CATECHISTS’ PROGRAMME AT DBC ITANAGAR Don Bosco College, Itanagar organized a residential animation programme for the catechists from 20 to 23 July 2016. There were 60 Participants from different parishes, centers and mission stations of Arunachal Pradesh (Palin, Gohpur, Itanagar, Soglo Putung, Naharlagun, and Jollang), Palin having the highest number of participants with 33 catechists. They were animated by different resource persons on various topics. The sessions began at 6:30 am and ended at 8:00 pm. The training began with inaugural cum prayer service conducted by Fr. Stanis Xess sdb. In the inaugural ceremony scripture passage was taken from 1 Timothy 3:1-14 on the characteristics of a leader. Fr. C.D. Mathai sdb dwelt beautifully on the theme giving much enlightenment to the catechists. Following day’s animation began with the Holy Eucharist at 7:00 am presided over by Fr. C.C. Jose sdb who also addressed the catechists after Holy Mass. In the First Session Fr. Mathai sdb spoke about the Holy Bible. Fr. Jewan, a Dominican from St. Patric Seminary at Naharlagun animated the catechists on the Sacraments. After lunch there was clarification of doubts. In the afternoon Fr. Stanis sdb enlightened the catechists about their role in
the church and their duties and responsibilities. He also explained the signs and symbols used in the church and liturgy. In the evening they had animated film in Hindi on Abraham the Father of our Faith. On the second day Fr. Bosco Kujur of Itanagar diocese spoke about Small Christian Community (SCC : Anyo Christan Dokum Dopa) and demonstrated how it is to be done. Every one participated very devoutly and actively. After lunch there was again clarification session when the catechists had many of their doubts cleared. In the afternoon Fr. Stanis gave instruction on Liturgical Calendar and its importance as well as the 10 Commandments of God and 6 Commandments of the Church. After this they had animated Bible film on David. In the evening they had recollection, confessions and adoration. The catechists appreciated the programmes which they had not attended earlier. They are so eager to have it regularly conducted so that they can get better knowledge. We thank the Don Bosco College community and Jollang Church for providing such opportunity. - Fr.
