As we approach the end of the first school term, I would like to take a moment to reflect on the breadth of sporting success across our school community.
In this edition of the Dollar Sport Newsletter, you will meet our new Strength and Conditioning Coach, Maria Omma, and find out more about the achievements of our teams, Former Pupils, and individual pupils across a range of sports.
It is wonderful to see how sport continues to thrive at Dollar, and I look forward to sharing how we will continue to develop in the new year, with fresh opportunities for every pupil to get involved in sport at Dollar.

Hi, Iʼm Maria, Strength and Conditioning Coach at Dollar Academy and founder of Arctic Therapy Health & Fitness. I left Norway when I was 18 years old, and through my time in Scotland, I have gathered almost two decades of experience in the health and fitness industryboth as an athlete and coach, with a background in handball, rugby, and Olympic weightlifting.
My journey has taken me from grassroots and youth development to working alongside high-performance and Olympic-level athletes. Yet, no matter the level, my philosophy has always remained the same: to see the whole person behind the performance.
As a mum of three boys, Iʼm constantly reminded of the importance of creating spaces where young people feel seen, safe, and supportednot just as athletes, but as individuals navigating academic demands, friendships, and the pressures of growing up.
At Dollar Academy, my wish and vision is to support and complement the Schoolʼs commitment to fostering an inspiring and inclusive environment - one where every pupil has the opportunity to fulfil their potential by developing not only athletic ability but also the confidence, values, and character that last a lifetime. My goal is to ensure that every pupil - whether striving for high-performance sport or simply exploring movement - finds joy, belonging, and belief in what their body can do.

Well done to Riley Thomson, who was recently selected to the 2025 U21 Hockey Junior World Cup women's squad! You can watch her take on New Zealand on 17-20 December on watch.hockey!
Congratulations to our 1st XV rugby squad, who made it all the way to the Scottish Shield final! They will face off against Robert Gordon's College - we hope you'll join us in cheering them on!

Well done to the U16 rugby team who won their last three games in the conference to finish in 4th place. They have consistently improved as the season has progressed.

Well done to the pupils who recently competed in the Scottish Junior Indoor Rowing Championships - our first year at the event. Held at Fettes College, there were 18 schools and clubs involved.
Every single pupil beat their personal best, and held their own in some seriously tough competition. Congratulations to Eilidh (Form II), won the FII Girls event and Hannah (Form IV) placed 2nd in the FIV event.
As a school, Dollar Academy finished 5th out of 18. Miss Olivia Bell, who led the trip, said this about the competition:
"It was a brilliant experience for all our pupils. There was a true competitive environment and atmosphere built through our participation in the league which allowed pupils of all experience levels to come away from the championships with a positive experience. Great fun had by all and many new inspired athletes."

Congratulations to our six pupils who took part in the British Orienteering Championship, which was held at Hopeton House in November! Hugh (Junior 2) and Evan (Prep 5) finished 4th in the pairs, followed by Matilda and Annie (Junior 2), who placed 5th. Well done to Thomas and Sanjai, who placed 14th and 24th, respectively.
