in change, this affordable Royal Australian Mint release is simply a must-have for anyone keen on preserving a complete collection.

Australia’s first $1 coin… Seen as a more durable, more economically viable alternative to the $1 banknote, the first Australian aluminium-bronze $1 coin was introduced amid great publicity in May 1984. Continuing the Australian native wildlife theme underpinning the nation’s original circulating decimal coins, first seen in 1966, the first $1 carried the ‘Mob of Roos’ reverse design by master craftsman Stuart Devlin. A unique element of Australian numismatics, the 1984 Roos $1 is the only $1 coin distinguished by the original decimal Arnold Machin portrait of Queen Elizabeth II.

The commemorative tradition… Celebrating Australia’s past, present and future through the medium of coinage, the Royal Australian Mint began what would become a grand tradition of $1 commemorative coins within two years of the issue of Australia’s first $1 type. Beginning with the Year of Peace $1 in 1986, the Mint has issued sixteen different $1 commemorative coins for circulation – including highly sought after types such as the 1996 Parkes $1, 1997 Smithy $1 and 2005 Dancing Man $1. Every one of those sixteen coins, PLUS the first Mob of Roos date, is included in this comprehensive presentation.

One for the future…

Prestige & Potential…

Underestimated as a genuine numismatic collectable, the RAM’s Baby Mint Set Series represents great potential. Overstating the case? The figures tell otherwise.

Featuring six coins from 5c to $2, plus a 40mm full-colour medallion, the final Blinky Bill Baby Proof Set to be issued by the RAM forms a prestigious celebration of the arrival of a newborn – and a gift that will be treasured for generations to come.

If you know someone who is about to turn 18, and fancied securing them a memento of their birth year, the 1993 Baby Mint Set, issued at A$15, would cost you well over A$100 – if you could find one. The 1997 Baby Mint Set is similarly impossible to find, and has rocketed in value from A$24.50 to nearly A$400! The 1998, 2001 and 2005 sets are just as sought after – cataloguing at A$200, A$190 and A$120 respectively – with EVERY issue trading at well over Official Issue Price. Featuring a not-issued-forcirculation 2011-dated $1 amongst its six coins (5c-$2), plus a 27mm full-colour medallion, the 2011 Baby Mint Set will be just as hard to find as its predecessors. 2011 BABY MINT SET Official Issue Price

Moreover, a brief glance at the current market values of the series illustrates that every Baby Proof Set is a highly collectable, low-mintage release – packed with a great deal of future potential. EVERY Baby Proof Set trades at substantially over Official Issue Price, with the 1996 (now A$475), 1997 (A$995), 1999 (A$475) and 2001 (A$325) showing the potential of the series. With even a very recent issue such as the 2007 set roaring to a market value of A$275, the 2011 Baby Proof Set is clearly one to put away for the future. 2011 BABY PROOF SET Official Issue Price

The greatest legacy of King Henry VIII was his creation of the Royal Navy, and the pride of England’s seafaring defenders was the Mary Rose – launched in 1511. Limited to an edition of just 20,000 packs, this

superbly designed £2 type forms a striking tribute to the 500th anniversary of her maiden voyage. At the time of Henry’s accession, England was extremely vulnerable to attack from French ships. Determined to build a strong Tudor navy, Henry embarked

on an extensive naval construction program, and at the heart of that program was the Mary Rose – the first ship to carry cannons able to fire a broadside from watertight gun ports. A successful military career followed, and by the time she sank in 1545, the Mary Rose had played a key role in England’s defence.

Graced with an incredibly detailed design, this bimetal £2 features the Mary Rose in her prime, bedecked with the banners and streamers that made Tudor ships so beautiful and so recognisable. Beautifully presented, each coin is set in an official pack recounting the history of this legendary vessel.

