AGW athletes take gold and silver at track and field interprovincials

Douglas needs toilets, not toilet paper

On November 19, 2022, five AGW athletes represented the federation at the Track and Field Interprovincials hosted bytheACNWinPotchefstroom attheNWUMcArtherStadium

The provinces that participated were: Athletics Griqualand West (AGW), Athletics Central North West (ACNW), Athletics North West North (ANWN), Athletics Free State (AFS), and Athletics Vaal

Triangle (AVT) Douglas High School athletes performed exceptionally well. Below are the results: Zane Lefuthane, B/9, 60 m of gold, and 80 m Silver Franco Van den Berg B/9, 60 m silver, and 80 m goldHancoKlopperB/13Long Jump, Silver "Congratulations to our athletes on their stellar performances." "We are extremelyproudofthem."

The Department of Water and Sanitation's "celebrations" of World Toilet Day in the Northern Cape are a slap in the face of Douglas residents Instead of focusing on the eradication of bucket toilets, the department has been handing out toilet rolls and toilet brushes to residents who don't have toilets. The Department’s programme scheduled for Breipaal and Bongani earlier this week shows this intention Some residents reported receiving hand sanitizer and soap bars too. The DA believes that the money spent on handouts shouldhavebeenspentonthe eradication of bucket toilets The DWS’s spokesperson, Sputnik Ratau, indicated

earlier this year that there are still between 12 000 and 14 000 bucket toilets in total in the Free State and the Northern Cape Yet this department sees fit to hand out toilet brush sets to people without toilets. This is the samedepartmentthatfailedto spend an allocated amount of R243 million in the previous financial year to eradicate buckettoiletsintheFreeState and Northern Cape The DA will ask our public representative in parliament to request a breakdown of the funding for the Toilet Day campaign and to follow up on the eradication of bucket toilets in Douglas and the rest oftheprovince
