Narooma is one of the most scenic towns on the Far South Coast, nestled between the ocean and the startling blue-green waters of Wagonga Inlet, with Gulaga Mountain (Mt. Dromedary) watching over the township. The spectacular scenery makes it the perfect place for a relaxed coastal holiday. The town retains a '1950s fishing village' vibe but modernised, with great shops, cafés and restaurants. It's a fantastic place for families, with a beach that's patrolled in summer, bike tracks and waterways to explore or fish in. With a choice of flat stretches or hills, there are numerous places to walk around town and take in the spectacular views over the Inlet, the mountains and the ocean. Montague Island is located just offshore from Narooma and is a truly unique spot to visit, Twice voted as Tourism Australia’s top ecotourism destination. You can take a tour of the island and learn about its heritage-listed buildings, wildlife and history, or stay for a few nights in one of the Lighthouse Keeper's cottages. The island is home to the largest fur seal colony on the NSW coast, as well as being a breeding ground for more than 8,000 little penguins who come ashore at dusk after feeding at sea. Narooma is also renowned for its spectacular public golf course, ranked as one of the best in Australia. It's also a great place to go bike riding, with tracks around town that are perfect for kids to practice their riding skills on. If you're a hard-core mountain bike enthusiast, there are mountain bike tracks and sealed roads aplenty to check out, including some great tracks through local state forests and national parks. If you're looking for more leisurely pursuits, there are plenty of great cafés, restaurants and shops to experience.

Support the locals at the Narooma Oyster Festival Narooma Oyster Festival is happening again from 1st - 2nd May and if there has ever been a year to support this event, 2020 is it. After a devastating summer that will long haunt communities along the NSW South Coast, Festival organisers are determined to deliver the most delicious weekend yet. Cheered on by their entire community, it seems everyone wants in. Festival Chair Cath Peachey said there is an incredible amount of collaboration with local oyster farmers, producers, chefs and festival partners this year. ‘We are all focused on what this festival celebrates – our pristine waters, our exceptional produce and most importantly, our famous oysters’. South Coast icon and celebrity chef, Paul West, joins the team infusing his ‘A River Cottage’ charm into the 2020 Cooking Program. As poster boy for organic food, sustainable farming and regional living, Paul is the perfect face for a festival that sees top chefs, local producers and oyster farmers all converge in the seaside town of Narooma for a mouth-watering celebration of South Coast flavours. Whether you are looking for great food, oyster masterclasses, cooking demonstrations, entertainment or cultural experiences, the 2020 program has it all. If you simply want to eat as many oysters as you can, this is the event for you – over 45,000 oysters were consumed at the 2019 event! Tickets are on sale now – we recommend also booking for the Long Table Dinner for foodies or the Ultimate Oyster Experience for those who just can’t get enough oysters down their hatch!
