26 Bermagui offers visitors a myriad of things to do and places to go. Pristine beaches and lakes provide water activities from surfing to swimming, snorkeling, boating and kayaking. The Continental Shelf is just 20km offshore, making Bermagui the closest point to the Shelf on the Australian east coast, and an ideal place to book a fishing charter on one of the many local boats. If you'd prefer to stick to the shore, you can throw in a line from the beach, rocks or along the Bermagui River. Don't miss a swim in the beautiful Blue Pool, set on the edge of the ocean at the base of the cliffs off Pacific Drive. Try out the 18 hole golf course, hit a ball around the tennis courts or play bowls at the Bermagui Country Club. Bermagui has it's very own Art Trail, with galleries like Narek, Grimm-Hewitt Studio/ Gallery, Bermagui Mudworks to the south and Ivy Hill at Wapengo - spend a day delving into their collections. Go bush walking or bird watch in the surrounding National Parks and State Forests. Take a stroll through the Fishermens Wharf complex, with its retail outlets, galleries, restaurants and cafés. Close to Bermagui, Wallaga Lake is one of the largest coastal lakes in NSW, an area of outstanding natural beauty with special significance for local Aboriginal people. Montreal Goldfield at Wallaga Lake is Australia's only Goldfield that goes to the sea, and has guided tours daily. Learn about the discovery of gold in the 1880s and its impact on Bermagui and its surrounds. The Camel Rock Brewery and Cafe, located in the Wallaga Lake Big 4 Holiday Park has craft beers on tap and American-influenced food.

SCULPTURE Bermagui celebrates the power of art SCULPTURE Bermagui has been running for a few years now, with the 2019 event a particularly successful one. This year, despite a record number of expressions of interest, mother nature stepped in to make things very uncertain for quite a while. Happily, Bermagui weathered the storm, and the exhibition is going ahead. From 6th - 15th March, our Indoor and Outdoor exhibitions will be on display in their beautiful settings. Our wonderful team of volunteers seem even more motivated to ensure that this is one of the brightest and best exhibitions to date. The community needs an event to remind us how amazing our south coast location is. The Business community especially needs some help from visitors to the region. Hopefully locals and those from further afield will make an even bigger effort to be here in 2020 to enjoy what may prove to be the best event yet. Many of our exhibitors have been affected by bushfires. Some, like Jen Mallinson, with works “Rejuvenation” and “Renewal’ and Ron Threlfall, with “Weeping Woman” and “Aftermath” have been inspired to create sculptures to convey their own experience with the inferno that swept through our beautiful country only a few short weeks ago. David Doyle has chosen to inspire us to look forward to the future with his “Field of Happy Flowers”. Sales of David’s flowers will go to a Sculptor who has been impacted by the fires. In 2020 we have our own mascot: Bermagui Spirit (see below right). This little soul will play an integral part during our SCULPTURE Bermagui event, encapsulating the energy, potential and beauty of the region. A series of ‘Spirits’, crafted by our own Pauline Balos, will be dotted around the exhibition trail for people to find, hopefully taking ‘Selfies’ and posting to Instagram (#bermispirit). A silent auction will be held where visitors can bid for the ‘Spirit’ of their choice. The lucky winners will be announced at the closing ceremony. A highlight of this year’s exhibition will be the Artists’ Talks held on Saturday 14th from 11am - approx. 2pm. Three exhibiting artists, Anneke Paijmans, Hugh Burrell and Michael Purdy will speak about their work, inspiration and process. This event will be held at a beautiful Mystery Bay location, with morning tea, a light lunch and beverage included. Tickets ($40) available from the SCULPTURE Bermagui website. Another innovative activity is “Poetry meets Sculpture”. This will be coordinated by Kai Jensen, a passionate local poetry enthusiast. Located at Dickinson Point from 11am - 2pm on Saturday 7th, Kai will collect lines of inspiration from the public who view the exhibition. The local poetry groups will then create an inspirational and truly unique piece of verse to be performed and displayed at the closing ceremony on Sunday 15th starting at 4.30pm. Fun for all ages is to be had at the ‘Tin Foil Workshop’. Inspired by the works of Japanese artist Toshihiko Mitsuya, it is hoped that visitors will be motivated to create their own small sculptural works of art. This April 12th and 13th, Montreal Goldfield’s Children's Days are offering something to stir the imagination of children living on, or visiting, the Far South Coast. From 10am to 12 noon, children can take a walk back in time with activities of the 1880s. Write out your Miner’s License with pen and ink; dress up in costumes of the 1880s; play some great games of days gone by. Take a mini tour of the Goldfield and learn how

to pan for gold! There are lots of new activities to enjoy this year for children that have previously been to a Children's Day. A fun day for all, young and old. $5 per person (children must be accompanied by an adult).
