KIMBERLEY: What was described as a heart-touching and heart-warming experience played itself off at the Royal Hospital (Lenmed) in Kimberley when the day finally arrived for the 7 months old Baby Langeveldt. The day was celebrated with gifts and balloons, yet it was very sad for the staff of the hospital that described him as a ‘miracle baby'. They wrote: “Baby Langeveldt epitomizes hope and resilience for all our healthcare workers in what has been the most challenging year in our personal and professional lives. A happy ending as precious Baby Langeveldt goes home with mom, after 7 months in hospital. Baby Langeveldt was born preterm at 26 weeks, on 17 August
2020, weighing only 760g! We thank Royal Hospital and Heart Centre and our frontline workers who have been exceptional in looking after this Miracle Baby. Thank you, Dr. Dawie Peens and our nursing staff, for your dedication to taking care of both baby and mom and being their second family throughout this time. Baby Langeveldt’s family stays in Douglas, Northern Cape. Douglas is 104 km away from Kimberley, which made it very difficult for them to be at the hospital every day. We celebrate the good news that Baby Langeveldt was discharged from the hospital recently, and we wish him and his family much happiness!”

NORTHERN CAPE: Health Minister Zweli Mkhize on Tuesday (27 April 2021) said there were several COVID-19 cluster outbreaks in mines, schools, and townships in three provinces, which health experts were monitoring closely. The Northern Cape, the Free State, and the North West have recorded a significant spike in daily new coronavirus infection rates over the last few weeks. Mkhize said it could be

attributed to the Easter holiday break where the virus spread faster. “These increases show that we’re still at risk and, therefore, we must keep using masks, social distancing more now than ever. "The sense of complacency of people feeling that we’re fine and were without problems… we must remove that thinking because it is going to cause us an earlier surge, which we could’ve actually delayed.”
