Loving our Little “Paradise” Our Town enjoys a unique location nestled between the Potomac River on the east and the waters of Monroe Bay on the west. We are one of the few remaining small seaport towns on the Potomac River, located within a 2 hour commute for millions of people from Richmond to the south stretching north to the Washington/Baltimore metropolitan area. However, whether you come to visit or live here full time or just enjoy the town as a weekend retreat, you feel that you are thousands of miles from the hustle and bustle of the big city life. We really love our little “Paradise” here. We have the second longest sandy public beach in Virginia on the Potomac side and marinas on the Monroe Bay side. Visitors and residents can enjoy fishing, sailing, boating, swimming and crabbing. Colonial Beach is also a very historical area, with George Washington and James Monroe’s Birthplaces nearby and Stratford Hall, the boyhood home of Robert E. Lee just a few minutes down the Potomac. Our small river town was in it’s heyday during the 40’s & 50’s and there’s a renaissance happening. If you haven’t been here lately, you owe it to yourself to visit. We are a Golf Cart Community. You will see them everywhere and they range from standard carts to fully loaded and “dressed up” eye catching machines. The influence of the local artist community is evident throughout the town. The art galleries and local businesses in conjunction with the Colonial Beach Artists Guild participate in a 2nd Friday Art Walk year round. This draws locals and tourists from surrounding areas and the town is becoming known as an art mecca. Jet Ski Races July 18th, 19th and 20th
The Upstate Watercraft Promotions and the International Jet Ski Boating Association return to Colonial Beach for their annual tour. The COLONIAL BEACH CHAMBER OF COMMERCE AND DOCKSIDE RESTAURANT & BLUE HERON PUB are proud to be the main sponsors of this event. On Friday, July 18th, “The NSWC FEDERAL CREDIT UNION Corporate Challenge” will begin. This race will consist of representatives from sponsors competing in a four (4) person relay timed event. Post competition will include awards and a beach party. Saturday night, DOCKSIDE RESTAURANT & BLUE HERON PUB will host “The Racers Party” at 7:00p.m. Racers will be in attendance for you to meet and to sign autographs. On display will be a selection of high performance jet skis. The band KLEPTO RADIO will provide live music starting at 9:00p.m. Sunday, after the final races, it’s back to DOCKSIDE for the Awards Ceremony with music provided by JERRY WIMMER & YOUR BEST SHOT.
