Mall City (City Mall) Re-instituting: Parasite infrastructure as the urban incubator
Hong Kong, renowned as the ‘’ mall city ‘’, has one mall in every sq mile. They infiltrate day-to-day lives of Hong Kong residents by virtue of its ubiquitous presence. As a result of ungoverned private residential development, podium-tower slots are eroding against urban fabric in old towns. However, can mall be more than just a merchandising machine? Therefore, my thesis aims to explore the possibility of re-forming the mechanism of shopping mall and re-interpreting it into an urban scale by placing three scales of plugin. They, by attaching with shopping malls, aim to utilise and resilie economic resources in the city for poor empowerment.
