JULIO C. ACOSTA

Julio was born in a town named Ranchuelo in the Villa Clara Province of Cuba and grew up in Varadero near the coast of Cuba. He loves his family, which includes his mom, Ixdalet, dad, Rolando, sister, Yanela, and nephews, Alis Lauren and Alan. His favorite color is red, and he loves playing Dota 2 on a personal computer. He grew up with his best friend playing video games. They were known to carry computers from neighborhood to neighborhood for tournaments. Scripture says, "Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love," Ephesians 4:2. It doesn’t matter what you believe in—a few things are for certain, it’s hard to argue that humility, gentleness, patience, andlovewillleadtoconflictandchaos.

Julio Cesar Acosta is the epitome of humility and all the aforementioned. As a young man of 24-years-old, he has surpassed many obstacles—often obstacles that we as Americans take for granted. He came to the United States from Cuba almost a year ago and has worked tirelessly since his third day of arrival into the country—jobs that entailed long hours as a delivery driver, carrying heavy commercial containers on his back, and carrying frozen food items from one freezer to another in an 8-hour-plus workday—withhisearsborderlineclosetofrostbite.

Julio is no stranger to hard work. Growing up in Cuba, his career options were limited as he studied bartending and disc jockeying. He would work odd jobs in construction until he made a living as a DJ and eventually as a selftaught sound technician. He is what many would consider a survivor. Those with weak stamina would not be able to keep up—especially when it comes to his love for cars.His interestinthembeganatamereyoungageof6-years-old, where often he would play with toy cars and accompany his father, sit on his lap, and practice driving a tractor. Later in his teenage years, he would assist his cousin’s boyfriend by helping him drive trucks up and down mountains – a similar foreshadowing of his future life as a porter with Doral Automotive Group. As he got older, his love for cars evolved as he repaired motors and fixed the body of vehicles with a friend—a frequent and plentiful task as Cuba’s cars break down daily because they all date backtothe1950’sbeforetheCastroregime.

His first love, you may be wondering, is his girlfriend, Eliany, and their story is one for the books—a Romeo and Juliet tale that unraveled as they saw each other in secret, sometimes for 2 hours at a time, until he was finally acceptedbyher family.

Julio lives by his words and never gave up on his American dream even though he struggled. He persevered, landed his position with Lincoln of Cutler Bay, and has made the mostofeveryday.

DAG's Annual Toy Drive with Amigos for Kids Accepting Donations Until December 9th For 30 years Amigos for Kids has been working with families in under-resourced communities to prevent childmaltreatment.

More recently, there are even more devastating effects due the pandemic and inflation. There are families in the program who were already struggling to make ends meet and now face even more hardship. Amigos for Kids remains committed in providingemergencyreliefandsupporttofamiliesin need.
