LAMPHEL ANNUAL EASTER SPORTS MEET The Catholic Youth Fellowship (CYF) of Lamphel Parish in Imphal hosted its 5th Annual Easter Sports Meet in the Parish campus from 08 to 10 April, 2016. The events were: five Soccer teams for Men, Women’s Volleyball team as well as Tug-of-War for both men and women. ALPHA Group for women’s volleyball had the following teams: Mary Immaculate Catholic Church-NGV; St. Peter Catholic Church Dimdaijang; St. Paul Catholic Church-Tarung/ Neikanlong and Emmanuel Catholic Church, Ramgailong-C. OMEGA Group for women’s volleyball had these teams: Langjing; Emmanuel Church, Ramgailong-B; Christ the King, Langol and Emmanuel Catholic Church, Ramgailong-A. ALPHA group for 5 Men Soccer, included these teams: Mary Immaculate Catholic Church, NGV; Emmanuel Catholic Church Ramgailong-A; St. Peter Catholic Church, Dimdaijang - A; Christ the King-Langol and St. Paul Catholic Church Tarung/Neikanlong. OMEGA Group for 5 Men Soccer, had these teams: St. Peter Catholic Church, Dimdaijang-B; Lamphel C. P Quarter; Emmanuel Catholic Church, Ramgailong – B; Parish area, Guigailong and Sunday School. On the inauguration day, the oath-taking ceremony was conducted by Mr. Isaac Hungyo. In his inaugural address, the chief Guest, Mr. James Avishing Lamkang Subedar, 2nd Manipur Rifles, highlighted the importance of Lent and Easter. He appreciated Fr. Tony Pellissery, Parish Priest and the CYF of the Parish for organizing the sports event. He told the youth that physical and spiritual growth is closely interwoven. From the ALPHA & OMEGA group for 5 Men Soccer, Dimdaijang-B came out victorious defeating Christ the King, Langol. They won the trophy and a cash prize of Rs. 4,000. From the ALPHA & OMEGA group for

Women’s Volleyball Dimdaijang was victorious by defeating Don Bosco Lanjing. They wrested the trophy and a cash prize of Rs. 4, 000. In Tug-of-War for men Dimdaijang won and for women Don Bosco Langjing came out victorious. Both the men’s group and the women’s team were awarded Rs. 500 each. On the final day, the faithful had Holy Eucharist celebrated by Fr. Blasius Tete for the faithful of Lamphel Parish who supported him during his last years of priestly formation. Fr. Nebu, Ecomomer of Dimapur Province and Fr. Tony concelebrated. After the Mass there was a short felicitation programme in which the people gifted Fr. Blasius a beautiful Mass Kit brought from Italy. Mr. Dominic M. Haokip, Subsidiary Intelligence Bureau of Manipur was the chief guest on the final day. Citing the example of a cocoon that struggles to become a beautiful butterfly, he exhorted the audience to try for a dignified and upright life in the society. He regretted that many people put their parents in Old Age Homes. He asked the audience to appreciate the sacrifices made by their parents and to love them unconditionally specially in their old age. The Sports Meet was a beautiful opportunity for the parishioners to spend some time together in a creative manner with balls, nets, and ropes to build and strengthen their fellowship. -Fr.
