New ECD programme improves learning environment for children

Taking action to address challenges faced by early childhood development (ECD) centreswithincommunitiesin the Siyancuma Local Municipality and to improve the standard of services for the benefit of children, Boikanyo Solar launched an ECD infrastructure project in April of this year The project isset to benefit fourlocal ECD centres and close to 200 children with the provision of educational resources, infrastructural support, as

well as practitioner training, for a course of 12 months.

“ECD centres in the area have been identified as lacking learning resources for indoor and outdoor activities In order to meet this need, learning and play equipment among other educational resources will be provided. This project will have a positive impact on the community ECD education level and the development of the little ones,” explained Pamela Matyeka, Community

Liaison Officer for Boikanyo Solar. This support includes the provision of educational and learning materials; outdoor play equipment; tables and chairs; gas stoves and bottle gas for assistance during load shedding; infrastructure development; and soft skills capacity building for ECD practitioners andmanagementboard These resourceswillhelpcatertothe developmental phases of the children, ensuring that a conducive teaching and

Northern Cape This investment will contribute significantly towards the upgrade of infrastructure facilities at the following schools: E. P. Lekhela High School, Tetlanyo High School, Thabane High School, Emmanuel Secondary High School,Roodepan High School, Kim Golo Primary School, Pampierstad High School (Phokoane), and Boresetse HighSchool(Dikgatlong).Each school received a donation of R320 000, which will be used to create a conducive environment for learning and

Loaded Boerewors Rolls

with Chakalaka

Ingredients

30 ml (2 Tbsp) sunflower oil

1 onion, peeled and finely chopped

1 green pepper, finely chopped 3 carrots, peeled and grated

30 ml (2 Tbsp) Robertsons

Braai & Grill Spicy BBQ

45 ml (3 Tbsp) Knorr Chakalaka Soup

125 ml (½ cup) water

700 g Boerewors6 bread rollsbutter (optional)

100 g feta cheese, crumbled

Preparation method

Heattheoilinasaucepanandfrytheonionsandgreen peppersuntilsoftAddthegratedcarrotsandsautéfora further 10 minutes, or until softened Add the Robertsons Braai & Grill Spicy BBQ and stir for 1 minute.In a small bowl, make a smooth mixture of the Knorr Chakalaka Soup and water, and add this to the saucepan. Stir well and simmer over a medium low heat for 15 20 minutes, or until the chakalaka reaches the desired consistencyBraai the boerewors over low to medium coals until cooked through, taking care not toburnitontheoutside Removefromthegridandcut into portionsSlice the rolls lengthways, and butter them (optional). Place a boerewors piece in each roll and top with the chakalaka and crumbled feta.Serve hot.