AR783

The King James Bible in Bimetal! A fascinating work of numismatic art, commemorating one of the most important publications in history, this one-year-only £2 honours the 400th anniversary of the King James Bible – first published in 1611. Created during a time of great religious tension in England, the King James Bible was an attempt to replace existing, allegedly inaccurate English translations of the

Bible. Inspired by one of the most learned of all English monarchs, King James VI & I of Scotland of England, the new translation quickly became the standard text in English churches. Representing the very best of Elizabethan English, with its majestic style and poetic rhythms still acclaimed by modern scholars, the King James Bible can lay claim to being the most printed book ever.

Capturing the importance of the translation and the key role that printing played in its wide acceptance – with the aptly chosen quote from the Bible set in a representation of the printing process – each coin is housed in an informative pack. Just 20,000 packs issued worldwide!

Although achieving nationhood at Federation in 1901, Australia’s first currency was not issued until 1910, with the first copper coins struck in 1911. Small mintages were the rule for the first decade, and with lower denomination coins

experiencing higher circulation rates, a tiny percentage of early George V 1/2d and 1d coins have survived in collectable condition – making complete 1911-20 1/2d and 1d sets tough to assemble.

Representing a crucial slice of Australia’s early history as a nation, these sets are littered with important dates. The first 1/2d & 1d (1911), the low-mintage 1914 and 1914H 1/2d, the scarce 1915H 1/2d, the sought after 1918 1/2d, the low-mintage

1914 & 1915 1d, the Calcutta Mint 1/2d & 1d issues (1916-18), the first 1/2d & 1d struck in Australia (1919)…all crucial to serious predecimal collectors.Surprisingly affordable, we have just a few complete 1d and 1/2d sets in Buy both stock. collections and SAVE A$26!

With 46 years passing since the last was struck, it’s no surprise that Elizabeth II predecimal silver coins are difficult to locate in higher grade – especially shillings and florins. A great opportunity to secure an example of EVERY Elizabeth II shilling and florin, these

desirable collections are underpinned by both superior grade and excellent value. The scarcity of Elizabeth II silver coins is largely due to the fact that, apart from the 1966 Silver 50c, these were the last circulating coins struck from precious metal.

All silver coins have been targeted for the intrinsic value since decimalisation, with the two heaviest types – shilling and florin – naturally preferred by precious metal profiteers. The Australian Government also melted down silver coins in huge numbers, with the 1969-70 RAM report stating that, over a 3-year period, 2,090 tons of silver coins had been melted down, producing an extraordinary 34 million troy ounces of fine silver! As a result, later Australian predecimal silver coins are

much scarcer than the mintage figures would suggest – a fact borne out by the difficulty in securing Elizabeth II shillings and florins. With every date represented – including the especially scarce 1953-56 issues – we have complete 1953-63 shilling and florin sets available, with both in EF to Unc! Create a cracking copper collection! Issued from 1911 under King George V until the end of the predecimal era in 1964, and sentimental favourites as low denomination issues, the 1/2d and 1d are among Australia’s most popular collector coins. A key element of Australia’s first national currency system, the popularity of these coins is in large part due to the great affordability – as illustrated here.

A sensational way to begin a predecimal collection, and therefore perfect as a Christmas gift for a new collector, we have Australia’s famous halfpenny and penny available by the HALF KILO – at prices to please all pockets! From the late Victorian Age… In the decade before Federation in 1901, the coins with which Australians were most familiar carried the distinguished Veiled Head portrait of QueenVictoria. The final portrait found on the circulating coinage of Britain’s longest reigning monarch, theVeiled Head type was introduced in 1893 following the Jubilee series, and employed untilVictoria’s death in 1901.

A chance to travel back in time to turn-of-the-century Australia, this complete Queen Victoria Veiled Head collection represents a fantastic opportunity. An important element of Australian currency,

this comprehensive selection comprises nine Veiled Head type coins – the Farthing, Halfpenny, Penny, Threepence, Sixpence, Shilling, Florin, Half Crown & Crown – in Very Good to Fine quality.
