The full-storage capacity of Northern Cape dams exceeded NORTHERN CAPE: Water storage in the Northern Cape has been affected due to the rise of high-water levels as a result of heavy rain. In a statement, the Department of Water and Sanitation says water storage in the province is currently at 106.2% - or 155.4million cubic meters. The full water storage capacity of the province is 147.3 million cubic meters. The Douglas Storage Weir in the Vaal River is overflowing at 130.8% and spilling at 530 m3/s. All water users including irrigation and livestock farmers, fishing, mining, and recreation

activities along rivers and dams are advised to stay clear of the possible flooding rivers. All are urged to remove livestock, water pipes, and other working equipment out of the water to avoid damage to property. Communities have also been warned to be on high alert as roads, bridges, dams, and water canals in some parts of the province and country are flooded and should be avoided. Swimming, crossing flooded roads on foot, or motor vehicles is strongly not advisable to avoid loss of human life and property.

Rift Valley Fever under cattle increasing in the Northern Cape NORTHERN CAPE: A Northern Cape farmer's organization ‘SaamtrekSaamwerk’ says it is already putting contingency plans in place after the Department of Agriculture, Land Reform, and Rural Development has warned farmers about the outbreak of Rift Valley Fever. The fever is expected after recent rainfall in the province, with more rain predicted. The rainfall increases the number of mosquitos that can easily spread the fever amongst livestock. Rift Valley fever is a viral disease that is spread by mosquitos that can be devastating to livestock farmers. Meanwhile, the MEC for the Department of Agriculture, Land Reform, and Rural Development Mase Manopule says the province is approaching the peak season.

11 000 pupils in province waiting for placement in schools NORTHERN CAPE: Parents in the province, whose children are still waiting for confirmation of placement this school year, are still waiting for answers from the Northern Cape Department of Education. The frustrated parents have been venting their frustrations on social media platforms. These are parents who have registered on time last year, using the new online registration system implemented by the department. A few weeks ago, over 11-thousand pupils were still waiting for placement.

Rest in peace ORANIA: The search for a 19-year-old student, who went missing in the Orange River last week, has come to an end and her body has been laid to rest. Last week, rescue teams found Klarissa Joubert's body, close to the point where she is believed to have gone missing. Orania Movement chief executive Joost Strydom said Orania Security Services, SAPS and official town representatives searched for the teen. He said the cooperation of the Orania community, the surrounding farmers and official structures was a clear

proof of the ability that can be unlocked if a community works together towards a common goal, even in a very traumatic time. "During the search, a wide network of supporters was formed, which included everything from food and fuel, to prayers and support. “The family expressed sincere thanks to the community of Orania, the volunteers, their friends from Ermelo, the SAPS and every helper. The family has made a serious appeal to the media and other persons to respect their privacy. “In this difficult time, we find

strength in our community and in our Heavenly Father through Jesus Christ," Strydom said. Joubert was a psychology student at the Potchefstroom University. She went swimming in the Orange River with friends on the day that she went missing. The virtual-memorial service of Klarissa took place at the ‘AP Kerk Orania’ on Saturday 30 January 2021. Her parents and close-family attended the funeral in person. It can still be viewed on Facebook.

(Facebook)

Cul de sac… Doodloopstraat. As jy by so 'n padteken kom weet jy daar is nêrens heen om te gaan nie, dis net omdraai of niks. ~ Willem Botha

Focus on Rooibos

Ditch detoxes and rejuvenate your body with Rooibos in 2021 Many claim that tea can help flush out toxins, enhance the immune function and boost energy levels, but how effective is it really? Adele du Toit, spokesperson for the SA Rooibos Council (SARC) explains that when we eat healthily our bodies can detoxify efficiently, but when we consume food with additives, preservatives, artificial flavours and colourants, and drink too much alcohol, this function is hampered. “Tea-drinking may aid in the detox process by encouraging adequate fluid intake, provided that it’s complemented by a healthy diet and cutting out other harmful practices, such as smoking and excessive drinking. Our bodies naturally detoxify via the kidneys, liver, skin and gastrointestinal tract – in which the water component of tea plays a major role. “For generations, our indigenous Rooibos tea has been used to treat a variety of ailments ranging from colic to allergies, but it’s also a great way to rejuvenate your body.” Here’s why: Low in calories Rooibos is low in calories and is naturally sweet, so you don’t need to add any sugar to it. May curb your appetite The tea has been proven to decrease the body’s production of cortisol. These stress hormones can increase one’s appetite for comfort food – ultimately leading to weight-gain.

Regulates blood sugar Aspalathin – a polyphenol unique to Rooibos may help to keep blood sugar levels stable. Green Rooibos is especially effective at doing so. Up to six cups of Rooibos tea is recommended for optimal benefits. Removes free radicals It is packed with antioxidants which help to rid the body of free radicals caused by unhealthy lifestyle habits. Caffeine-free It is 100% caffeine-free and has a soothing effect, which can aid in a good night’s rest. Supports vital functions Rooibos aids in digestion and supports bladder, liver and kidney function. Protects your heart Rooibos may help to protect the heart by improving blood circulation, blood pressure and cholesterol. Soothing effect The tea also has a calming effect, relaxing tense and aching muscles. Keeps you hydrated Every cell in your body needs water to function optimally. Drinking Rooibos is a healthy way to stay hydrated with the added benefit of consuming antioxidants without compromising with sugary drinks. “Many typically turn to drastic diets or major detoxes to get their bodies back on track, without success. Fasting, skipping

meals and living off juices for a week are not the answer and will only leave you hungry and irritable. “If you really want a long-term solution, you are far better off making a series of small, sensible and sustainable changes such as: · Eating plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables · Cutting back on saturated fat, sugar and salt · Limiting your alcohol intake · Giving up smoking · Exercising daily · Getting enough sleep · Switching coffee, soft drinks or fruit juice for water or healthy herbal teas, such as Rooibos. “This way you are much more likely to stick to your new health regime, while reaping the rewards,”

Toyota Gazoo Racing Introduces Gr010 Hybrid Hypercar TOYOTA GAZOO Racing begins a new era of endurance racing with the launch of its all-new GR010 HYBRID Le Mans Hypercar, which will compete in the 2021 FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC). The reigning world champions and three-time Le Mans winners will defend their titles against new manufacturer competitors using the racing version of Toyota's upcoming hypercar road car. Team President Hisatake Murata said WEC participation under the new Racing Hybrid branding would enhance Toyota's understanding of hypercar technology and help deliver more exciting sportscars to customers. "The GR010 HYBRID is a preview of our road-going cars," he said. "What we learn on the WEC racetracks will directly benefit our customers.“ Team driver Brendon Hartley from New Zealand said the GR010 HYBRID previews a car that customers will soon experience on the road. "Endurance racing has always been a proving ground for new technology and now it is even more roadcar relevant," he said. The GR010 HYBRID prototype racer was developed over the past 18 months by engineers at the team's headquarters in Cologne, Germany, and the electric hybrid powertrain experts at Toyota's HigashiFuji technical centre in Japan. It incorporates a powerful four-wheel-drive racing hybrid powertrain, with a 3.5-litre V6 twin turbo engine, providing 500kW to the rear wheels and combining with a 200kW motor generator unit, developed by AISIN AW and DENSO, on the front axle. Total output is capped at 500kW, meaning the GR010 HYBRID's sophisticated electronics reduce engine

power according to the amount of hybrid boost deployed. The striking new look of the racing prototype reflects the appearance of its inspiration, the GR Super Sport hypercar, which made its public debut with a demonstration run at the 2020 Le Mans 24 Hours and is currently in development. To mark this new era for TOYOTA GAZOO Racing, a fresh livery includes the iconic GR lettering to indicate the strong link between race and road cars. TOYOTA GAZOO Racing enters its ninth season in WEC with the same driver line-up which brought Le Mans and World Championship glory to the team in the 2019-2020 campaign.Newly crowned world champions Mike Conway, Kamui Kobayashi and José María López will drive the #7 GR010 HYBRID while Sébastien Buemi, Kazuki Nakajima and Brendon Hartley will race with the #8 car. Nyck de Vries continues in his role as test and reserve driver. They have already started an intense program of developing the GR010 HYBRID, with three three-day tests already completed as the team adapts to new regulations which are a significant shift in terms of performance and philosophy. As part of cost-cutting initiatives incorporated in WEC regulations, the new GR010 HYBRID is 162kg heavier and has 32% less power than its TS050 HYBRID predecessor, with Le Mans lap times expected to be around 10 seconds slower. It also has larger dimensions: 250mm longer, 100mm wider and 100mm higher. For the first time since the beginning of its WEC project in 2012, TOYOTA GAZOO Racing will participate without a rear motor generator

unit (MGU), with the single permitted MGU located on the front axle. This means a starter motor and fully hydraulic rear brakes must be fitted to the GR010 HYBRID. The new racer features state-of-the-art aerodynamics, optimised for efficiency, and developed using powerful Computational Fluid Dynamics software and wind-tunnel testing. The new technical regulations permit only a single homologated bodywork package, with only one adjustable aerodynamic device. The GR010 HYBRID will therefore compete in the same specification at both low and high downforce circuits, with an adjustable rear wing modifying the aerodynamic characteristics. For the first time, the top class of WEC and Le Mans will feature a balance of performance, allowing organisers to modify the performance of each car in a bid to ensure identical performance potential from each Le Mans Hypercar. That should ensure close racing between TOYOTA GAZOO Racing and its hypercar competitors. Those battles will be fought over six races on three continents, beginning with the 1000 Miles of Sebring on 19 March prior to the 6 Hours of Spa-Francor champs on 1 May and the season highlight, the 24 Hours of Le Mans on 12-13 June. The first world championship endurance race in Monza since 1992 takes place on 18 July before trips to Fuji Speedway on 26 September and Bahrain on 20 November, all of which are six-hour contests.
